Can someone change the image for this trait, I've uploaded the correct one and tried to change them over but for some reason it loves sticking to the old file. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cornishman (talk) 06:44, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

When you update a wiki page or resource like an image, the job scheduler creates a series of "jobs" to update all of the other pages in the wiki that use that resource. As there may be other jobs already in the queue, it can take a while for the changes to filter through. You can force a page to be updated by calling the page with the ?action=purge parameter e.g. https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Bleed_Them_Dry?action=purge. This technique is particularly useful when updating templates.

On a separate point, when you update a talk page and it doesn't appear on the Recent discussions list you need to update the Talk Pages Watchlist page. The talk page update you made should be listed on the left hand side for the appropriate list. If not then call the page again with ?action=purge to get it to update. Follow the instructions on the page to add the link to the right hand side of the list and it should now be visible in Recent discussions. Snarpel (talk) 14:22, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
Looks like the original icon did get updated. After uploading an updated icon, I have to refresh the File:Icon_Name-icon.png page to get the new one to display. Silly wiki :) -Laineth (talk) 14:29, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Forcing image updates

When you upload a new image it will simply "sit there." There are a set of housekeeping tasks which run nightly (as I recall) which will propagate the new image to the old pages.

You can (usually) force this by simply adding ?action=purge to the URL and clearing the page cache of your browser.

Personally, I find this to only work about 50% of the time. The "quick and easy" way to force the update is to "empty-edit" the page where the image is to be displayed -- enter edit mode and then save; no changes need be made.
