Bestowal dialogue

'Boromir is my name, and I have come from Minas Tirith by a long road on an urgent errand. The crossing of the river proved treacherous and I was forced to abandon my steed. I ran afoul of Orcs among the ruins, as you can see, and one of their cowardly thieves stole my pack. When I have recovered it, I will resume my quest.

'If you catch this thief for me I will be indebted to you, my good <race>.

'I think he ran off to the south-west.'

Background

Boromir, Captain of Gondor, has enlisted your aid to help him with the difficulties he encountered in Tharbad.

Objective 1

The Orc-thief that ran off with Boromir's pack is likely somewhere to the south-west of his position in Tharbad.

Boromir: 'I ran afoul of Orcs among the ruins, as you can see, and one of their cowardly thieves stole my pack. When I have recovered it, I will resume my quest. If you catch this thief for me I will be indebted to you.
'I think he ran off to the south-west.'
You recovered the stolen pack and should return it to Boromir

Objective 2

Boromir is to the north-east, in Tharbad, taking stock of the situation and planning his next steps.

Boromir: 'You must have struck into the heart of that thief, my new friend! This pack is much lighter than it was when he stole it, and it seems he scattered its contents among the ruins in his eagerness to escape.
'Might I trouble you to gather up my lost supplies?'

Objective 3

In his haste to escape, the Orc-thief tried to empty the stolen pack of some of its contents, which are now scattered to the west of Boromir's position in Tharbad.

Collected scattered supplies (3/3)

Objective 4

  • Bring the scattered supplies to Boromir at his position in Tharbad to the east

Boromir is to the east, in Tharbad, taking stock of the situation and planning his next steps.

Boromir: 'Thank you for this, my new friend! I am in your debt. Not only that, but I must beg your pardon, for I was so pleased to encounter a friendly face that I did not even ask your name! Pray tell it to me now, and forgive me the oversight. [Hobbit] Halflings are never seen in my homeland, and I was taken aback. But I meant no offence, and mean none now.
'<name>? It is my honour to make your acquaintance, <name>. You say your companions are nearby? I would join them at their fire, if you think I would be welcome. If not, I will continue on my own, but it has been a long road and I would not turn down a friendly camp-fire, and pleasing conversation.'

Objective 5

Boromir has agreed to return with you to meet your companions while he decides his next course.

Boromir: 'I would join you at your fire, if you think I would be welcome. If not, I will continue on my own, but it has been a long road and I would not turn down a friendly camp-fire and pleasing conversation.'
Meneldir leaps to his feet as you and Boromir approach

Objective 6

  • Talk to Meneldir on the northern bank of the Gwathló

Meneldir stares at Boromir with suspicion, his eyes narrowed.

Meneldir: 'Who have you found, <name>? Who comes so to our fire?
'I did not expect to see a soldier of the Citadel this far from his homeland.'
