Background

Several people in Edoras seem very melancholy.

NOTE: Edoras quests must be completed before the Evacuation of Edoras takes place.

Objective 1

  • Speak with melancholic townspeople (0/5)

Melancholy people can be found in and near the market square in northern Edoras.

You should search the town for melancholy people and find out what is bothering them.

Melancholic Townsperson: 'Alas for our fate! What an unhappy time! Why must this happen now, in my lifetime?
'Fair Edoras, Fair Edoras,
City of sorrow,
How far you have fallen since Brego and Eorl.'
The man recites some sad lines of a poem or song
Melancholic Townsperson: 'The end will come for us, be it at Dunharrow or here....
'Tis the War, tis the War,
The tide rising high,
Come to drown the last Riders in fire and blood.'
The woman recites the disturbing lines of a poem in her desolation
Melancholic Townsperson: 'How can we hope to win this war? Think upon the lines:
'Fair Meduseld, Fair Meduseld,
Seats the withered king,
There the tongue of the worm gives command, they say.
'It is so true. Leaderless we shall crumble.'
This woman explains her melancholy with poetry
Melancholic Townsperson: 'We run to Dunharrow, but Rohan will burn nonetheless. The fires of the Orcs will chase us there, after it comes here. Better we should die in our glorious home....
'Lovely Rohan, Dearest Rohan,
Plains of green and gold,
How long not 'til the grasses burn black and charred?'
The man recites sad lines to drive home his point
Melancholic Townsperson: 'I know, I know. I should be packing for the journey. But I cannot bring myself to do it.
'Fair Edoras, Great Edoras,
Send us not from home.
Whatever shall be left upon our return?'
The man cites a song or poem to drive home his point

Objective 2

The town Minstrel seems to be sharing sad lines of poetry and song with the townsfolk, making them inconsolable. He can likely be found at the tavern of Edoras.

You should speak with the Minstrel of Edoras.

Atwald: 'Would you like to hear a song for the road, traveller? Here is the local favourite right now:
'Fair Edoras, Fair Edoras,
City of sorrow,
How far you have fallen since Brego and Eorl.
'Fair Meduseld, Fair Meduseld,
Seats the withered king,
There the tongue of the worm gives command, they say....'
