Effects

Thanks for taking the time to update effects. However, why duplicate the pages that already exist? If there is a need to move existing pages to "X (Effect)" then we move, but we do not create a duplicate. Now I have made redirects of your new pages, to the existing pages. Please use search before creating duplicates. Or, please explain. -- Zimoon (talk) 13:11, 27 September 2012 (EDT)

It looks to me like Snarpel was creating the effects pages that go along with the skills. They are not duplicates, but rather effects caused by the skills, and often they have the same name so we have to add the disambiguation (Effect). (See Tale of Battle (Effect) for another example.) As far as I can see they were done quite right, so maybe Zimoon you could undo those redirects to the skill pages?
The only ones to be careful about are the effects for skills with multiple tiers, like Writs of Fire and Cold, since those already existed as Writ of Fire - Tier 1, etc. I'm not sure myself which way the game displays those, but whichever is right should be updated, and the other one deleted or redirected.
Thanks for your help with this! I've been (slowly) working on updating effects, but my highest RK is only up to level 31, so there's a lot about the class I still don't know. -- Elinnea (talk) 14:17, 27 September 2012 (EDT)
If so I am most embarrassed and humbly propose a apology. Then, since the effects are "tiered" I suggest those should be named following the skill names, such as "Abc - Tier 1 (Effect)" as they indeed have different power. The basic "Abc (Effect)" may still be a redirect but to the first tier, right?
Again. My apologies. -- Zimoon (talk) 14:31, 27 September 2012 (EDT)
All my meddling is now undone, I hope. Please consider the name change proposed above. Alternatively one page but without fixed values in the box but "X" as used elsewhere for effects, and a table displaying the different versions of the effect. I believe Elin may give the best advice on this matter, right? -- Zimoon (talk) 17:57, 27 September 2012 (EDT)

Thanks for you many good submissions and that you carefully are polishing as well small as big items. You are promoted to ninja. -- Zimoon (talk) 13:51, 1 October 2012 (EDT)

I've bumped your to Admin rank so you can delete the spam pages. Thanks for all your contributions --Lotroadmin (talk) 01:37, 20 July 2013 (EDT)

Scholar Indexes

Whoops! It looks like you've updated the Westfold index with a lot of Eastemnet information. I can rollback the edit you made, but I'd hate for you to have to rewrite all of the text for it. Do you think you could go back and copy all the level 85 info from the Westfold page, then let me know so I can roll it back? Great info, just wanna make sure it's in the right place :) Garabrand (talk) 09:42, 12 December 2012 (EST)

Well spotted and thanks. I've rolled back the changes

Improved Song of Restoration

Hiya! Regarding this edit, is it possible that you've confused the Improved version with Song of Restoration? From my screenshots, the improved version does indeed have the 15m radius in the tooltip. Could you double-check and rollback as appropriate? Thanks! Sethladan 14:54, 9 March 2013 (EST)

Hi. I don't have a minstrel myself but I was told by one of my kinship officers that the improved skill did not have a radius effect and I tool him at his word (he is an officer). I will roll back the change. Thanks
No problem. The skill got changed with Update 10 (it used to dispel Dread within a radius) but the tooltip still has the tag on it. My guess is the change was rushed and someone over at Turbine is still trying to figure out what to do with the skill (right now I don't think there's any difference between the normal and improved version, but not sure yet). Thanks for taking another look! Sethladan 12:31, 10 March 2013 (EDT)

Spelling

Hi! Just wanted to mention I moved/edited a couple of pages you've created recently - you've been spelling lightning as lightening. Just wanted to let you know, so you can keep an eye out/aren't confused why I edited them.  :)

Following the same thread ...

I see that you are the reason that I thought my eyes and brain were playing tricks on me. (or at least my browser cache)... :)

I was answering the T6 Scholar thread and could have sworn that the NPC Expert Scholar article included the T6 listing... Then after I did a bit of research visiting the Scholar in Snowbourn, I went back to check again... and it wasn't there!!!

