Bestowal dialogue

Captain-General Daerdan: 'A summons arrived here by raven this morning, <name>, calling you to the House of Elrond, far to the east. I do not know why Elrond Halfelven requests the presence of a halfling, but it must be for some errand of importance if he troubles to send ravens on the wing here to Echad Garthadir.

'It is most peculiar, <name>. Have your people had dealings with Elrond Halfelven before this? In any event, you will find the House of Elrond far to the east, in the hidden vale of Rivendell, beyond the Trollshaws.'

Barbethnir: 'Master Elrond wishes to speak with you, <name>. Halflings truly have come to the notice of the Wise and the Great, have they not?

'Go inside and speak with Master Elrond in his library. I wonder on what business you have been summoned?'

Fimreg: '<name>, may I have a word with you? Master Elrond requests your presence in Rivendell on a matter of some urgency. His messenger did not reveal the reason for this summons, but said only that Elrond has need now of you. It is most odd for a halfling to receive such a summons!

'Travel along the eastern road beyond the Trollshaws to the hidden vale of Rivendell and speak with Elrond in his house.'

Nogmeldir: '<name>, I have a message for you: Master Elrond requests your presence in Rivendell on a matter of some urgency. His messenger did not reveal the reason for this summons. It is most odd for a halfling to be called in this way, and I cannot fathom the reason for it.

'Descend from the mountains and return to the vale of Rivendell that you might speak with Elrond in his house.'

Background

Hobbits generally stay in the Shire, never wandering far from their homes, but occasionally there are...exceptions.

Objective 1

Elrond waits to speak with you in the library of his house in Rivendell.

Elrond Halfelven has summoned you to speak with him on some urgent matter.

Captain-General Daerdan: 'Now halflings have been called to the counsels of the Elves. What could possibly be next? The salamanders of Lake Evendim?
'Ah, I mean no offence. Seek out Elrond Halfelven at his house in Rivendell, far to the east, for he has summoned you. Perhaps he will summon a Man next, for it is strength of arms he will surely need in these dark times.'
Barbethnir: 'I wonder what business Elrond wishes to speak with you about? You are a worthy halfling, do not mistake my meaning, but I am curious about what matter calls you to his attention.
'You will find him inside his library.'
Fimreg: 'You must make the journey to Rivendell, far to the east beyond the Trollshaws, to speak with Master Elrond. What causes him to summon a halfling, I wonder?'
Nogmeldir: 'Return to the Vale of Imladris and speak with Elrond inside his library. I wonder on what business he wishes to see a halfling, even one so unusual as yourself!'
Elrond: 'Welcome, <name>. I am pleased to see you well. This is a safe journey for no one, not even doughty Men or dwarves or Elves, and for a halfling to come so far is commendable.
'A small company will soon be setting forth on a mission of great secrecy to combat the lengthening shadow of Evil that spreads across the land; I am loath to speak in detail of their errand, but know that it will do great hurt to the Enemies of this Age if they succeed.
'Several of your people have chosen to be a part of this company; even now they prepare to depart. I ask that you aid these halflings with their preparations: you are of their kind and may lend them courage for the task ahead. You will find them in a room on the first floor of my house: the lodgings of Bilbo Baggins. Aid them as you can, for much depends upon their courage.'

Objective 2

Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, and Peregrin Took can be found in Bilbo's room on the first floor of Elrond's house.

Elrond has asked that you aid Frodo, Sam, and Pippin with their preparations. As you are of their kind, you may be able to lend them courage for the dangerous secret journey that awaits them.

Elrond: 'You will find the hobbits in the room I gave to Bilbo on the first floor of this house. Aid them with their preparations, that they may have courage for the dangerous road that awaits them.'

Objective 3

  • Talk to Elrond

Elrond is in the library of his house in Rivendell.

You have aided the hobbits with their preparations and should now return to Elrond.

Elrond: 'Thank you for helping the halflings with their preparations, <name>. Gandalf says of your people that they have unseen reserves of strength and are stout of heart, and I hope it is true.
'Much depends on the success of the journey they will undertake.'
