Description
Eärendur (Quenya for Servant of the Sea) was the only son of Elendur. He ruled as the tenth King of Arnor for 84 years, a period of no significant events. He lived to age 221.
In spite the meaning of his name, nothing indicates that Eärendur was a great seafarer but it was the name of two ancestors before him of the realm of Númenor.
Eärendur fathered Amlaith, Eldamacil, and Tarondor II. Amlaith was destined to succeed Eärendur as the eleventh king but could not overcome the rivalry and disputes with his brothers. As a result Arnor was split and three new kingdoms were founded: Arthedain, Cardolan, and Rhudaur. Thus Eärendur became the last High King of Arnor.
