Whispers from the Long Years
"I do not know what lies beyond that room of deep shadow. Remain alert!"

Background

You have descended a secret stairway into a hidden wing of the dungeons of Dol Guldur, where intense shadow covers its lost chambers.

Objective 1

  • Cross the bridge and explore the room beyond

Intense shadow blankets the area. What evils might this forgotten chamber have held before the fall of Sauron?

Shadowy impressions from the past unfold before your sight

Objective 2

  • Witness the shadowy impressions evil has left upon this chamber

A powerful presence has left its mark upon this chamber, and fell voices whisper of the past.

Lhaereth says, "Lord Sauron... I thought you dead, but you cling to life."
Lhaereth says, "Curse the Elves and Men that laid you so low!"
Lhaereth says, "I was overproud, and foolish. I abandoned you when you needed me the most."
Lhaereth says, "Yet had I not done so, I would surely have been slain, and could not help you now."
Lhaereth says, "I spied your servants from the height, and followed them here to you."
Lhaereth says, "They are helpless to heal your hurts."
Lhaereth says, "I could help you, Lord Sauron. I could minister to you in your weakness."
Lhaereth says, "I could make you strong again."
Sauron says, "...yes..."
Lhaereth says, "I require a boon. I ask for that which I asked before."
Lhaereth says, "You denied it then, but grant it to me now and you will have my service evermore."
Sauron says, "...one child only..."
Sauron says, "...after my victory is complete..."
Sauron says, "...and my rule stretches from the Sundering Sea..."
Sauron says, "...to the Uttermost East..."
Lhaereth says, "Yes, my lord."
Lhaereth says, "You will be strong again. I will see it done."

Objective 3

  • Examine objects within the Room of Voices

There may be more to discover within this Room of Voices.

Shadowy impressions from the past unfold before your sight

Objective 4

  • Witness the shadowy impressions evil has left upon this chamber

A powerful presence has left its mark upon this chamber, and fell voices whisper of the past.

Sauron says, "Karazgar, come forth."
Karazgar says, "My lord."
Sauron says, "Dragon-tamer, worm-breaker, loyal Gúrzyul..."
Sauron says, "Tell me of your plan."
Karazgar says, "Much enmity lies between the worms and the dwarves."
Karazgar says, "This might be inflamed to useful purpose."
Sauron says, "So you say, Karazgar. How might it be done?"
Karazgar says, "I am skilled beyond all others at the practice of stealth."
Karazgar says, "In secret I will slay a number of his kin."
Karazgar says, "I will leave their heads outside his lair, made to look like the work of dwarves."
Karazgar says, "In vengeance he will descend upon them, and they will trouble you no more."
Karazgar says, "Then he will be receptive to your commands, and will be a worthy ally."
Sauron says, "An ally? I seek no ally."
Karazgar says, "I spoke in error, Lord Sauron."
Karazgar says, "Smaug the Golden will be a worthy servant."
Sauron says, "Go then, and enact your plan."

Sauron says, "I did not summon you, Lhaereth."
Lhaereth says, "The Blade of Lebennin has declared himself Lord of the Blood-fort! But it is mine!"
Lhaereth says, "Seregost is my domain! You cannot give it to the Nazgûl!"
Lhaereth says, "Why have you done this?"
Sauron says, "The Nazgûl did not fail me. For their loyalty I gave to them the Nine Keeps."
Lhaereth says, "I did not fail you."
Sauron says, "The Plague did not do as you claimed!"
Sauron says, "Cured by the Westman's Weed!"
Sauron says, "A failure!"
Lhaereth says, "I will... I will make a new plague!"
Lhaereth says, "This time will be different! I promise this plague will be more effective!"
Sauron says, "I do not want your promises."
Sauron says, "Begone!"

Sigileth: 'Is it really you, <name>? I feared all my companions among the Hidden Guard were dead, but here you stand!
'I made a place of my own in these dungeons and levied terror upon their fell inhabitants in the name of my Lady. Let us return to my secret lodgings before we press through the Room of Voices, and I will collect the few belongings I left behind. I could not pass through its deep shadow on my own, but together I believe we can.
'It is good to see you again, <name>.'