Then this morning, I saw your post :)

Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 10:41, 28 March 2013 (EDT)

Always remember the first rule of Wiki: if you think you're going mad, look at the history :)
The points you made on the forum are similar to what I said but in more detail so needless to say I agree with what you say. Looking to the future, it might be an idea to help prevent this kind of scenario in future, to have some kind of periodic review process that revisits popular topics like crafting that see a lot of visible changes, say every twelve months, and verifies the content is still valid might.
p.s. it's not only Editors who discover new information, lowly Ninjas have been known to do it as well —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Snarpel (Contribs • User Talk) at 1:53, 28 March 2013‎.

In reality, Crafting is one of the more heavily "watched" topics -- several (lowercase)editors are interested in the topic. ... However, its problem is that it is also one of the largest and most fluid topics! Especially with all of the stat changes that Turbine is constantly making to gear! It would be wonderful if we had some mechanism to compare the various items in our database with those in the Lorebook. (Which is actually another Media-Wiki.) The only issue is that, at least currently, the Lorebook is "not quite" in-sync with in-game... primarily with things missing. The links between data.lotro.com and the Lorebook were broken back when Rise of Isengard was released, and they have never "filled in the holes." (nor commented on the problem.)

Would something like this have been caught by such a comparison -- probably not, as the Lorebook doesn't list things the way we do. And this is one of those changes which Turbine "slipped in" when nobody noticed... i.e. it never made it into the Release Notes, except as a "They're BAACK" note, without mentioning that the were gone in the first place!

Of course on this same topic, more or less, The Store now offers "recipe books" by Tier, instead of individual recipes! Another one of those changes which "just happened." And, I haven't looked, but we used to itemize recipes available from the Store, which all need to be removed now and replaced by these recipe books. (Of course being able to itemize the contents of the books might be nice....) A related question becomes... if you buy a book of single use recipes, how often can those recipes be used! I know it sounds somewhat incongruous a question to ask, but the "I paid real TP for this" argument has surprisingly altered some of Turbine's attitudes on things. And the truly annoying thing is ... WE (lotro-wiki folk) have to spend our own hard-earned TP to find out the answers!

Merge

It seems that my understanding of the meaning of the {{Merge}} template has been somewhat flawed. I had been under the impression that it meant 'produce a single page taking what is best from the two tagged pages', but what it actually means is 'keep the page created by the more senior person and delete the other page (even if it has better structure and was created first)'. Thanks to RingTailCat for clarifying that for me.

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Snarpel (Contribs • User Talk) at 2013-04-04T08:32:15.
I'm going to assume you are talking about the way I handled the duplicate pages for Update 10.1, Official - April 3 2013 patch notes. This is one situation where you don't get to be creative. Patch notes are copied from the Turbine release notes without textual modifications. We add markup to achieve the same table of contents as appears on the Turbine site, and we make links, where we can, to pages on our wiki. For instance, we do not fix Turbines spelling mistakes, although we may add HTML comments such as <!--sic-->. There were no links added to text on your version of the page. I chose the version that most closely matched the TOC as it appears on the Turbine site. I pulled the source for both pages into Notepad++ and used the Compare plugin to establish that the only differences between the pages was the heading markup.
If your comments relate to another change, please provide links to the page. Remember that nothing is every truly deleted. The contents of deleted pages can always be recovered, unless the system owner does something special. If I have mistakenly deleted a page that contained content that should have been merge, I will restore it myself, without hesitation. And offer my humble apology for the oversight.
- RingTailCat (talk) 01:57, 5 April 2013 (EDT)
Thanks for the clarification on this as I was not aware of the 'no corrections' policy. I have up to now fixed spelling/grammar mistakes that I encountered on any skill/item descriptions. I will take a look through my contributions and make sure they match up with Turbines version.
- Snarpel (talk) 15:52, 5 April 2013 (EDT)
The release notes represent a situation different from in-game text. In this case, we are actually reproducing a page from Turbine's web site so that we can increase it's value to our visitors by linking to other pages on our wiki. If we didn't do that value-add, we could just as well provide a link to Turbine's lorebook release notes page.
Dealing with text presented to us while we play the game is a different situation. There are differing opinions among the various editors. I can really only speak of what I do (and that seems to change from day to day). In some cases, I have left in-game text unmodified; in others I have repaired spelling and/or grammar errors. Often it depends on whether I can copy/paste the text from the game to the wiki page or have to transcribe it. It is always correct to /bug report the problem; maybe it will get fixed. It's always a good idea to mark errors, either corrected or uncorrected, by adding an HTML comment in the wiki text indicating that you noticed the error but left it in, or fixed it. That way future editors are kept informed.
I would suggest that you don't need to worry too much about already completed pages. Unless you really want too, of course. In any case, keep up the good work!

