Fredegar Bolger

Description

Fredegar "Fatty" Bolger is a friend of Frodo Baggins. In September of TA 3018, he helped Frodo depart from Bag End and move to Crickhollow in Buckland. For a while he remained in Buckland to impersonate Frodo who secretly continued on his eastbound quest. About a week after Frodo's departure from Bree, on September 30, the house was attacked by three Nazgûl. Fatty was terrified but managed to escape out of the house through the back door and make his way the house next-doors and the "Horn-call of Buckland" was sounded throughout the area. The Nazgûl fled empty-handed.

Much, much later in the epic story line, Fatty Bolger led a band of rebels out from the hills of Scary against the Chief's Men. He was captured and thrown into the Lockholes, storage rooms at Michel Delving that were converted into prison cells.

"The day after the battle Frodo rode to Michel Delving and released the prisoners from the Lockholes. One of the first that they found was poor Fredegar Bolger, Fatty no longer." — The Return of the King

Fredegar's younger sister, Estella, married Meriadoc Brandybuck sometime after he returned from the War of the Ring.

Fredegar Bolger is first found outside Frodo Baggins' house in Crickhollow, within north-eastern Buckland. He is quite upset by those Nazgûl and the increasing attacks of crebain.

Somwehat later Fredegar is found near Nobottle Post Office, in the Yondershire.

There he is rallying support for the defence of the Shire and has gathered quite a few admirers.

During a quest Fredegar is found by a crossroads east of Nobottle. ^{[26.4S, 77.6W]}
And soon he will meet with the Yonder-watch at their Secret Hideout. ^{[24.2S, 80.7W]}
