"Taken by some madness, Golodir has ventured into the Rift. The air is thick with menace, and the stench of Thaurlach lingers..."

Background

Golodir has ventured deep within Nûrz Ghâshu, and his close friend Corunir is desperate to save him.

Objective 1

Corunir is waiting to speak with you outside Norbar within the depths of Nûrz Gâshu.

Corunir: 'We have done well to make it this far, <name>, but it seems that many of the evils that once dwelt here have retreated into the deepest depths of Nûrz Gâshu. It may be too much to hope for our passage to remain unnoticed.
'What can have driven Golodir to make this dangerous journey? Has he lost all hope for the future? He has suffered so much, more than any one Man should, and yet he persevered. Has he at last given in to despair?
'We must keep moving. Norbar is ahead. I fear that we may find there.'

Objective 2

  • Make your way to Norbar

Golodir is within Norbar. You must reach him as quickly as possible.

Corunir says, "Golodir is not himself, of this I am certain."
Corunir says, "He is the wisest Ranger I have known. What could have driven him to this place?"
Corunir says, "I cannot understand it. We must rescue him, even if it be from himself!"
An ancient fumerole, Torech Lach, has arisen and blocked your path!

Objective 3

An ancient fumerole, Torech Lach, has erupted and is blocking your path forward. It must be dealt with so you can proceed.

The denizens of Nûrz Gâshu are coming to protect the ancient Torech!
Corunir says, "Protect me while I attempt to find its weakness!"
Corunir calls out "I have found its weakness! Quickly, strike the Torech!"
Torech Lach has been destroyed. The path forward is open.
Corunir says, "Make haste! We must breach Norbar before it is too late!"

Objective 4

  • Make your way to Norbar

Golodir is within Norbar. You must reach him with haste.

An ancient fumerole, Torech Naur, has arisen and blocked your path!

Objective 5

An ancient fumerole, Torech Naur, has erupted and is blocking your path forward. It must be dealt with so you can proceed.

Corunir says, "The way to Norbar is open! To Golodir!"
Corunir says, "Come, we must enter Norbar and find Golodir!"

Objective 8

  • Talk to Corunir in Norbar

Corunir has ventured into Norbar. Follow him and speak with him about rescuing Golodir.

Corunir: 'Look there, beyond the great pit of fire: it is Golodir! We have found him!
'Let us make our way to the far side of Norbar, <name>. There we will speak with Golodir and bring him from these perilous depths!'

Objective 9

Corunir has ventured into Norbar. Follow him and speak with him about rescuing Golodir.

Corunir says, "This way! We will skirt the edge of the Coliseum. Beware the fire-streams!"
Golodir is across Norbar
Corunir says, "Golodir! Why have you come to this place? Speak, my friend!"
Golodir says, "Lorniel! Stand back from the door! I have come to save you!"
Golodir has been pacified for now. The source of his madness will not be pleased
Corunir says, "Something is not right! Come here...we must unravel this mystery, or I fear he will be lost to us!"

Objective 10

  • Talk to Corunir

Corunir has ventured into Norbar. Follow him and speak with him about rescuing Golodir.

Corunir: 'He speaks of his daughter as if she still lived, <name>...there is some great evil at work here.
'What has raised this madness in the mind of my mentor, to cruelly seize upon the grief within his heart? And what can be done about it?'

Objective 11

  • Listen to Corunir

Golodir has been driven mad by some force within Nûrz Gâshu and must be subdued.

Corunir says, "What is this feeling? Can you not sense it? Darkness and power!"

Objective 12

  • Listen to Corunir

Corunir is troubled by his friend's actions. Speak with him within Norbar

Corunir says, "This force has imposed its will upon Golodir! It poisons him against us!"
Erebún says, "The Ranger's pain serves as a gateway for Erebún's will. I will not permit you to close it!"

Objective 13

  • Defeat Erebún
  • Golodir must survive
  • Corunir must survive

Erebún, an ancient Rogmul, has imposed its will upon Golodir's mind. If he is defeated, perhaps Golodir's grief-borne madness will dissipate.

Corunir says, "It will take me a few moments to set the trap!"
Corunir says, "The trap is set! Quickly, draw him towards it!"
Erebún has been defeated and Golodir has been freed

Objective 14

  • Talk to Golodir

Erebún has been defeated, and Golodir's mind is clear once more. You should speak now with him.

Golodir: 'What has happened? Where...where am I?
'Golodir looks around in amazement and confusion.
'There was a ringing in my ears, as if I swam in deep water...but it is gone now. There was something else....'
Golodir says, "A shroud has lifted from my eyes...but which is the dream, and which is not?"
Golodir says, "Lorniel was...she was alive! It was not too late to save her!"
Golodir says, "Some part of me knew that Erebún had dominance over my mind..."
Golodir says, "...but even the small hope of seeing Lorniel again was hope enough. I did not fight him."
Golodir says, "I am ashamed. I am no Ranger."
Corunir says, "No, Golodir, you are wrong!"
Corunir says, "You are the bravest Ranger I know! Why else would Erebún seek to master your mind?"
Corunir says, "He sought to deprive us of you, and at a moment when we need you the most."
Corunir says, "The Dúnedain are gathering. We must ride to the aid of our lord Aragorn. We need you, Golodir."
Golodir says, "So the time has come at last."
Golodir says, "Perhaps it will do me some good to leave Angmar behind."
Golodir says, "These shadows have become too familiar. It will be best to leave them behind."
Corunir: 'I shudder to think of what awaited Golodir beyond that door, <name>. Erebún's dominance on the mind of my mentor was strong; what would Golodir have seen here had he remained under the Rogmul's power?
'I care not to guess. I know only that it would not have been Lorniel, and perhaps that would have been enough to destroy Golodir forever.
'Let us escape to the surface! Nûrz Gâshu is no place for us, or for our loved ones!'
