14th Anniversary Celebration 2021

April 21, 2021, marks the fourteenth anniversary of the Lord of the Rings Online and as such special events will take place from April 21st 10am to May 12th 3am.

"LOTRO's 14th Anniversary is here and we want you to be a part of our celebration! Premium and VIP players will be eligible to receive gifts based on their account status* as of 10:00 AM EDT on April 21st, 2021. During the Anniversary Festival, which begins at 10:00 AM Eastern (-4 GMT) on Wednesday, April 21st and runs through May 11th, 2021, All active players will be able to participate in our Anniversary festivities for their chance to earn rewards! Among the new rewards are cosmetic torches that can be wielded by your characters, new cloaks and other wearable cosmetics, and a Cozy Grey Cat cosmetic pet! The 2021 anniversary yearly gift will be awarded to your account upon first logging into a character between April 21st, 2021 and March 30th, 2022. Thank you for your continued support of The Lord of the Rings Online."

Other Events

The festival repeats the events from previous Anniversary Festivals, Anniversary account rewards have also been added for accounts created on or before April 30, 2007. Eleven sets of scavenger hunt quests are available from the Party Tree.

Anniversary Gifts and Character Portrait Frames

Gifts are bestowed to accounts according to Account Status - see [2] below for a detailed explanation of Account Status.
The gift boxes are automatically placed in the inventories of all characters on the account upon character login, provided there are enough open spaces available. If you did not have enough inventory spaces, the remaining gifts will appear upon the next login when enough spaces are open.
Eligible players will have their new Character Portrait Frames automatically applied to your characters upon receipt if they are Year 8 and prior; Year 9 and after require opening the gift item, which puts the Portrait Frame into your inventory. (You must select the frame version to display.)
Gifts are no longer awarded based on how long ago the account was created, and have not been for some time; see [3] for more info.

Quests

Notes

  • The Anniversary Quests are divided into two groups:
The Anniversary Scavenger Hunt quests (Not repeatable).
These are all begun at the Party Tree in Hobbiton from hanging scrolls.
The normal Anniversary (and Festival) Quests (Repeatable).
  • The quest level scales to your character's level.
  • The experience and monetary rewards scale based on the quest level
  • Some Anniversary Event repeatable quests are repeatable on a periodic basis (they reset at 3am EST).

Anniversary Scavenger Hunt quests

From 2018 a cut down version of the Scavenger Hunt was introduced which involved locations only in Eriador accessible to players in the Legendary servers. Both quest lines are available concurrently, if the quests have not been completed.

  3. ↑ Per a post by Cordovan on the LOTRO Forums answering a player question:
    Q: Has it always been that you need to log in during the anniversary in order to be eligible for the gift that year to "count"?
    A: The answer is yes, but the way the system awards gifts has changed several times over the years. Up to a certain year it procced based on time since account creation, but after about Year 9 it began incrementing based on the last annual check of your account, and gives you the next in line. So, if you picked up Year 12 last year, you will get Year 13 this year, etc. Yes, though, you DO need to log into the game at least once during the year in order to increment your award and pick up the annual gift. The awards are account-based, so once you log into one of your characters it will increment for the account and put that year's reward on your account.
