Note

This is what the creator would call a "sweet sixteen character", and many of his earlier decicions and personality traits were subject to god-awful roleplaying. Thus, his backstory has been largely retconned simply because said creator is too lazy, and too grown up invest the time necessary to grind a new character. Thank you.

Basic information

Fanthalion Goldenharp, (Fon-tha-lee-on) born roughly around 2500 TA, is a half silvan/half Noldorin hunter from the Wooldand Realm.

Physical Description: Fanthalion has strongly inherited his mother's lithe physique and agility, the bow being his weapon of choice. He is proficient with dual swords as well, but mainly relies on stealth and distance in combat situations. Despite his mostly silvan features, Fanthalion lacks the typical red hair of silvan elves, having a golden head of hair instead. Also his facial features are almost the spitting image of his father, although not quite as hard. He has a deep, melodious and charismatic voice inherited from his father.

Personality Description: Like most elves, Fanthalion is quite dignified and might come off as haughty to some. By non-elf standards, he is very wise and task-oriented, but the people who know him recognize his personal brand of very dry wit. Fanthalion's aforementioned dignified demeanor has it's limits, however, and he suffers from a somewhat uncharacteristic temper for an elf. He often resorts to lecturing others when annoyed, which often amuses his elders due to his youth and immaturity. Somewhat of a mix between his father's strict lawfullness and mother's restless soul, he is very family-oriented and dutiful but also has some minor difficulties with settling in one place for long. When need arises, however, Fanthalion is very dependable and fiercely protects those he loves.

Fanthalion isn't above some racist tendencies, and tends to act condescendingly toward other races; especially dwarves to the point of open hostility. He sometimes boasts about his relative immortality, much to the embarrassment of his elders. Sometimes older elves put him to his place by reminding him of his youth in public, a fact that annoys him to no end.

Because of his aforementioned youth, Fanthalion can be rash and impatient, often overestimating his own abilities and acting recklessly when in danger.

With all his flaws, he still has the best of intentions to begin with, but his hubris often overshadows his better qualities. His sense of superiority, ego and vanity have gradually mellowed down during the course of his adventures in Middle-Earth, but he never quite fully loses these traits.

Full biography

Early years

Fanthalion was born in Greenwood somewhere around 2500 of the Third Age to Valinol and Dessamier Goldenharp. Fanthalion possesses both Silvan and Noldorin blood and is somewhat more cultured than most of the elves of Mirkwood. Even if his father taught him about arts and music, Fanthalion chose to adapt to the ways of the woodland realm much to his father's dismay. This was a stain in Valinol's reputation, but earned him his mother's favor. Throughout his formative years darkness began to brew in Greenwood once more, and both of Fanthalion's parents offered their services to the land and had little time to care for their son. In order to keep the forces of Dol Guldur, mainly the Balcoth, at bay; they felt that Fanthalion had to be sent away somewhere safe until he was ready. He wound up serving the Dúnedain as a scout. His success was limited due to his recklessness, but did prove himself as a near-unrivaled archer thanks to his racial advantage.

Return to Greenwood and The Battle of Five Armies

By the time he had turned 100 years of age, Fanthalion reunited with his mother sometime around 2600. Dessamier had grown disillusioned by the war and showed little interest in her son. Crushed by this shocking revelation, and by the fact that the forest he once knew had begun to grow dark and fell, Fanthalion's relationship with his mother suffered. He quickly joined the archers of now-renamed Mirkwood in order to prove himself, and to attain glory.

About five hundred years had passed and Fanthalion had greatly matured, although not enough to be considered anyone important. He had grown a deep admiration toward king Thranduil and followed him blindly. The king never paid any attention to him, let alone knew that he even existed, and the young archer was sent to patrol the northern edges of the forest in case of trouble. This frustrated Fanthalion. When Thorin's company arrived in Mirkwood, Fanthalion was desperate to get a role at guarding the dwarves, and often pestered his superiors for the task in vain. One of the higher operatives even stated that Fanthalion's arrogance rivaled that of the dwarves. Over time Fanthalion gave up on his ambition and reluctantly settled for his usual duties. Fanthalion would participate the battle of five armies as an elven grunt and fared well. Despite receiving his first serious battle injury, he felled numerous orcs and goblins before reluctantly sitting the rest of the battle out. When the battle was over, he would spend a lot of time with his mother; rekindling their damaged relationship and finally beginning to understand each other. For some reason she never mentioned the existence of Nimila, Fanthalion's younger sister; or told him the reason of his father's departure from Mirkwood with his newfound little sister. She did reveal, however, that she believed they were still somewhere in Middle-Earth and thus, could be found. Determined to find them, Fanthalion packed what little he owned and set out for the west.

Arrival to Bree

60 years had passed and Fanthalion had started a new life as a drifter in Eriador. He did manage to discover his family and the four had a loving relationship. Fanthalion had set the village of Bree as the hub of his adventures while Valinol stayed in Ered Luin with Nimila and his mother performed military duties in Rhovanion. Despite their reluctant separation, Fanthalion managed to get acquainted with Kasaireth Yuchsiira and the two evevntually married; eventually siring one child.
