Elrond
Description
Elrond Halfelven is a son of Eärendil and Elwing, together with his twin Elros, and was born in First Age 532, a half-elven as his parents, though he later chose the Elf faction and immortal life. His name means "Elf of the Cave" which marks a story in itself, but may also mean "Vault of Stars" and "Star-dome". When the timings of the current Lotro era occurs he is some 6,500 years old. His wife, Celebrían (who is the daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel) sailed to the West already 510 years before the current timings of Lotro. Together they have the twin sons Elladan and Elrohir, and the beautiful daughter Arwen Undómiel.
Although Elrond is called "Half-elven", he may claim descent from all the main branches of the Eldar, each of the Three Houses of the Edain, and even from the ancient spirits that descended into the World at its beginning. See a further details.
Elrond founded Rivendell in II 1697 as a place to house the refugees from Eregion which had been destroyed by Sauron during the "War of the Elves and Sauron", making the settlement in Rivendell almost 4,500 years old. He was present at the Siege of Barad-dûr when Isildur cut the One Ring from Sauron's finger.
- Elrond is known for his wisdom and leadership and is acknowledged as the wisest master of lore and healing of the Middle-earth. Ancient even amongst the long-lived elves, the regal and commanding Elrond wears the greatest of the three Elf-rings, Vilya, the "Ring of Air", given to him by the great Elf-king Gil-galad. It is Elrond who gathers the Nine to become the Fellowship and charges them with the task of aiding Frodo in his quest to destroy the One Ring. He is friend and ally to those who stand against evil in Middle-earth, although the weariness of carrying the weight of the ages-long struggle can be seen on his noble face. — [lorebook]
Though Elrond is most often found at the lower level of his library in the Last Homely House, occasionally he is found elsewhere, or he appears in quest instances that may take place at different locations:
