Walkthrough & Notes

This quest is part of the Tracking an Old Goat deed. You must do all of Andreg's quests to complete this deed.

IMPORTANT: This quest is a "wrapper quest"; in other words, beginning the quest A Dark and Lonely Quest will enable you to receive the other six quests for the Tracking an Old Goat deed.

If you accidentally open the quest dialog box, you can close that text window by using X in the upper right corner, ****DO NOT click on Continue!!!!***

If you click the Continue button, Andreg will no longer offer the other quests.

DO NOT turn in this quest until you have OBTAINED and COMPLETED all SIX embedded quests.

The Bird-whistle that Amlan gives you to call Andreg requires an inventory slot.
You must call Andreg to your side; once he arrives he will offer you quests.
Andreg offers quests based on your location along the path from Amlan to Saeradan. Some of the quest activation areas are small and difficult to locate. See the individual quest walkthroughs for precise locations.
Andreg may need to be out of combat in the activation area for a few moments before he will offer a quest.
If you lose Andreg, because he was defeated, or because you left the area in which he roams, you can get him back by returning to the general area of the path between Amlan and Saeradan, and using the Bird-whistle.

If you complete the wrapper quest but still have inner quests left, go find Amlan at his new location, 83.1S 14.6W and pick this wrapper quest up again.

Bestowal dialogue

'When we first came to this place, we stumbled upon a party of Rohirrim scouts, led by Théodred, the king's son. They were attempting to creep behind the Dunlending lines, but unfortunately for them, the Horse-lords are not the most cautious warriors.

'We helped them to sneak past their enemies and establish a camp here in the Gravenwood. Saeradan remained with them, believing it to our mutual benefit to aid them. Their mission here might help us to regain Gwyllion's trail.

'You should head east at once to the Rohirrim's scout-camp and join with Saeradan. Take this whistle...it is made to sound like the call of a bird not found here. If you sound it, Andreg will come to take you to Saeradan.'

Background

The Rangers Saeradan, Amlan, and Andreg have tracked Gwyllion, the Old Woman of the Mountain, from the Windfells in Enedwaith to the Gravenwood of Dunland.

Objective 1

Aid Andreg with Eyes in the Forest

Amlan told you to summon Andreg and accompany him to the Rohirrim scout-camp to meet with Saeradan.

If you become separated from Andreg, you may summon him using the bird-whistle Amlan gave you.

Objective 2

Talk to Andreg

Andreg has accompanied you for some distance. Now the time has come to part ways.

You should speak with Andreg.

Advancing this quest will no longer allow you to summon Andreg and will cancel any quests bestowed by him that are currently underway.

Andreg: 'You have been of great aid to me upon this road, <name>. I must turn aside now and scout the wods tothe south and the east.

'If you turn north, you will eventually come upon the Rohirrim scout-camp, where Saeradan awaits you.

'Farewell, <name>. May we meet again!'

Objective 3

Talk to Saeradan at the Rohirrim scout-camp

Saeradan is at the Rohirrim scout-camp.

Andreg told you to continue on to the Rohirrim scout-camp and let Saeradan know that he is scouting the wood to the south and east.

Saeradan: '<name>! It is good that you have come, though I must say I did not doubt much that that our paths would cross once more.

'There is great evil afoot, and we could use your aid!'
