Liquid Threads not working

Folks can start a thread on this page, but I can't see it. That is very strange. I can see it in the "Recent Changes" listing, and I get a "New Messages" notice, but if I click the link on the "Recent Changes" page it says something like no such thread. Any one have ideas about what is going wrong here!

RingTailCat (talk)‎2012-01-19T14:41:08

Interesting. I tried to create a new discission on Zimoon's talk page. It hung when I clicked "Save", but there is an entry in the "Recent Changes". Note that in all the problem cases, someone is trying to create a discussion on another user's talk page. It seems to work all right when I create a discussion on my own talk page. And I think I can add replies to existing discussions. Is this a bug or a feature?
RingTailCat (talk)‎2012-01-19T15:01:15
Well, I see Zimoon's reply in "Recent Changes" but not here. So, Zimoon: what browser are you using. I use the latest version of Firefox, with NoScript. Is it possible that you have some scripts blocked? Liquid Threads seems to use more Javascript and Ajax betwixt browser and server than the more or less static content served up for most pages. (I am assuming that since you tried to reply, you could see my part of this thread!)
I have started a non-LT discussion at Talk:Lotro-Wiki Contributors' Corner#Liquid Threads Problems. So we can try to sort this out.

testing 1 2 3
Lotroadmin (talk)‎2012-01-20T17:46:53
Well that seemed to be the issue.. Not at all sure what changed with MW18.1 but I will have to take a peak.

Luas

I just started writing some stuff about Luas... User:Magill/Lua. Originally, so I could remember "stuff." I see that you started a page on Lua Scripting.

I've noticed that there is a bit of info that needs updating.

Quick Quest Query

I noticed you removed the 0/ from two quests (maybe more). Is that some new style Turbine is using? Or is it we editors who had introduced something that never been there maybe? Just curious, as usual.

Zimoon (talk)‎2011-12-17T03:46:27

Yah, that's something I sometimes do.
To my mind, the (0/8) expresses the dynamic state of the quest, while (8) expresses the static goal of the quest.
This is the first feedback I've got on the subject. I'm not especially commit to either way of representing the numeric goal of a quest.
RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-12-17T04:01:57
Me neither, from one way of view we should mimic how the objective reads in the game. And on the other the static number is what matters in the end. (0/8) has the static info but maybe it is not how it reads in game, but if I log into game now to check I'd have waggro pretty quick :P
However, I think most quests I have seen at the wiki the double number so I assume we should have a good reason to stray away from that. What do you think?
Zimoon (talk)‎2011-12-17T04:11:25
Makes sense. There is only one quest I've encountered where the first number starts out non-zero: Vol 2, Book 1, Chapter 5: Keeping Sharp. The lazy dwarf picked up 2 stones, and wants you to get the rest. On second look - that should be fixed (done).
RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-12-17T06:24:18
Hmm... As I recall, it depends on when you look at the quest. I have to find a repeatable quest for one of my toons, but I believe that the initial quest dialog says "obtain x" items, but as soon as you look at it in the Quest log, you see "0/x". ... ghads it is taking along time to log-in to the game today. ... daily tasks "Next Objective in opening dialog is "* Collect bent metal maces (0/15)" Dark Spirits of the Windfells -- Repeatable shows "Next Objective *Defeat Cuthraul (0/3)" in it's dialog box, and in the Quest Tracker. The actual "bequest dialog" has no numbers in it, only under "Next Objective."
So to match the in-game dialog "0/" is correct.
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk)‎2011-12-17T15:04:02
BTW, while we are talking about quest write ups, I notice that you tend to replace the player name with <name>, while I usually use <Player name>.
My thinking is that using <Player name> is consistent with inserting <Player race>, <Placer class>, <Player vocation>, etc. where appropriate.
RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-12-17T06:30:15
Hehehe, we had that discussion in IRC a while ago and I think we never came anywhere but to one thing: a player is never found in-game, but his character is. So we all said that the only thing that makes sense, really, is <name>, <character name>, <xxx name>, but never "player". That discussion started with the "should it be <> or [] or () etc" post, if you remember. Indeed there are players that are so into a game they feel as if they are there, behind the monitor, but ... :P
Zimoon (talk)‎2011-12-17T08:46:49
Probably we should have somebody run a bot that replace and unify these things. I think many new-comers look at what we have and then they follow forever whatever they happen to see, whether that is something really odd and rarely found or whatever that is.
Current targets are:
   <xxx name> --> <name> .... Just because it is shorter :P ... Or whatever we agree on.
Involved in Quests --> Quest Involvement .... We have agreed on that in some post somewhere (kind of a voting).
But surely there are more possible targets.
Zimoon (talk)‎2011-12-17T08:50:27

Ox Clan Merchant camp

Crazy... high above the grounds of Nan Curunir.... 79.9 S 0.3E -- entrance is via a sewer pipe on the opposite side of the river near the falls.

