General

Owning your own home in Middle-Earth is a unique experience. What makes it so special is that one can furnish that home, both inside and outside, to suit one's personal tastes. Some kinships hold seasonal "housing competitions" where they award prizes to Kin members for the "best decorated" home (appropriate to the season).

Each house has a certain number of "hooks," each unique, which allow one to place decorations throughout the inside of the home and out in their yards. To learn more about this process, click on Housing. Note that housing decorations are cosmetic in nature. There is no mechanism to acquire or install additional storage chests.

Decorations are obtained in many different ways:

  • Of special note are the lore pages, collected in the landscape, that reward with Audio Journal decorations.

You will quickly discover that you collect far more "Decorations" than you can possibly display, even in the largest home or kinhouse.

Technique(s) for decorating

  • When you are near your home, a button will appear at about 7 O'clock on your Radar -- "Toggle Decoration Mode."
Clicking this will open your various "hooks" for modification. Unused hooks and Items you have already placed will "highlight".
You are now in Decoration Mode.
or
You are no longer in Decoration Mode.
will display in your chat window as appropriate.
  • As you enter your home, immediately beside the door is the "decorator's controls." This is where you apply the appropriate items to change the items mentioned.
Each room in a home may have different decorations.
  • Ambient Music
  • Wall Colour
  • Wall Surface
  • Floor Colour
  • Floor Surface
Double clicking on any of these will open a small panel "Decoration." Drag the desired "decoration" to this window from your inventory.

Placing items

  1. You can place an item by first double clicking on the space. This will pop-up a "Decoration" window displaying the "Type" of space.
  2. Drag the appropriate decoration from your inventory to the small box in the "Decoration" window.
    • If appropriate, a slider will appear below the icon which will allow you to adjust (normally rotate) the positioning of the item in the respective slot.

Notes

  • Adjacent to the "Decoration Mode Toggle," at about 8 O'clock is the "Housing Management" button. Clicking that button opens and closes the "Housing" panel, where you can pay your rent and perform other Housing related tasks. This panel differes from the "House" Panel accessed from the button at the bottom of your character screen in that it only shows information about your house. Assuming it has been enabled, information about your Kinhouse is only displayed when clicking on the button from your Character Panel.
  • These two buttons disappear once you leave the immediate area of your home.
Management and Decoration

Welcome to your new home! Two buttons on the minimap are visible now. One button opens up the Housing Management panel which allows you to pay upkeep, unlock chests, and change permissions for your house.

The other button toggles decoration mode on and off. While in decoration mode, decorations hooks ecome visible and you can use them much the same way as you slot equipment.,

If you need more decorations, visit the Furnisher in the centre of your Neighbourhood.

Decoration Slots

With Update 30.3 Thin, Small, Large and Special Furniture Hooks are now "Furniture Hooks". Small and Large Wall Hooks are now "Wall Hooks". Small and Large Floor Hooks are now "Floor Hooks".
