Description

'Celebrimbor' Statue - Housing decoration

Celebrimbor is one of the most reputed Jewellers of Middle-earth, and the most skilled of the Noldorin Elves who forged the Rings of Power in Eregion under the supervision of Sauron.

Celebrimbor was born in The Years of the Trees, during the First Age, in the line of Finwë. However, it is known that he had no part in the cruel deeds of his brothers and family. On the contrary, he came to be held in the highest esteem with Elves, Men, and Dwarves; he was one of few elves ever who became a dear friend of the dwarves of Khazad-dûm.

Many tales are told about this master of master craftsmen, and they describe a superb Jeweller, Master of Gwaith-i-Mírdain, the elven Jewellers' Guild. However, another tale tells how he was deeply in love with Galadriel, who was married to Celeborn, and he made her a gem almost as grand as the green gem known as "Elessar", or Elfstone, with trapped sun light within. This is the gem which Galadriel gave Aragorn when the fellowship visited Lothlórien, as a future wedding gift for him and Arwen.

The rumours of Celebrimbor travelled far and wide, and eventually reached Sauron's ear. Around II 1200 Sauron travelled to Eregion, disguised as Annatar ("Lord of Gifts"), and befriended the elven Jewellers. With cunning words and the promise of great crafting skill, Sauron quickly gained their favor, and guided them in creating the Rings of Power: the rings that would later become the seven rings for the Dwarves, and the nine rings for Men. However, without Sauron's knowledge Celebrimbor also made the three elven rings Narya, Vilya, and Nenya (meaning "fire, "air", and "water"), thus they were free from his corruption.

Around II 1600 Sauron forged the One Ring to give himself dominion over the Rings of Power, but the Elves immediately sensed his intent and took off their rings, hiding the three with the Wise. Celebrimbor was one of those who thwarted his plans, which made him a target of Sauron's wrath. In II 1695 Sauron ruined Eregion and captured Celebrimbor. Under torture the famous jeweller revealed where the sixteen rings were held, but not where the three elven rings were kept safe. Two years later he died from his wounds, as the last descendant of Fëanor's line.

His name means "Hand of Silver" and is the direct translation of his father's name in the tongue of Quenya, Telperinquar.

In LOTRO Celebrimbor is featured as a statue which can be used as a decoration for a garden. It can be bought from Rombrennil in Imlad Gelair, Rivendell.
