Your eye is drawn west across the map, beyond the borders of Rohan, and comes to rest upon the pastoral quiet of the Shire. You wonder what has become of Halros since he elected to remain behind and watch the borders of that land.
Background
As you study the contours of Gléowine's map, your mind is drawn to wonder what has befallen Halros in the weeks since he elected to remain behind, in the Shire.
You have agreed to walk with Bounder Primstone on his rounds to Oatbarton today.
Objective 1
- Study Gléowine's map and complete 'Interlude: Halros's Watch'
Your mind travels far as you study the map, musing on the fate of Halros and the Shire.
Clicking on the map again launches a session play as Halros.
- "Meanwhile, in the Shire, Halros of the Dúnedain helps watch the borders of that land and hopes his brethren in the south are faring well on their journey."
Objective 2
- Bounder Primstone is in the Greenfields, waiting for you to walk with him to Oatbarton.
- Bounder Primstone: 'Good afternoon to you, Halros! It is good to see you again. I do enjoy the company. The walk to Oatbarton is quite a long one, but it goes more quickly with company.
- 'I am always pleased when you join me for walking my rounds. I have not met very many of the Big Folk, but of those few you are as pleasant and kind a fellow as I could hope to meet. You are quite all right in my book, Halros.
- 'You will forgive me, as you usually do, if I share some of the news of the day? That is a relief. There is so much going on in the Shire, and keeping it all straight helps to clean the cobwebs out of my head. Relaying some of it to you serves as mental exercise of the highest order!'
Objective 3
- Help Bounder Primstone walk to Oatbarton as part of his rounds
- Bounder Primstone is in the Greenfields, waiting for you to walk with him to Oatbarton.
- Bounder Primstone says, Are you ready, Halros? The walk to Oatbarton is a long one, and the day is getting on already.
- Bounder Primstone says, There is nothing quite like a good afternoon of exercise.
- Bounder Primstone says, Things have been pretty quiet for the last few days.
- Bounder Primstone says, Well, there was that business with the spoiled pies. Again.
- Bounder Primstone says, You will keep this to yourself, right, Halros?
- Bounder Primstone says, But I think perhaps Holly Hornblower should give up on the pie-making business.
- Bounder Primstone says, For every good pastry she bakes, I swear, she lets six spoiled pies out into the wild.
- Bounder Primstone says, Ivo keeps buying them, though. I think perhaps he's just sweet on her.
- Bounder Primstone says, Ha! Did you get that one, Halros?
- Bounder Primstone says, Sweet! Because she is a baker, and bakes pies.
- Bounder Primstone says, Just a little hobbit humour for you.
Objective 4
- Talk to Bounder Primstone
It is getting late, and you are not yet at Oatbarton. Bounder Primstone wants to take a short rest.
- Bounder Primstone: 'Oh my, where has the time gone? Already the sun is beginning to set. Let us take a short rest and then we will walk the rest of the way to Oatbarton. What do you say, Halros?'

- Take a short rest with Bounder Primstone before continuing on to Oatbarton
It is getting late, and you are not yet at Oatbarton. Bounder Primstone wants to take a short rest.
- Bounder Primstone says, Let us sit over here, off the road. Just for a moment.
- Bounder Primstone says, Ah, that is just what my feet needed.
- Bounder Primstone says, I think I have some sandwiches here. Let me unpack them.
- Bounder Primstone says, Wait... did you hear that?
Objective 5
- Talk to Bounder Primstone
You have walked with Bounder Primstone about halfway to Oatbarton, but you have heard the sound of wolves on the wind.
- Bounder Primstone: 'Is that the sound of wolves? Sometimes they come down into the Shire, but it does not happen very often. If they do come upon us, you can stand behind me, Halros. Wolves can be frightening, but I am a Bounder and have been trained to deal with the creatures.
- 'I am sorry, but the sandwiches will have to wait.'
Objective 6
- Defend Bounder Primstone from his foes
You have walked with Bounder Primstone about halfway to Oatbarton, but you have heard the sound of wolves on the wind.
- Bounder Primstone says, Keep your eyes open, Halros.
- Bounder Primstone says, No time for a rest now, Halros! We need to hurry to Oatbarton!
- Bounder Primstone says, The sun has set. We are almost to Oatbarton!
- Bounder Primstone says, We made it, Halros!
Objective 7
- Talk to Bounder Primstone outside Oatbarton
You have arrived at the outskirts of Oatbarton with Bounder Primstone.
- Bounder Primstone: 'Look up ahead. Is that one of the Big Folk? You are an exception, Halros. Usually they do not trouble to come into the Shire, and we are pleased to not be troubled by them!
- 'I suppose we should see what he wants, Halros.'
Objective 8
- Accompany Bounder Primstone and learn why the Man has come to the Shire
You have arrived at the outskirts of Oatbarton with Bounder Primstone.
- Bounder Primstone says, Good evening, stranger. What brings you to Oatbarton?
- Bill Ferny says, I got nothing to say to you. I can be here if I like.
- Bill Ferny says, Who's going to make me move? You?
- Bounder Primstone says, That's right.
- Bill Ferny says, Ha! That's rich!
Objective 9
Bill Ferny is on the outskirts of Oatbarton, and if you know him, the Man is up to no good.
- Bill Ferny: 'You don't scare me, Ranger. I've seen plenty of your type 'round Bree-way, and it seems to me you bleed just like everybody else. Maybe easier.'
- Ferny laughs an unpleasant laugh.
- 'I'm meeting a friend here, but I can see you're just dying to stick your nose into my business, so I'll move along. I'll be sure to tell my friend who it was what caused this inconvenience. You can count on that, Ranger.'
Objective 10
- Talk to Bounder Primstone outside Oatbarton
Bounder Primstone is outside Oatbarton.
- Bounder Primstone: 'You have my thanks for sending him away, Halros. I'm glad you were here. He was up to no good, you mark my words.
- 'We fought some wolves tonight, but I think maybe not every wolf we encountered wore fur. That one's teeth might prove sharpest yet.
- 'We should see about finding a place to stay for tonight, before we head back to the Greenfields on the morrow. Let us find an accomodating burrow, with a laden table full of supper, if we can!'

