Bestowal Dialogue

'I understand a party of dwarves has made camp along the path that winds into the Misty Mountains. Perhaps they caught sight of our missing hobbit?'

 Twist: Reinforcements

Background

If Bilbo did not travel south, perhaps he journeyed north. His old adventuring friend Glóin may have seen him.

Objective 1

If Bilbo wandered north instead of south, Glóin may have seen his old adventuring companion.

I understand that Bilbo once adventured with the dwarf Glóin, who now camps north of Imladris. Has he seen Bilbo lately?

Glóin: 'What brings you to the mountains, <name>?'
You tell Glóin that no one in Rivendell has seen Bilbo Baggins today, and the Elves have started to worry that something may have happened to the old hobbit. Glóin looks at you with surprise.
'Bilbo? Missing?'

Objective 2

  • Walk with Glóin and discuss Bilbo's disappearance

If Bilbo wandered north instead of south, Glóin may have seen his old adventuring companion.

Glóin says, "Walk with me, <name>."
Glóin says, "I don't think Bilbo is actually missing."
Glóin says, "You see, I saw him this morning!"
Glóin says, "I don't remember the exact time, but I'd say it was about ten o'clock."
Glóin says, "We spoke about the weather and discussed some of adventures."
Glóin says, "Nothing out of the ordinary."
Glóin says, "Wait... did you hear that?"

Objective 3

  • Look into the distance and learn of the disturbance

Were those shouts in the distance? You and Glóin should look for the disturbance!

Glóin says, "My scouts return, and at a brisk pace!"

Objective 4

  • Learn what has caused the hasty return of Glóin's scouts

Scouts are returning to Glóin's camp with haste. What has happened?

Glóin says, "What do you report?"
Longbeard Warrior says, "A terrible snow-squall approaches!"
Glóin says, "We have weathered such storms before."
Glóin says, "Do you tell me Longbeards run fearful before a little snow?"
Longbeard Warrior says, "Nay. But this one drives a horde of snow-beasts before it!"
Glóin says, "A horde, you say? How many creatures did you see?"
Longbeard Warrior says, "Too many to count! And they come this way!"
Glóin says, "<name>."

Objective 5

  • Talk to Glóin and prepare for the onslaught

Glóin needs your help to defend his camp.

Glóin: 'Will you stand with us, <name>? My Longbeards are a worthy fight force, but this fell storm sounds unnatural, and we can use whatever help you might give to us! A horde of snow-beasts? Let us hope my scouts exaggerate!'

Objective 6

  • Fight alongside Glóin and his Longbeards
  • Glóin must not be defeated!

Glóin needs your help to defend his camp.

Longbeard Warrior says, "Here they come!"
Glóin says, "Three snow-beasts? You were afraid of three snow-beasts?"
Glóin says, "Oh."
Glóin says, "Look! The master of the snow-beasts! And that must be the spirit that drives him!"
Glóin says, "I think that is the last of them, for now!"
Glóin says, "Now, <name>, what were we talking about before we were interrupted by, well, by a horde?"

Objective 7

  • Talk to Glóin

Glóin is outside his camp in the Misty Mountains.

Glóin: 'Ah yes, Bilbo.
'As I was saying, we spoke this morning around ten o'clock. We spoke about this and that, and then he bid me farewell and left the camp. I thought at the time that he turned right and made his way back to Rivendell, but... now I am not certain of it. Are you sure none have seen him in the valley?
'Well, if he turned left instead, he would have climbed the slope, leaving Rivendell behind. And with that spirit of the storm loose and causing trouble, it could be Mr. Baggins lost his way...
'I don't like this, <name>. If only I had noticed which way he turned when he left! It seemed like such an ordinary visit, I thought nothing of it.
'I hope Bilbo has not gotten himself in real trouble!'

MISSION COMPLETE!

Glóin: 'I hope Bilbo has not gotten himself into real trouble!'
