General Information

The LOTRO Store was introduced with Volume III, Book 2: The Ride of the Grey Company with the introduction of the Free to Play microtransaction model. Purchases in the Store are made using LOTRO Points. The Store can be accessed at any time in the game, even in dungeons and during quests, by clicking on the LOTRO Store icon (), or by pressing Ctrl-S. It is important to remember that the LOTRO Store is "character-sensitive." That is to say, it will only show you items which that particular character accessing it is qualified to purchase. The Store can also be accessed from the Character Selection screen, but it will only display account-wide items there.

Note that the Mac Client will always generate a pop-up asking to open the store in an external browser.


All items are listed on this page with their normal costs, but prices can vary due to the weekly sales of the Store.

Your LOTRO Points are not held by Standing Stone Games.

  • As of October 2015, the LOTRO Store is operated by a third-party company called Xsolla (Xsolla provides video game developers and publishers with payment and billing services - monetisation solutions - which make it easy to accept in-game payments worldwide via connection to hi-tech payment platforms. http://xsolla.com/company/)

Q. I’m currently living in another country, and I don’t see my preferred payment method. Is there a way to see the other options?
A. Yes. When you are on the payment option select screen, click on “Show More Methods”, then choose your preferred country from the dropdown at the top of the page.

Your LOTRO Points are in your Xsolla account. As a consequence, there is a short delay between earning LOTRO Points in-game, such as for Deed completion, and having them available in the store, i.e. having the addition reported in-game in the LOTRO Store window.


Note that the Web Store, - www.store.lotro.com -, (aka the LOTRO Market) and the in-game Store (LOTRO Store) are two different things. The LOTRO Market or Web Store expects "cash" and does not use LOTRO Points (although you can purchase them in the Market). The LOTRO Market usually has better deals on content than the in-game Store (i.e. expansion sales, etc.).

  • Digital River, which operates the LOTRO Market - www.store.lotro.com - is a public company that provides global ecommerce, payments and marketing services. In 2013, Digital River processed more than $30 billion in online transactions. http://www.digitalriver.com


Purchases can also be made in the LOTRO Store via your Steam Wallet if you are playing via Steam and have the Steam Overlay active. Note that because of the multiple entities involved in such a transaction, this method is frequently non-functional.


Redeeming Key-codes

"Key-codes" can only be redeemed through the on-line LOTRO Store. These codes are usually acquired from outside the game. Typical codes that can be redeemed:

  • Weekly free sample of the week; this is a code that when used will give the character a small free item from the Store, usually a potion, tome, or sturdy steel key. Occasionally the free item will be slightly more special, such as mithril coins or a free house decoration or cosmetic item.
  • As of June 2016, one also activates or manages a VIP subscription via the in-game Store.
  • As of June 2016, all other keys, such as codes obtained when buying Expansions or other items from the LOTRO Market, or from any other retailer, are also redeemed via the in-game Store.
  • There is no need to visit - myaccount.turbine.com - anymore for the redemption of your key codes. Simply open the in-game Store, press "Redeem Code" on the top of the page, and copy-paste or fill in your code.

Exchanging Store Purchases

Some items purchased from the LOTRO Store can be traded with others in the game.

  • Any game item that says both "Bound to Account" and "Purchased from Store" can be mailed to a recipient for a fee of 2 Mithril Coin Mithril Coins per item.
Items which only say "Bound to Account" or only say "Puchased from Store" can therefore not be mailed or traded and are bound to you.

  • Note: The difference between "Expansions" and "Expansion Quests" is that an Expansion normally includes both quests, instances, and sometimes other goodies. When you buy Expansion Quests, you usually only have access to the quests in a given area, and you don't receive the Instance Cluster or any other items that are included in the Expansion. Check the Store description of both the Expansion and Expansion Quests carefully for a list of what is included with both purchases.
  • Some areas only have an Expansion or only have Expansion Quests, and do not give you the option for either buying the quests only or the full Expansion purchase.
  • Expansions can also be purchased for "cash" in the LOTRO Market (https://store.lotro.com).
  • VIP players must also purchase Expansions in order to get access to the content. Quest Packs (see below) are free for VIP players as long as you are a current subscriber. The Quest Packs will not show up in the Store if you have an active subscription.

Vault Storage

Character Vault

The Character Vault is private and cannot be accessed by any other character.

  • Every character receives their initial 30-item Vault space for free.
  • Items that are bound to the character can be stored in the shared vault, but quest items can only be stored in the Character Vault. (Some items cannot be stored in a Vault at all.)
  • Each upgrade adds 15 slots to the Character's storage space, only for the purchasing character!
  • The first six upgrades (Tier I - VI) can be purchased for in-game coin or from the Lotro Store.
  • Tiers VII and up can only be purchased with LOTRO Points from the Lotro Store.
  • Only one Vault Upgrade is available at any given time - they cannot be purchased out of order, and they cannot be purchased all at one time. If you have purchased Upgrade I, then you will see Upgrade II available in the store. After you purchase Upgrade II, then you will see Upgrade III available.
  • Note: You must open your in-game vault at least once prior to purchase of any upgrade.

The first six Vault Upgrades can be purchased for in-game Gold. The remainder must be purchased in the on-line store for LOTRO Points .


Shared Wardrobe Space

As of Update 18.2, the maximum Shared Wardrobe limit is 310 slots for VIP players, and 250 for Premium and Free to Play accounts, account-wide and permanent.

  • Each upgrade to the Wardrobe adds 10 extra slots.

Account Upgrades

Auction House

  • Premium players automatically receive 5 Auction House slots, which stack with these purchases.
  • VIP players do not have to purchase any Auction House slots as long as they are current subscribers.
  • The maximum number of Auction House slots for all account types is 30.

Guilds

Crafting Guild Access allows players to progress from Guild Initiate to Westemnet Master of the Guild standing within a crafting guild. Access for each guild must be purchased separately, but it applies to all characters and servers on the same account. This ability is free for VIP players.
Note: Each Guild Access requires Expert proficiency in that craft.
