Walkthrough & Notes

There are a number of wandering half-orcs and beasts in the immediate vicinity of Frostulf, and it may not be practical to clear them first, due to high respawn rates. So keep an eye for red dots on the radar, during the fight! Frostulf will despawn if you run far enough away from him. The horn remains, so he can be re-summoned for another attempt. Frostulf counts towards the Cotfast: Foes of the Free People objective. While the zone map shows several areas for Wildwood brigand boot drops, in fact most of the areas, including Cotfast, are exclusively Orcs and/or Half-orcs, which do not drop the quest items. Oddly, Frostulf does not drop the item either. The highest concentration of brigands is the "sideways Z" shape extending to the East of Trader's Wharf. The eastern part of the shape contains Hardened Tomb-robbers, while the western part (closer to the wharf) contains Wildwood Assailants, both of which creature types drop the quest items. Additionally, there is a small concentration at The Old Bluff-house, and the unique creature Hull the Wolf-hearted also drops the item.

Bestowal dialogue A true Brawler knows the importance of a strong defence! Value might and vitality, but value too your appearance while you fight, for anything can be turned to your advantage mid-brawl: even the flashing glint of jewelry might distract your foe at an inopportune moment! 'I can fashion you suitable jewelry for this purpose, but I will need a number of materials from you: not only for the crafting, but also to prove that you are deserving of it! It is a tradition among Brawlers, my friend, and I would not wish to break it! It is our foes who will break, after all! 'A Dourhand brigand named Frostulf Splitknuckle fancies himself a Brawler, and he has issued an open challenge to folk in the Wildwood: he claims he will defeat any opponent in single combat, and without spilling a drop of his beer! Find him outside the western gate of Cotfast and answer his challenge. Bring me his tankard and prove you are a worthy Brawler, <name>. 'So too will I require the boots of brigands here in the Wildwood. Only the leather of such boots will serve, so bring them to me without complaint.' Background Hunward at Trader's Wharf in the Wildwood has agreed to fashion you some armour in which to brawl. Objective 1 Collect Frostulf's tankard Collect Wildwood brigand boots (0/10) Hunward has asked you to bring him Wildwood brigand boots and Frostulf's tankard. Frostulf Splitknuckle can be challenged outside the western gate of Cotfast in the Wildwood. Frostulf Splitknuckle says, "Who challenges me to a brawl? Who would dare? Missing Dialogue Objective 2 Deliver the first batch of materials to Hunward at Trader's Wharf Hunward is at Trader's Wharf in the Wildwood. Hunward: 'Nice work, <name>! You showed Frostulf a thing or two, I expect! But these next materials will be more difficult to obtain, for you will need to go further afield for them. 'I will need mandibles from spiders such as those found in Angmar and other dangerous places. I will also need bubbling droplets from the brimstone-leeches which creep through the swamp of Malenhad in Angmar. Objective 3 Collect mottled spider mandibles (0/20) Collect bubbling droplets (0/15) Spiders can found in Angmar and other dangerous places. Brimstone-leeches can be found in Malenhad in Angmar. Hunward asked you to bring him mottled spider-mandibles and bubbling droplets. Objective 4 Deliver the second batch of materials to Hunward at Trader's Wharf Hunward is at Trader's Wharf in the Wildwood. Hunward: 'You did! These materials are disgusting, but they are necessary. The droplets will season the leather of the boots you brought me, and the toughened strips will provide excellent defence. But you are not finished yet, and this next task will prove you are a Brawler most worthy! 'I require a horn from the Gorthog Tarlûg, who resides in Carn Dùm. I also need a badge of rank from the goblins of Urugarth. Prove that you can stand against opponents both large and small, and fear neither! Objective 6 Deliver the last batch of materials to Hunward at Trader's Wharf Hunward is at Trader's Wharf in the Wildwood. May it protect you no matter the number or ferocity of the opponents you face! 'Why did I need you to gather such assorted materials? Ah, I am making myself a new pair of boots.