A full set of trainers and bounty traders, mailbox and milestone... and probably the instance entrances. There's some ancient forge of the Númenóreans here that I haven't found yet

You get there as the target of The quest "Slipping Through the Fingers of the White Hand"

LOL... Entrance completes the Deed: DIscover: Instances of Isengard... Discover the Ox-clan Merchant camp in Nan Curunir... Reward = "This will Grant Experience"

Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk)‎2011-12-14T21:25:55

Aha, The Forge is the funky thing with red stuff in it... not labeled, you just click on the sigil you are given to get the Orthanc Sigil-fragment
It appears that the entrances/exits to all of the new instances are here... which is also where you turn in/barter your sigils.
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk)‎2011-12-14T21:33:46
I made some pages: Ox-clan Merchant Camp and Ancient Forge of the Númenóreans.
And I see other folks are already fleshing them out!
RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-12-14T23:37:17
Me... just added a couple of photos and changed the "location" description... see if it makes any sense.
Also need to check the map from a toon that has not been there -- there is a Mile post marker that shows once you have been there.

ROI - Update 5

I started the Epic listing for Update 5 last night... about 12 hours before the beta ended at noon today, so I didn't finish it.... Somehow I missed the fact that the Update 5 beta opened last week. Update 5 is scheduled for "mid-December" as I recall.

Turbine seems to use a bunch of redundant names for quests in the log.

Chapter 4 seems to have/need two entries, but I kept getting killed and didn't finish, (It was 2 am and it was talking less and less time to die each re-try!) so I didn't figure out if there is #5 between the two instances (or if there is a third).

Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk)‎2011-11-23T15:56:08

Two new "pre-req" quest givers in Galtrev ... outside the AH...Gwin and Mabon.... (Gwin may be bugged also). These are pre-req quests for the new Isengard instances.
Gwin's "Slipping Through the Fingers of the White Hand" is a quest that needs to be completed before Mabon's quest.
Also, Dagoras has (I think) a new quest.
And the Crafting Hall and Auction house have new banners instead of wooden signs!
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk)‎2011-12-13T14:16:19
I notices a bit of shuffling around of workbenches and NPCs in the Galtrev craft hall. It was a bit of a double take - oh - this is different. It's a bit of reverse Déjà vu.
RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-12-13T14:20:06
About to start the Book 5 Epic string and when I got to the Rohirrim Scout Camp, discovered a "new?" quest from Saeradan - "A Shameful Loss" which starts the quest "Seeking a Solution".... I guess it was bugged. ... when I went to look in my inventory for the pick-axe I was just given, I was informed I just completed the quest "Seeking a solution" and then "A Shameful Loss."
It appears that "A Shameful Loss" is the wrapper quest for what was previously the stand-alone quest -- Seeking a Solution, which I had previously completed.
The dialog is fascinating ... "Background ... When Saeradan asked you to search near the Mustering Tree and the Tree of Tribute for signs of other evil tokens, he gave you a pick-axe with which to dig them up...which you promptly lost."
Wierd, but good for another 300 Rep with the Riders.
Oh yeah, there is now a Refelcting Pool at the Rohirrim Scout camp for some reason.
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk)‎2011-12-13T14:49:52
Hmmm I wonder if this Quest:A Shameful Loss replaces Quest:A Peace-shattering Silence or it only is offered to those who completed it before Update 5 was released.
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk)‎2011-12-13T15:52:39
I guess we need to get input from someone who is running those quests for the first time. My next one is still at lvl 58, so it will be a while before I have a fresh character in the area. I expect, I would just see the same thing as you with my lvl 75 toons. Both of those are way ahead of most of the other folk in my kins, so no joy there.
My wife took her lvl 75 Warden through those quests earlier today. It sounded like she did the same quests as we did. She didn't mention a new one (she took a hunter through weeks ago), but she doesn't pay attention to quest details the way I do!
I think you can get stuck if your inventory is full when you would normally get the pick axe. That may be what this new quest is all about.

Trophy Icons

Thanks for tagging all of these today (and seems like you're still working on it). Icon consolidation will be going on for a looong time, but every bit helps. Maybe I should just adminify you so you can delete them yourself, heh.

