Tactical Information

In the early levels, Swift Strike will inevitably be used frequently by budding Champions, being one of only two skills that (reliably) generate fervour (apart from stances). However, once the Stalwart Blade trait is unlocked, Swift Strike is generally inferior to Wild Attack and (traited) Blade Wall for dual-wielding Champions, having a much higher power cost and dealing less damage (due to lack of damage-enhancing legacies and no off-hand attack). Unlike (traited) Blade-wall, it will generate a fervour pip even if it misses or if the enemy avoids it, but this is rarely an issue at higher levels. Blade-wall has two attacks, of which only one needs to land in order for a fervour pip to be gained. Thus, the chance of all attacks missing or being avoided is mathematically insignificant, in particular when fighting multiple targets.

For two-handed weapon users, the disparity in damage dealt between Swift Strike and Blade-wall is much smaller. The lower power consumption of two-handed combat (due to slower skill usage) makes the high power cost of Swift Strike slightly less significant, but frequent use will still deplete your power without outside support. However, the Reduced Power Cost for Swift Strike legacy will almost completely eliminate the difference in power cost between Swift Strike and Blade-wall at maximum rank. This makes frequent use of Swift Strike in a two-handed single-target DPS rotation perfectly reasonable, generating fervour slightly more reliably than Blade-wall (which of course has a higher chance to fail with only one attack) and dealing much better damage than for a dual-wielder.

It is a common misconception that Swift Strike is a Fast skill, due to it's quick animation. However, this is not the case. It is subject to Attack Duration just like the bulk of the Champion's melee skills, so the short animation is only really a benefit when immediately followed by an actual Fast skill (such as Merciful Strike).

  • At Level 105, the base bonus damage applied to the Main-hand component of this skill is approximately 37.5.
  • At Level 105, if wielding a Two-handed weapon in the Main-hand, the bonus damage is instead approximately 50.
  • Bonus damage does receive multipliers from Melee Offence and Skill Damage.
