Cook icons

Also, something I've been meaning to do, but if you are interested in the cook section then I will pass this along. The cooking icons need an update. If you notice any food/ingredient icon that's not what shows in-game then please capture those by taking screen shots. Look here for instructions/standards. You may notice that some food icons are brown (Lorebook) when they should be red (actual in-game) and those are the ones I would greatly appreciate being replaced. Thanks much and feel free to ask questions on my talk page. Rogue 18:18, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the help :)

Just wanted to say thanks for your help on the crafting recipe/item updates. You're doing a great job. FYI I've been taking this opportunity to fix the recipes to use the {{Recipe}} template instead of the {{Item Tooltip}} template as well, and also fix things like stack size (since those all changed with book 8) and item sell values, etc. Anyway thanks again :) --Gaerlin 23:49, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Welcome! My free time has been dragged trying DDO, the other Turbine game, that went "free" last week... I should be back soon to complete at least cook recipes, and I'd like to go through older trophies to remove the content and tell for which new component(s) they can be bartered for, referring to Bill Brockhouse; and maybe add a similar list for the oldest trophies bartered by Taddyn. Legendary items

I wonder about deconstructing, is the heritage rune giving back a fixed or random % of the accumulated IXP? Also, if I deconstruct at level 12, will I get a bit more IXP than at level 11?

  • As I understand it, deco-ing a level 11-20 LI will produce a random XP rune all in the same range (5K-15K), while 21-30 will produce a random XP rune in the next higher ranger (22K-?), so it just matter what range it's in (which is why most people deco at 11, 21, 31, 41, or 50).

I don't know how hard it can be to gather, but it'd be nice to have a list of titles and their effect(s) that can be applied to any item (or just weapons?), like "Guardian of the Deep Halls"? Are they only available from quest rewards?

  • LI titles all come as quest rewards except for one ("Hero of Caras Galadhon") which is a barter item in CG. Currently all we have is #Category:Legendary Item Title Items, but it would be nice to create an index page for these.

About forging relics, it seems to be available only from settings, if I remember well? I've only done that twice I think... So I guess gems or runes can be the result of forging settings?

  • Any relic can be forged from 5 of any other relic, whether they're settings, gems, or runes.... it's all random.

Recipe Indexes

It was decided a while ago to change the recipe indexes to reflect only recipe information because there are now item indexes that reflect all item stats. Those can be found in Master Item Index. I would prefer that the recipe index changes remain as I update them for the time being. Please do not replace this new format with additional information. Refer to those item indexes and update those or create them! That way people know that recipe indexes are for recipe information and item indexes are for stats! Thanks much. Rogue 19:56, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

  • Oh, so should I remove the infos I've put in cook recipe indexes and transfer all in these lists? Thorvalin has started to update weaponsmith and I was reformating like what I did in cook... I thought it was more convenient to see all that can be made at any tier directly in the page. So I guess I should also refer to these lists in each recipe index? Is there a link to that Master Item Index from the main page?

P.S.: Where is it better to reply to any question? Goingbald 20:53, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

    • Yes, if you want to move over the stats to the correct item indexes that would be terrific. It was actually implimented by Gaerlin so blame him. ;) I am sorry about the confusion. I plan on updating all indexes before moving on to actual recipe pages and updating those. I can definitely put the master item index on the main page as well, thanks for the suggestion. I too thought the information was fine on the recipe indexes but I was outvoted at the time. :( Replying how we are is fine, it makes it easy to see new message. Welcome

Congrats on becoming a ninja! To see what your new rights are check out Lotro-Wiki.com:Ninjas. You may also want to edit your user page with some little tid-bit about yourself. Doesn't have to be fancy. I went ahead and created it putting your categories in. :) Rogue 20:22, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Indexes

Great job so far, liking the additions / changes! :) Keep it up. I'll try to help with the weapons indexes adding the woodworker weapons once I finish with the supreme woodworker recipe index. Rogue 20:26, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Class Trait pages

