Bestowal Dialogue

"While I remain behind, my friends journey to Byre Tor to see what they can learn of Núrzum. Perhaps I worry unnecessarily, but what will I do if they are unable to return?"

Background

You have come to Byre Tor with your companions to see what you can learn of Núrzum's seeming interest in the city.

Objective 1

You have come with Horn Corudan, and Nona to the city of Byre Tor.

Horn: 'Byre Tor looks much as it did when last we were here. We have been fortunate to run into fewer Ores than before, but remain alert, for they still hold this city. I have seen nothing yet that might reveal Núrzum's interest in Byre Tor.'

Objective 2

Horn says, "This way, my friends! Look for any sign of what drew Núrzum to this city first."
Nona says, "There are more Orcs ahead. They make no effort to mask their presence."
Horn says, "Is everyone safe?"
Horn says, "<name>, I will go with Nona to search the other side of the town."
Corudan says, "I think I will go with Nona, and you will go with <name>, Horn."
Corudan says, "We need you to stay focused!"
Nona says, "I do not know what you mean, Corudan. Elf-talk remains a puzzle."
Horn says, "I suppose that leaves the two of us, <name>."
Horn says, "Let us search in the direction of the far gate for some sign of Núrzum's purpose."
Horn says, "Is it getting colder?"
Horn: 'The wind is picking up, <name>. Do you feel it?'
Horn looks about with concern.
'I think we may have found what we sought, my friend! Stay by me, and get ready to run if we must!'

Objective 3

  • Stay close to Horn and survive your encounter with Núrzum
Núrzum says, "Aldstan! I have come for you!"
Horn says, "Aldstan? The giant seeks a man? For what purpose?"
Núrzum says, "Aldstan! You cannot hide from me!"
Horn says, "By the House of Eorl!"
Horn says, "This way, <name>, quickly and quietly."

Objective 4

Horn is hiding behind a barricade in Byre Tor, as Núrzum encroaches upon his position.

Horn: 'It is one thing to hear of Núrzum's great size and strength, but it is entirely different to see it for yourself! How can we hope to fight such a creature?
'Woe be to Aldstan, if Núrzum finds him.'

Objective 5

  • Stay close to Horn and survive your encounter with Núrzum
Horn says, "Look!"
Núrzum says, "Aldstan! I will destroy your city!"
Horn says, "Still he comes! This way, <name>, and hurry!"

Objective 6

Horn has retreated to the stables of Byre Tor, while Núrzum continues his destructive march through the city.

Horn: 'We cannot keep like this for long, <name>. Núrzum may not be looking for us, but if he happens upon the two of us while searching for Aldstan, he will not show mercy. That much I know for certain!
'And what if he happens upon Nona and Corudan? We cannot stay here. We have to find them and leave the city.'

Objective 7

Horn says, "I cannot look away. Such ferocity!"
Horn says, "We must not tarry. <name>, this way!"
Horn says, "Corudan! Where is Nona?"

Objective 8

You and Horn have found Corudan in Byre Tor, but the Elf and the Dunlending were separated by attacking Orcs and now Nona is missing.

Corudan: 'Nona and I were driven apart by attacking Orcs, and I have not seen her since. She must still be in the city. We will find her again! That great shaking can only be Núrzum! We must not let h see us. If we do not dispose of these Orcs quickly he is sure to find us!'

Objective 9

Corudan became separated from Nona when Orcs attacked, and now she is by herself somewhere in Byre Tor, with Núrzum stalking through the streets.

Corudan says, "Defeat these Orcs quickly! If Núrzum sees us all is lost!"
Corudan says, "Well-fought, my friends! Now let us hurry!"
Núrzum says, "You are a coward, Aldstan! Come face me!"
Horn says, "Look! It is Nona! But she is right in Núrzum's path!"

Objective 10

  • Stay close to Horn and survive your encounter with Núrzum

Horn is by the side of a building in Byre Tor. He is desperate to think of some way to keep Núrzum from finding Nona.

Horn says, "We have to do something!"

Objective 11

Horn: 'We cannot do anything from here, <name>. Perhaps if we could get to the other side of the courtyard...'
Horn's eyes are alight with the desperation of fear.
'We might be able to run behind Núrzum while his back is turned! From the far side of the courtyard we can get his attention, and draw ham away from Nona!'

Objective 12

  • Follow Horn as closely as you can!

Horn is by the side of a building in Byre Tor. He is desperate to think of some way to keep Núrzum from finding Nona.

Horn says, "Follow me closely, friends! Hurry!"
Corudan says, "Horn!"
Horn says, "Does our luck hold?"

Objective 13

  • Talk to Horn in Byre Tor

Horn is by the stables in Byre Tor, trying to come up with a way to keep Núrzum from finding Nona.

Horn: 'We made it! Now we need to come up with some way to attract Núrzum's attention before he sees Nona...'

Objective 14

  • Stay close to Horn and survive your encounter with Núrzum

Nona is in danger, but you can do nothing without putting the rest of you at risk! You must stay close to Horn and Corudan.

Horn, says, "Oh no... he has seen something!"
Núrzum, says, "What is this? A tiny warrior?"
Horn says, "Nona!"
Corudan says, "Horn! <name>! We must flee! Follow me!"
Horn says, "Is there nothing we can do? I have to go back! This is not right!"

Objective 15

  • Reassure Horn that all will be well

You have escaped the centre of Byre Tor, but Nona is still in danger! Horn is at a loss, and does not know what he can do to help her.

Horn: 'I do not know what to do, <name>! We cannot leave her! I refuse to leave Byre Tor without Nona!'

Objective 16

  • Wait with Horn until he decides to leave
Corudan says,"Horn! <name>! We must flee! Follow me!"
Horn says, "Is there nothing we can do? I have to go back! This is not right!"
Horn says, "The two of you may leave if you must. But I am going back for her!"
Horn says, "Even if it means my life!"
Nona says, "Have we been so long apart that you have forgotten?"
Horn says, "Nona!"
Nona says, "It will take more than that creature to best Nona of the Uch-lûth!"
Nona says, "...but I am sorry I worried you."

Objective 17

Nona has given Núrzum the slip, much to your relief at that of your companions... especially Horn.

Nona: 'It was not difficult to escape the giant, <name>. He is big and I am small. He is slow and I am fast. He is an unnatural thing, given to evil, and I am the sister of Wadu, the daughter of Suvulch. He is alone and I have friends who care for me.
'This Núrzum was outmatched before he even came to Byre Tor today. I was never frightened of him.
'Still, I am glad we are safe. We should leave this place before he realizes we have gone. And <name>, thank you for watching out for Horn, today and for the last several days. It eased the worry of my heart to know you were by his side.'

Objective 18

Horn is in Byre Tor, showing heavy relief after Nona's return.

Horn: 'What a relief it is to see Nona safe again! Núrzum will answer to me for threatening her!
'Another day, perhaps. Now we should return to Nona's cave and puzzle over the meaning of why Núrzum seeks this man Aldstan.'
