Monster types

I'd say this page needs some cleaning up - or specifically the way we add things does. For example putting groups of monsters in the same category as individual monsters tends to be messy. I'd suggest putting only individual monsters here, and make a separate page for monster groups (like boars, goblins, orc-kind and so on). Orions 16:57, 30 June 2007 (PDT)

Specio has been doing an amazing job adding creatures, and they are all categorised on the pages in that catalogue. It may well be worth creating categories under "Creature" to help organise them, but for right or wrong, we tend to let everything be part of a top level category eg all quests appear under Category:Quests regardless of how else they are categorised. Ok, maybe I did not write it in a clear way (I'm new to wikis in general, so please bear with me). What I don't like is for example: when you see the creatures category, you can see entires like that: Blue crag Chieftain, Blue Crag something, Blue Crag something else.... and Blue Crags. I do agree that all the individual monsters should be in the main category. But the subgroups IMO should not. In other words, the Blue Crag Chieftain, Blue Crag something, etc. should stay, but the Blue Crags subgroup should be moved somewhere else.Orions 01:05, 1 July 2007 (PDT)
Hi there, I see what you are talking about the list of Creatures under the Catalog system not the list in the pages. When I or some one else work out the Catalog system we made have it display the way pages listing now. --Speico 01:31, 1 July 2007 (PDT)
Hi. I've seen the catalog and it's great. So, I suggest something like this: we leave the individual monster pages in the Category:Creatures page but we remove all the monster groups form that page and add them instead to the creature catalog. And by the way, I would also suggest making wiki categories for difficulty types of monsters (normal, signature, etc.).Orions 01:50, 1 July 2007 (PDT)
OK, I've added Category:Creature types & moved everything that seems appropriate. Also created categories for the difficulty levels Category:Creature_difficulty. Did you want one for "normals" too, and if so what name? (I don't think it necessary personally). DancesInTrees 04:09, 1 July 2007 (PDT)

Location

I think the topic was raised in the Creatures page discussion, but I'd like to remind it. Would you think it would be good to categorize creatures by location where they are encountered? Then we could enhance the region and location pages with links to these categories.Orions 12:41, 2 July 2007 (PDT)

Well I was thinking some thing like that but you bet me to it lol well yes. There been a new namespace call Region for location, town's and lands. So we may need to move the pages with the old name to the new namespace eg. the Old Forest to Region:the Old Forest. --Speico 14:37, 2 July 2007 (PDT)
Heh, am not so sure of myself to dabble in that :P But I created the location subcategory and all the regions categories. Was wondering whether to divide it further into locations (like "The Shire creatures" would be divided into "Tookland creatures", "Greenfields creatures" and so on). After a moment though i thought it would be an overkill :D Orions 15:24, 2 July 2007 (PDT)

Creature Info

HI all well I have a made a Template:Creature Info this template is to put info in about the type of Creature and where it's living. Plus it will setup Catalog and location information too. here is a eg for you. Slimy River-toad --Speico 18:24, 3 July 2007 (PDT)

Monster Lists

Is it possible in the monster lists by catergories to display Location, Level and Species along with the name? If you're looking for "goblins I can kill in Ered Luin" and you don't know that the goblins are called Blue-crag you have to open every monster in the list in a new tab to find out which ones are goblins.

These are example pages of lists of creatures https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Category:Goblins https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Category:Ered_Luin_Creatures

So in the above lists they would return: Blue-crag Novice (Ered Luin, lv:8-9, Goblin)

Another alternative would be to do Category intersection searches between species and area since they are all tagged up this way. --Inyahin (talk) 17:10, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
