Lore

Little is known about the monsters called "Dheghûn" by the Drúedain people. They are a species of Nameless Things, subterranean creatures of ancient evil that predate Sauron's entrance into Middle-earth. Specifically, the Dheghûn are classified as a breed of the Faceless, for they are blind and lack any eyes or facial features beyond a ravenous mouth. It is presumed that Gondorian miners delved too deep and released these creatures from their underground home. The darkness of the Dawnless Day unleashed by Sauron may have emboldened the Dheghûn to wander above ground, far from the cavernous regions where they once dwelt.