Background
As you study the contours of Gléowine's map, your mind is drawn to wonder what has befallen the Grey Company in the time since you left them.
Prestadír has woken you for your turn at watch. You have five hours to spend until the dawn.
Objective 1
- Study Gléowine's map and complete 'Interlude: Halros’s Watch'
Your mind travels far as you study the map, musing on the fate of Halros and the Grey Company.

Objective 2
- Prestadír has woken you for your turn at watch.
Prestadír:
- 'I am sorry to wake you, Haros, but it is time for you watch to begin. These last few hours have been quiet, and it was a struggle at times to keep my eyes open. I will be glad of the sleep.
- There is a good place to watch among the trees just to the west. I will show you.'
Objective 3
- Follow Prestadír to the good watching-spot
Prestadír has woken you for your turn at watch.
- Prestadír says, This way.
- Prestadír says, Right here, Halros, among these trees.
- Prestadír says, Good luck, Halros. I will see you in the morning.
- For the first hour of your watch all is quiet.
- In the second hour of your watch your thoughts meander.
- In the third hour of your watch you hope the Shire is safe.
- In the fourth hour of your watch... what is that? Movement?
Objective 4
- Investigate your uneasy feeling
Did you see something move in the darkness?
- That was a Falcon Clan scout! The camp is about to be attacked!
Objective 4
- Wake up your brethren before the Falcon Clan attacks!
You need to wake up your comrades before the attack!
- Grey Company Ranger says, Halros? What has happened?
- Grey Company Ranger says, What is going on?
- Grey Company Ranger says, I am ready!
- Halbarad says, Good eye, Halros. We can prepare before our foes are upon us!
Objective 5
- Talk to Halbarad and prepare for the Falcon Clan attack
Halbarad has instructions for you, and you should receive them quickly! The Falcon Clan attack is imminent!
Halbarad:
- 'I thought this would happen one of these nights. We may not have much time before the Falcon Clan strikes!
- 'You three slip down the hill to the side and see if you can approach our attackers from behind.
- 'Halros! Prestadír! Come with me, and we will see if they can listen to reason.'
Objective 6
- Fight alongside Halbarad and Prestadír
Halbarad has instructions for you, and you should receive them quickly! The Falcon Clan attack is imminent!
- Halbarad says, You three find out the number of our foes.
- Halbarad says, Show yourselves, Falcons! Even a sleeping Dúnadan cannot be
- Mair says, So it would seem.
- Mair says, When you were imprisoned in the caves, my father showed you mercy.
- Mair says, I will not make the same mistake! Kill them, my warriors!
- Mair says, I will not return to my father in disgrace!
- Mair says, Better to die here than return in failure!
- Halbarad says, It is over. Farewell, Mair.
- Halbarad says, Your father will join you soon.
Objective 7
Halbarad is waiting to speak with you following the attack by the Falcon Clan.
- Halbarad: 'There is no honour to be had by attacking a sleeping foe, Halros, but we should have expected nothing else from the Falcon Clan. Mair learned that tonight, to her sorrow.
- 'We have not repaid Lheu Brenin and the Falcon Clan for our losses, not by a wide throw, but we have shown them our claws. We are all fortunate you have such alert senses, Halros!
- 'I am glad you journeyed with us, for this reason and many others. Look! Dawn breaks. Your vigil for the night is ended! Let us break our fast and see to the coming of the day.'
