Walkthrough & Notes

Snár stands beside Dithalion but he does not show any quest ring or anything else. Interact with Snár who is enabled for this quest, to allow for reforging of the weapon. On the "Legendary Item Forge" panel, click "Reforge Item". All references to Wafi (in Thorin's Hall), and to "...demonstrat[ing] its development" are leftovers from the Legendary Item system prior to Update 30.3, wherein this quest line sent characters of different races to different quest-givers, and it was necessary to "level" a legendary item as a (now obsolete) quest objective. Applying a tracery to the legendary item is optional, and due consideration should be given as to whether to do so at this time. In particular for higher-level characters, it may be better to simply disenchant (using Flame of Ancalamír) the traceries received from this quest-line and barter for more level-appropriate ones, after the quest line is finished. If desired, traceries can be added using a right-click of the tracery, and choosing the legendary weapon as the target. To use the enhancement runes after placing traceries, it will be necessary to use the Socket Control Panel interface to do so, or perform a Shift+double-click on the legendary item. Since this chapter requires that the reforge occur while this quest is active; in the unfortunate event that the legendary weapon has been reforged before this chapter – which is possible using sources of legendary service other than Snár – most players in this situation will be unable to complete the quest objective, unless and until the character's level rises to the next reforge opportunity (level 56, in the typical case). EXCEPTION: characters which have been "Valar'ed" may already have the Seeker of Deep Places title, which will allow them to barter for a replacement, ready-to-reforge legendary item, so that they can advance this quest without needing to gain more character levels. Destroying the legendary item prior to this chapter, will – the above "Valar" exception notwithstanding – make it impossible to complete it, and will most probably require the intervention of Support to resolve. (Accidental destruction is unlikely, due to the safeguard which requires an exact typing of the legendary item's name, as a confirmation step).

Quest Text

Bestowal dialogue 'This ancient weapon can be reforged at the hands of a Forge-master allowing its power to increase to match the skill of its wielder. 'Once reforged, it may possess the strength to face the creature that lurks within the Black Pool, <name>. You should bring it to the Forge-master for reforging, and mayhap your newly-refurbished blade will at last best the flesh of the cruel Watcher. 'Take this weapon to Snár and he shall reforge it anew, and then perhaps we shall see its true potential.' - As your character level increases, your weapon may be brought to a Forge-master to be reforged. - Reforging your weapon increases its power and may unlock additional tracery slots. Background Diathalon wishes to see your weapon reforged anew. Objective 1 Bring the weapon to Snár the Forge-master to be reforged Snár the Forge-master can be found by the Forges of Rivendell. Your weapon possesses hidden potential that can be unlocked by reforging at a Forge-master. This process increases the weapon's damage and reveals a weapon's potential. Complete the forging process with Snár The Forge-master has reforged the weapon, revealing its hidden heraldry. Objective 2 Talk to Dithalion Wafi is in the Forging Hall of Thorin's Hall in Ered Luin, and Dithalion is by the Forges of Rivendell. Now that you have reforged the weapon, you should return to either Wafi or Dithalion to demonstrate its development. Dithalion: 'That has done it, <name>! The reforging of your weapon has revealed its potential to bear its Heraldry! I have gifted you such a heraldry, which you may now place upon your weapon. 'You must return to Hollin at once and show Ráthwald, the dwarf at the crumbling arch near Echad Dúnann, that you wield a great weapon. Surely it will give the dwarves of his company newfound hope. 'Go at once, friend! I deem that weapon has come forth from the very fibres of legend for this purpose.' Objective 3 Talk to Ráthwald Ráthwald is at the crumbling arch near the camp of Echad Dúnann in Eregion. Your weapon has become powerful indeed, perhaps powerful enough to use in battle with the Watcher before the Doors of Durin. Dithalion: 'Go to the camp of Echad Dúnann in Eregion at once and speak to Ráthwald. He must see the weapon you now wield and the power that it may have against the creature of the Black Pool!' Ráthwald: 'Welcome back, <name>. Did that weapon of the Elder Days prove worthwhile, or was it a fruitless chase?' Ráthwald's eyes widen in surprise. 'This weapon has become even more powerful in your hands, <name>! Surely now we have the strength to stand against the horror in that fetid pool!'