Nicely done with the Captain trait page! Rogue 01:56, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! I started a rune-keeper for fun when I discovered these tabs where you can see all traits described in game, and the way it was built similarly by set in the wiki, I figured it could be easy to update all classes. Only the Hunter was built the same way as the rune-keeper, so I started alphabetically with the Burglar, then the Captain (didn't have time to complete descriptions tonight), so I should be going through all of them eventually, but it's nevertheless really long even if the info is collected for input! :) I'm wondering, once all done, if the pages "Accomplishments" and "Deeds" will be really useful, with that "Deed/Quest" column being part of traits tables? -- Goingbald 04:19, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Trait names

The problem with names is everyone wants to do it differently. Some follow game format and some follow Lorebook, which are different. We attempted to establish our own format for naming as far as capitalization or not. Our structure is generally caps on words except ones like the, an, a, if.. etc. before would be capitalized according to the way the wiki does things. This is always up for discussion if people feel the need to change it. Also, we ruled that words after a hyphen - are always lowercase... Dwarf-iron or Elven-steel etc Rogue 17:14, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Capturing images

I do screenshots normally and end up with jpgs. Sometimes I sneak over to Lorebook and steal their icons if I know they are accurate, check in game to make sure or recognize the new images. They may be brighter dunno. My settings are set to high on most everything.. sometimes ultra high. Plus my monitor is huge and widescreen so the larger resolution might make a difference in quality and "brightness". I think it's 1900 x 1600 or something in there. Not at home so can't check atm. Rogue 17:14, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for wikifying images

Hi Goingbald. I just wanted to thank you for wikifying rewards :) As I stated before, I already spend too much time with quests (and now NPCs and Mobs), and the rewards are way down my priorities list. I understand that a image placeholder is bad in a wiki, but I thought that it was better to have an imageph than a redlink :) -- Ahrien 08:51, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Answers

I've added a comment on the Talk:Virtues page, still need all the numbered icons?

Answer: Will look at this soon.

For the previous class pages (deeds & quests) that I had marked for deletion, what should be done? They are integrated in the trait tables in the last column "Deed/Quest", still need them apart?

Answer: The answer to this may be the same for your deletion question below.

"Wikifying" images (mostly Ahrien's it seems) means that each image should have its "tooltip" template created and the image deleted? 753 images when I wrote this comment.

Answer: In short Yes. I love that Ahrien is involved in adding as much as he can as fast as he can, but he has left us with a tedious task. All the pages with just an image needs to be re-done completely. Each item page needs to have the {{Item Tooltip}} template added, information from image to template transferred, any additional information included, and last the original image deleted. At the very least additional information can come later. But it would be nice to know quest information, as I can guarantee that most are quest reward items.

All pages should have at least one category?

Answer: Yes, they need to belong somewhere. If you cannot think of where to put it then leave that to another to worry about as there's a place we can look to see if pages need categories. Same goes with categories. With the exception of the home category.. Lord of the Rings Online I believe, all categories should be in other categories.. or at least in the home. But if you don't want to bother yourself with file management, leave it for someone else. :)

Before deleting something, any advice on how to proceed? I guess at least check that nothing is linked to the page to delete.

Answer: A good rule for this one is to check the "what links here" link before deleting anything. Make sure that is cleared out (exceptions can be other user's pages or talk pages) beforehand. Once that's clear you should be good to go. If you're ever unsure you can always put the {{Delete Page}} template on it and someone else will come along and do housekeeping.

I hope this helps! Rogue 22:35, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Firefox

Do you use firefox??? Reason I ask is because I'd love to see more activity in our IRC chat. It's a place where we can go while we are working on the wiki and just chat or ask questions when they come up.. etc. Rogue 22:36, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Go ahead and stay logged into chatzilla whenever you are on the wiki unless you are at a computer that doesn't allow that. You never know who may pop in. I will do my best to use it as well, been awhile for me. Plus I cannot get it to work properly at work. Rogue 16:23, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Recipe Index

I'd prefer we keep it how it is now, reason I say that is you can always show/hide the TOC. I understand that it makes it a bit long, but what you describe I do not like particularly. Not to say I am open for more discussion or suggestions.... but having them all under one heading is bad management. I suppose we could just make "basic" "vendor" "drop" bold instead of headings, that way only Jewellery or Light Breeland Armour etc show in the TOC. What would you think of that? Rogue 16:23, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Reminders to myself

Check the items in the following categories, to move to those used in game :

Answers

Q1: I think I understand what you are asking. The item page should have links to the recipe or recipes that make the item. I would not make sense to have the guild component, in this case the symbol, to be anywhere else but the recipe page that it is an ingredient to, the Improved recipe.

Q2: All NPC portraits should be taken close up, without any names, and without the selection ring that shows up when selected. It is ok to have the symbol over their head as that's nigh impossible to not have in most instances.

Let me know if I answered your questions! Rogue 16:36, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Scholar Items

I think I can answer your questions 1 & 2. For 3 & 4 I'd gladly wait for Rogue to answer :) So here goes:

1. Should we use or avoid {{PAGENAME}} in general? I see some recipes, not modified yet, using it everywhere in the Craft Information block, like for Simple Milkthistle Draught?

Disambig is mandatory. Please refer to https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Template_talk:Item Tooltip. I had the same problem - I didn't like using it because it broke Lootbox functionality but well, as far as I know, there's no way around it. That was half a year ago though, so maybe there are other options now. Orions 07:05, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Do not use {{PAGENAME}} unless the following happens: There's an apostrophy (Protector's) in the name or a colon. Some symbols do not work with the tooltip template and therefore with the lootbox. Otherwise, type the full name please! Rogue 21:56, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

2. For all the books, I see the ":" is replaced by "-" in the page name, is it because using the ":" won't work properly? I've not tried yet to rename these pages, like for Bow Chant: Minor Foe-finder Recipe.

Using ":" in page names might break the wiki. Note that a ":" denotes a namespace, such as "Template:" or "Item:". Orions 07:05, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
This goes with the tooltip problem of not recognizing the symbol :. Also, windows does not allow the colon in file names so we could not create the appropriate name icons to match. We decided to unify both file name and article name with a dash as that worked for both file name and tooltip. Rogue 21:56, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

3. I need to put somewhere the text "Cannot use with Effect: Balanced Attunement" that appears in white in my screen capture, under the level, but I couldn't figure where to put it for the Grey Enamel, any advice?

Pretty easy I think. I'll check out these recipes/items in game and see what you are talking about. Then I'll mess with the template and add that somewhere for us. Rogue 21:56, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

4. I've started to change the links in component/ingredient items to link to the recipes instead, like for Pile of Dye Salts, where I've removed the previous link to the Black Dye, being the critical result of the Rust Dye Recipe, that's OK?

My first reaction is to say No, that's not ok. First of all it's quite a big project (big in the sense that it will take a lot of work to change all related articles). There's a lot to do already, both updating old and adding new. Second because this is a somewhat big task it might be wise to ask for popular opinion. Would people rather have links to the item or the recipe or even both? I would ask this on a talk page somewhere, maybe under category:Component items? I would say it's not important but if you feel it is and want to take on editing those articles then by all means. Rogue 21:56, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

5. Any advice on how to name/rename the legendary items that seem now to have all the same names in pairs, but one usable at level 60 and the other usable at 65? "<LIname> (60)" and "<LIname> (65)"?

This is a sensitive subject. Because this is not the only time that I've come across items with the same name that are different levels and different stats. I've been avoiding how to do this with having one of those items in tooltip and the others with the old infobox item template in the same article. I'm not sure what to do with this. As for other items with the same name but different levels, I do have examples of say Item:Tactics Signal (Artisan) vs Item:Tactics Signal (Master). They have the same name but are crafted in different tiers. Perhaps the same apply to your legendary items? When doing a search for Item:Tactics you should see all the signal pages or options. Rogue 21:56, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Scholar's armour recipes

Oops, will fix that. And fixed, thanks for the catch. Rogue 17:26, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Redirect Jeweller Pages

Go ahead and delete the redirects, really.. no reason to keep them unless they are linked somewhere. So if you fix all the links then no use for those redirects. Rogue 04:32, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Creature Template

Thanks for fixing that!!! We've been wanting it back the way it looked before the last wiki update (which is how it looks now thanks to you)!! Sweet deal! Rogue 16:10, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

