Description
Eärendur was the only son of Elendur. He ruled as the tenth King of Arnor for 84 years, a period of no significant events. Eventually he became 221 years old.
His name means "Servant of the Sea" in Quenya, the High Elf tongue. Nothing indicates that Eärendur was a great seafarer but it was the name of two ancestors before him of the realm of Númenor.
Eärendur fathered Amlaith and two sons (with unknown names). Amlaith was destined to succeed Eärendur as the eleventh king but could not overcome the rivalry and disputes with his brothers. As a result Arnor was split and three new kingdoms were founded: Arthedain, Cardolan, and Rhudaur. Thus Eärendur also also became the last High King of Arnor.
