Images

Thanks for taking the time to contribute to the wiki. I noticed your comments in your recent submission of Alchemist's Bookcase. We all feel nervous submitting our first article but after a few submissions it will feel like second nature. Don't worry about making a few mistakes at first, it's all part of the learning process.

One issue that I did notice, is that some of the images you submitted have floaty names on them. When submitting an image, remember to turn off all UI elements, see: Technique to Capture an Image. I will clean up any of the images that need it, so don't worry about resubmitting them. Snarpel (talk) 11:10, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

Heya, I just wanted to join in and say it's great that you're working on images! We have so many missing on the wiki (especially of new housing items, pets and cosmetics), so it's really awesome to see someone is working on them. Don't worry about experimenting with things. Working on a wiki can be very overwhelming and you'll learn a lot on the way. We old time contributors are always there if you have a question.
I also want to expand on what Snarpel said: the general rule is to take picture without UI elements (such as name tags), unless it's a housing decoration. Housing decoration all have nameplates: don't ask me why, it was decided to do it that way in the first year of this wiki (I wasn't around at the time), but it's probably best to keep doing it as opposed to doing it all over again!
Finally a tip: file names are usually the same as the item or place they're depicting. We generally don't need "LOTRO" in the name, because all the pictures on this wiki are from LOTRO! ;)
Hope this wasn't too overwhelming. Your contributions are very much appreciated. Keep rocking! --Ravanel (talk) 12:08, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Hmm. Looking at the decoration images, it looks like the newer images have been uploaded without name tags and the category is mixed with images with and without. That's what you get for not writing down rules I guess (not me, but those earlier contributors that passed down the message to me on IRC instead of having it written down somewhere). We should probably agree on one way of doing it and correct the not written down part. --Ravanel (talk) 12:27, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
First let me second what Ravanel said, there are a lot of missing images and its nice to see people working on them. You can find a lot of pages needing images here if you're interested.
On the subject of decoration labels, I'm not sure what the original logic was for this. Everything has a 'nameplate' (floaty text) so I'm not sure why housing decorations should be treated differently as they are using the same item template as other items and the name is prominently shown in the page title and also in the image gallery. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Snarpel (Contribs • User Talk) at 10:35, 8 July 2016.
I remember again why they had name tags! Some decorations look really dark and become much clearer when you click on them. Unfortunately, that has the side effect that the name tag also shows up. Either way, I've updated the boilerplate for item images to reflect what we discussed here. I could use your feedback on Talk:Boilerplate:Item#Gallery. :) --Ravanel (talk) 14:32, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