IRC

Hey man, it would be great if you could join us on IRC sometime! :) There's usually always a few of us on there, and it helps to discuss changes and get answers to any questions we might have. If you need help figuring out how to get on there, just let me know. Cheers! --Fedaykin 14:34, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Standards

Hey are the captain standards correct from the trainer? Why I ask is I have all the standards created... Finely Woven ones that is... Armaments bottom of page ? Rogue 18:46, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

  • I'm not sure what to answer, I'm connected to the chatzilla now if need. I've used "slot = Ranged" instead of "slot = Class Slot" because I think it's the emblems that are using the class slot, but I'll add "first-category = Armaments". -- Goingbald 19:08, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Checking in the game, even all herald armaments are saying "Ranged", so to modify eventually I think; only the newer legendary items, like the reward Captain's Emblem, are for the class slot.

A "thank you"

Just saying thanks for updating the old craft critical items to their newer variations. That was driving me nuts before Kenji000 10:05, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Decoration Images

Name above the decoration is how I've been doing it, unlike the NPC images which require no name. Rogue 16:55, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Festival

I've been trying to update the NPC categories for events, festivals, etc... feel free to update the items to reflect what you did with Garden-Dwarf. So don't worry about the categories. Rogue 14:51, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

We prefer to have all outfits in the outfit window simply because it's a black background. It's much cleaner and less distracting. Rogue 14:51, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

No rings, i know this is a pain, but I've taken screenshots of all festival NPCs already. In photoshop I will crop and brighten them up and upload them, just haven't had time. I know people probably get frustrated when I do that. :) But those are the standards. Rogue 14:51, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

I don't like that category... where it is... because I did not do that with the other NPCs... they are all just in the Spring Festival NPCs category. I am tempted to tell you to just list the names... Rogue 06:08, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

The final promation

You now have the powers to promote folks to ninja's and admins. Please do work with Rogue or other admins including myself to do admin promotions. I must thank you for all your hard work on the wiki as you are playing a key role in making LOTRO a more enjoyable game and this website a great resource. --Lotroadmin 05:55, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Skirmish creatures

I saw your adaption of the adaption of the skirmish encounter creature stats table, and I really love it. Looks a lot better than my table. What do you think, shall I add it to all skirmish creatures? Not sure if the amount of power is of much use & don't have it for the mobs I already entered, but anyway, it looks fancy. And last, congrats with your promotion. --Ravanel 17:48, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

OK, I'll gradually remove the old tables and add your new one then, when I pass by them. I have tried and seen that the resistances and mitigations do change when you change tiers. However, their vulnerabilities stay the same, relatively spoken. I wouldn't know a system in which to show these differences and more important, I think it is incredibly much work and doesn't interest the viewers that much. So that's why I stuck to a table in the first place. Even if your lore-master isn't into skirmishes yet, you could help out with the morale/power for the tables of the already entered ones, if you wish. You can do that with every class. I'm trying to get all encounter mobs entered now first. Hopefully the tables can gradually fill themselves, like the soldier skills tables. I'm doing mostly tier 2 duo skirmishes in-game, so hopefully others will do solo skirmishes in my stead. --Ravanel 09:25, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Multiple output Recipes

Hey I noticed you are adding those multiple output recipes for Jeweller.... can you get me a screenshot of an example? I may be able to tweek the crafting template to reflect the changes but I won't know until I can see it. Thanks! Rogue 15:59, 25 August 2010 (EDT)

Nice work on the crafting indices

Thanks for your help polishing the standard of the crafting indices - I really like the results. I think we are really close to being able to get all the master recipe index pages standardised Gunsod 05:01, 23 October 2010 (EDT)

Reputation icons

What was wrong with the previous versions of the reputation and rep loss icons? I don't see the difference. --Snicker 00:50, 30 October 2010 (EDT)

Good on ya, then, Goingbald - I wasn't sure what the difference was, but as the wikigod says, if you can make it better, don't ask, just do it! --Snicker 12:26, 19 December 2010 (EST)

Frostbluff Coin

Thanks for the changes you made. It looks a whole lot better than what I was attempting to do.

Lots better! :)