Sethladan ‎2011-12-12T15:56:02

I've been part of the problem - creating items with unique icons, even though there are identical generic ones. So, I feel an obligation to do my part to fix up the icons.
RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-12-12T15:58:20
I think we've all been there; it was the policy when I arrived and until only recently that each item should have its own icon. Tectonic shifts do happen overnight at times, heh.
Sethladan ‎2011-12-12T17:44:43
I am certainly recommending a lot of files for deletion! I would save some one else the job if I could do it myself.
RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-12-13T12:11:13
I came to the same conclusion! You've also been good at pointing out files for movement, etc. Promoted to Administrator! This is probably long overdue, as I'm usually reluctant to meddle in user rights. Go nuts, kid. :)
Sethladan ‎2011-12-13T12:31:34
Thanks. Are there any guidelines for admins? E.g. How to do certain tasks.
Is there something like a trashcan for deleted pages, in case of ones own, or someone else's, oops? I had a case like that last night where another admin removed an item which should not have been removed. Luckily, I had saved the information needed to recreate it locally, but that's not always the case.
RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-12-13T12:37:33
No guidelines in place yet, sorry! You can find "Delete" under the arrow in the top right (same place as "Move"), and don't worry too much about accidentally zapping things - only Lotroadmin can totally wipe information out. Like anything else, deletes can be restored. There's a deletion [[1]] where you can check out what's been axed.
Sethladan ‎2011-12-13T12:45:19
Ah, that's good to know. I was standing beside a unix admin who entered "rm -rf /", and heard him wonder why it was so slow! Too much power can be a dangerous thing.
RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-12-13T12:51:51
On the subject of Icons ... they apparently fixed a couple of crafting icons for Westfold Crafting ... Drops of Birch tar is the one I noticed.
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk)‎2011-12-13T14:08:28
Some of the tier 7 ingots looked different, too. Some of the icons were changed back in November, based, I presume, on beta content.
RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-12-13T14:11:00
Just noticed... Dunland Healing/Lhinestad potions are now square bottles. Don't when that happened.

Epic Quests -- pointer

Hi RTC, there was a chat about epic quests going on at Star's talk-page, just wanted to properly include you, the quest-guru: User talk:Starbursty#Question about Epic Quests

Liquid Threads

Edited by author. Last edit: 2011-11-23T16:15:24

I have converted my talk page to liquid threads.

First, if you want to save the current contents of your talk page, move your existing talk page to a new name. You can use the Move menu command, if you have it, or insert {{Move|new page name|reason for move}} to request an admin to move the page. You may have to wait a while until an admin gets around to moving your page.

I moved my old User talk:RingTailCat to User talk:RingTailCat/Archive

Then replace the content of your talk page, which now has a (e.g.) #REDIRECT User talk:RingTailCat/Archive with this:

Previous topics can be found [[User talk:RingTailCat/Archive|here]].
{{#useliquidthreads:1}}

Edit this to point to your old talk page contents.

Nobody has been hyping the change, so I'll mention some of the benefits I see.

  • Automatic signing of every post.
  • Update notifications; no more checking the watchlist for changes of interest.
  • Tidy notification; no more annoying banner when someone updates your talk page.
  • Dynamic threaded discussions allowing for finer grain discussion.
  • Comments can be edited

RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-11-23T14:28:56

Woot!!!
Lotroadmin (talk)‎2011-11-23T15:33:13
Thanks for the "benefits" ... now how about a pointer to the "how to use this fershlugerner thing!...!

LT 3.0 will be out soon and will be a revamp of 2.0.
Lotroadmin (talk)‎2011-11-23T15:42:01
This thing is going to guarantee we spend more time in chat than editing pages ....!
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk)‎2011-11-23T15:43:16
Hrm, like a test drive that never ends...
Lotroadmin (talk)‎2011-11-23T15:48:18
And this may be the last reply you see, unless you tweek the user configuration. The default depth is 5, so I am guessing that there will be conditions under which a reply to this post will not be visible.
RingTailCat (talk)‎2011-11-23T15:53:38
So this is hidden?
Lotroadmin (talk)‎2011-11-23T15:55:45
Define hidden? I didn't do anything to see it, and it was in the "new messages"
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk)‎2011-11-23T15:57:36
I wasn't able to see my own post on the talk page.. hrm.. I've bumped up the max depth to 10.. I hope the max thread depth improves in LT3.0
Lotroadmin (talk)‎2011-11-23T16:01:12
Hmmm... I replied to "So is this hidden" but I don't see my reply.... and if I click reply it goes to the top of the page again -- no text box...
But here I am replying to the depth 5 item.... apparently without issues
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk)‎2011-11-23T16:00:31
Weird ... I keep getting "different" displays... It kept telling me I had 6 new replies, but didn't show me anything differeent, till I clicked "marked as read" and then the "new count" dropped to four... AND ... I got a "show reply" under the "so this is hidden box... and now that changed to "show 1 more replies and my sig With the "rotating triangle" to click on.
