Hi there, first off I'd like to give you a warm welcome to our wiki! I noticed your work starting the Bogbereth article, and it is indeed something that should not have been missing! Thanks to you it isn't anymore. While I naturally have a few minor things that I will be changing when I work over the article soon, one of which is:

  • Location in the infobox - this should just be the general region name, in this case Angmar. If you want to give the actual detailed location, that's something you can put in the summary or a separate location headline if you'd like - but that's already been done. Note that we have a coordinate tooltip here, so if you want to use it (and for all locations where you feel coordinate locations would be useful, you should) you can call it like this: {{Tooltip Coords|Region|#.#N|#.#W}}.

We've got a great (but still small) community of guys and gals here, and I hope you decide you'd like to stick around and help out more. If you have any questions, just let me or any of the other editors know, or check out our IRC channel. --Fedaykin 11:35, 6 February 2008 (PST)

Thanks for the info and the gracious welcome, hopefully I can help make some solid contributions to the wiki once I get a little more familiar with the standards and such. I'll try to get a screenshot and LM scan of Bogbereth and some other mobs if I get a chance. If you could point me to info on how to upload graphics, and any style articles, I'd appreciate it. MysterX 11:47, 6 February 2008 (PST)
Right now we haven't really implemented much of a "Manual of Style", but we're working it, and if you ever need a reference then the ones found on Wikipedia and WoWWiki can give you a good idea. Among too many other things I have been working on an instance article guideline, and I got into some points about images on there. Unfortunately it's far from complete, but can serve as a reference too.
Before I forget, there's one more thing I wanted to point out on your article. You listed her relative difficulty as "Medium", but it's more likely to be Easy or even Very Easy, since you can just run in there and pretty much tank-n-spank her down. Check out the Relative Difficulty Guideline on my userpage for more information on how this classification works. Now that it's been brought up again, I will actually add it to the guidelines page, so it's not just on some user page.
As for uploading graphics, you use the "Upload file" utility (found in the toolbox on the bottom left side). We generally accept two types of image formats here: JPG and PNG. PNG is the standard choice for icons and other very small images, whereas JPG is used to preserve good quality on all larger images without a very large file size. --Fedaykin 12:18, 6 February 2008 (PST)
Ah thanks for reminding me, I was going to ask about that too. I wasn't sure if it was difficulty for bosses or mobs in general, and I debated with myself about easy vs. medium since if you do it with a full raid it's a cakewalk... MysterX 12:24, 6 February 2008 (PST)

Teal / Cyan Items

Although I've always known that these were essentially "cyan" (or "incomparable"), some people in my kinship (and more generally in lotro) seemed to call them "teals", so it caught on. You're right though, that's not what we should call them on here. :) --Fedaykin 20:29, 11 March 2008 (PDT)

I think I even saw a dev using teal instead of cyan or incomparable in one of the dev chats... --Xander 03:19, 12 March 2008 (PDT)
I know it has become the common term for them in the LOTRO venacular, but even 'aqua' would be more accurate. Remembering the old pre-internet days when ASCII color first gained traction on BBS's, it makes me sad that 'cyan' is apparently a dead word in the wired world... MysterX 09:12, 12 March 2008 (PDT)

Promotion

You've made a solid amount of good contributions so far, so I've moved you up to ninja status. I believe that means you can protect and unprotect pages (mainly used for pages where vandalism could have a serious effect even for a short time, such as templates), and you can thus also edit any page even if it's protected. I think you get to rollback (revert all edits from a single user at once) as well. Plus it's a little recognition for your work. :) --Fedaykin 20:37, 27 March 2008 (PDT)

Thank you, I'll be sure to use my newfound powers for Good and not Evil. Although I might at times be tempted to use them for Wicked. And to think they told me I'd never get a promotion if all I ever did all day at work was sit around editing wiki pages. :)
You were long past due for Administrator status. I've corrected that now --Lotroadmin 22:00, 27 January 2009 (PST)

Bear Pictures

Nice work on the galleries. Do you think you could up the lighting/brightness on those bear pictures though? I find it quite difficult to see much of the bears in that light. --Fedaykin 10:01, 28 March 2008 (PDT)

It always seems to be night when I have enough time to take my screenshots... I plan on doing some more pet pics once I get a few more appearance amulets, so I will try to do it during the day. The lynxes are even harder to capture because of stealth, I have some night shots of them that aren't even worth uploading. I noticed that the bear pics seem to be brighter in Firefox than IE for some strange reason. If anyone with a better external editor than MSpaint knows a good way to brighten them up, have at it.
Those taxidermist ones look good to me on Firefox. Could you try to upload them as .jpg though? Generally for anything other than icons that's the format we recommend. On larger images it reduces image size more and keeps quality good - plus I think MS likes it more, so IE might too. --Fedaykin 09:58, 30 March 2008 (PDT)
DOH! I thought PNG had a smaller image size, I will try JPG for the larger images. I guess I got comfortable with PNG when I noticed how well it resized text... MysterX 13:02, 30 March 2008 (PDT)

Infobox Mob

Don't worry too much about it. As you can see on the forums I've proposed a boss infobox, and will be working on this when I have some more spare time. The Mob template doesn't automatically resize images, and though we can fix that, I'd rather just create a new template for all the bosses since we could add more fields of information than the Mob template currently has. --Fedaykin 12:29, 2 April 2008 (PDT)

The Ancient Master

Hey I wanted to let you know I double checked in-game with my main Lore-master to make sure I hadn't miss-read the stack bonuses, and it is Dead (otherwise known as the Dead), not Men. I rolled back your changes. Rogue 14:53, 24 November 2008 (PST)

  • There's already release notes for the next patch? But they just had a patch! LOL. Well I'll fix all of them tomorrow then. Sorry about the confusion, I just go by in-game and screenshots. Rogue 22:33, 24 November 2008 (PST)

Images

U should know better by now... it's .png NOT .PNG :P Rogue 06:28, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Disambiguation

Since these go hand in hand, for right now, I would combine the title and the trait on the same page page, with no "trait" or "title" tags in the title. The Quest page is as it should be. Uloria 00:08, 12 April 2009 (UTC) (p.s. I've already combined these two, while sorting it out :))

IRC Chat

Hey, if you are familiar with IRC we have a channel available to use on Freenode /join LOTRO-wiki. If you are not familiar with IRC but have Firefox then you can download a plugin called Chatzilla which functions as an IRC client. It's very simple to use. I am on there right now, and would like to see those of us editing to be on there as well that way we can converse with each other easily. Rogue 22:03, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Recipes

Those changes are nice, but you do realize all the farmer recipes need updated right? With the newer versions of both Template:Recipe and Template:Crafting. I haven't gotten to that profession yet. Rogue 23:27, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

OK, I didn't realize you had it in your scopes already... I am still not super-comfortable with all things Template-related, so I will leave it to the pros, especially if you have a more efficient method. MysterX 23:34, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
I don't know about all that, but yes we have been replacing the old recipe pages with new templates/information. Updating as I go. I would say I have become efficient at it but you are more welcome to help out. Visit Lotro-wiki.com:Crafting to see what I copy and paste. Otherwise, I'll take your inititive and finish updating all recipes before starting on their item pages :) It'll be loads of fun I am sure. Rogue 23:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
