Walkthrough & Notes

- This quest is the main introduction to the Legendary Item system, for new players. Pay particular attention to the instructional text in red.
- The "...the more servants of evil..." verbiage should be taken with a grain of salt, since legendary item-level advances according to Character Level, which may only partly benefit from mob kills, or, under some circumstances, not at all.
- Despite Dithalion's dialogue and the quest text, applying a tracery to the legendary item is not necessary to advance the quest objective. In particular, for higher-level characters, it may be better to simply disenchant (using Flame of Ancalamír) the traceries you receive from this quest line and barter for more level-appropriate ones, after the quest line is finished.
- In addition to the warning text about premature reforging of the legendary weapon, one should also not destroy it. Either outcome will prevent normal quest completion of Chapter 11: Forged Anew. In this case, options include
- Open a ticket with Support
- Arrange for a summon (rally horn, Captain summon) into the Archive of Traceries, and then barter for a new legendary item, to reforge for Forged Anew. Barter will require sufficient quantity of the appropriate currency, either acquired via a higher-level character on the same server and account, or via disenchanting certain items in the game. See Flame of Ancalamir -- the item used for disenchanting -- or the page for Ancient Script, the barter currency, for its various sources.
- In the case of premature reforging, wait until the next level-based reforge opportunity, as described in the table at Legendary Items. Typically, for characters running this quest line in the 45-55 range, the next reforge opportunity will be level 56.

Bestowal dialogue
'Weapons of this make may have a long and storied history, <name>. Its tale grows ever with the felling of evil foes -- the more servants of evil this weapon cuts down, the more deadly it becomes.
'Only a skilful few can read the tale of a weapon from its craftsmanship. I refer you to one who can further aid you: the Elf Dithalion by the forges in Rivendell. He is wise and learned in many things, including the study of ancient weapons.
'If Dithalion cannot help you, he will surely know another who can descry the lineage and powers in a weapon of this artistry.'
Background
You have received a weapon from the Elder Days that the dwarves discovered in a hidden cache, and you must now delve for its secrets.
Objective 1
Dithalion is by the forges in Rivendell.
Do not reforge your new weapon until you are instructed to do so by Dithalion
Hundi bid you to show your new weapon to Dithalion, an Elf of Rivendell who will be able to help you make use of your weapon.
- Hundi: 'Dithalion will be by the forges in Rivendell, <name>. It is a long way, but he may be able to glean some knowledge from your new weapon that will be of use to us.'
- Dithalion: 'You have come a long way to be here, <name>. What business could bring a valiant <class> such as yourself here to the Forges of Rivendell?'
- Dithalion looks at the weapon and grows still, his eyes wide in wonderment.
- 'This is a relic of the Elder Days, my friend! Such a weapon has an unmatched potential to grow in power, its storied legend growing along with your own!'
- - Legendary Items can be enhanced in a number of ways as you adventure in Middle-earth.
- - Their base stats can increase along with yours as you level.
- - They can be slotted with a wide assortment of traceries.
- - These traceries can be further enhanced by runes.
Objective 2
- Talk to Dithalion by the forges in Rivendell
Dithalion is at the Forges of Rivendell.
- Dithalion: 'I see that you have been given some traceries. You should apply one of them to your weapon to further customize its abilities! Once you have done so, speak to me again.'
- - There are a variety of traceries that can be added to your legendary item.
- - Among them are Heraldries, Words of Power, Words of Mastery, and Words of Craft.
- - They are slotted onto your items in much the same way as Essences.
Objective 3
- Talk to Dithalion by the forges in Rivendell
Dithalion is at the Forges of Rivendell.
You have inscribed a tracery into your weapon and should now speak with Dithalion.
- Dithalion: 'A good choice, <name>! Inscribing traceries onto your weapon will enhance your skills, and will often help turn the tide of battle.
- 'This weapon is still not strong enough to defeat the Watcher in the Water, friend <class>, but it might become so. I will tell you how this may come to pass.'