Harbringer's Cloak

I notice you created the Harbringer's Cloak page. Did you perhaps mean to make one for the Harbinger's Cloak? -- JnK (talk) 15:12, 31 May 2013 (EDT)

Yes indeed, well spotted. It seems I have been misspelling this word my whole life *blushes*

New Trait Template

I thought I'd jump on the tooltip bandwagon and have created a new Trait template with tooltip support in my sandbox. It takes the same parameters as the original Template:Infobox Trait and uses the same category assignment logic. There is an example here User:Snarpel/Sandbox-Mystifying_Flame-Test. I'm having a problem with it though, which someone may be able to help with. The category assignment logic is a pretty standard series of switches that parse the parameters and assign the trait to multiple categories. The problem is there is a spurious line break being generated at the end of the output which you can see in the test. I've played with this template endlessly reorganising and restructuring but cannot figure where the line break is coming from.

I don't do templates, so I can't be much help... however, I will say that "blank lines" have been a constant problem for people working templates in the past.
As I recall, these are caused by two things -- blanks in the template itself AND blanks in the usage. For Example.... nestling the "__NOTOC__<onlyinclude>{{Skill" together on one line creates a different result than putting them on separate lines, OR in a different order! The same is true of the end "}}</onlyinclude>" I don't know the reason why this is true, it is obviously an artifact of the template coding, but that is all I know.
  • BTW: You should create the documentation of your effort as you progress
I should add you should simply transclude your template/doc file into the boilerplate page.
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 00:24, 9 July 2013 (EDT)
I will ask Elinnea‎ and Goingbald as suggested and create the other support files. Thanks -- Snarpel (talk) 14:20, 10 July 2013 (EDT)
Hm, indeed, extra blank lines are the bane of my existence with templates. Would you mind if I play around with your template, to see if I can find where it's coming from? (Probably later today, since I'm actually at work right now...) I like your initiative by the way. :) -- Elinnea (talk) 15:33, 10 July 2013 (EDT)
Please be my guest and thanks :) Snarpel (talk) 15:59, 10 July 2013 (EDT)
I think I found the sources of the blank lines. Does it look like how you want it now? There's still an issue with an extra space after an imlink mode page link, but I guess that's across all tooltip pages as Magill brought up at Template talk:Tooltip#Trailing space in display. -- Elinnea (talk) 19:40, 10 July 2013 (EDT)
Strange, I could have sworn I made those changes at some stage. Thanks again 😊 -- Snarpel (talk) 20:38, 10 July 2013 (EDT)
No more fix to do, it seems as expected? Grats! :) Yes, that strange space in every use of imlink, strange, noticed with Reward few months ago, couldn't figure... --Goingbald (talk) 23:05, 10 July 2013 (EDT)
As I started over at Template_talk:Tooltip#Staying_on_the_same_page..._Skill.2FEffect.2FTrait_.5B.5B_.5D.5D_vs_.7Cmode.3Dimlink.7D.7D I have just realized that:
  1. Trait is an Infobox, while the Skill and Effect are direct templates.
  2. Trait uses "| image = ...-icon.png" vs "|icon = -icon"
  • Is calling it an "Infobox" simply a naming convention or does it imply a call to some functionality?
Can we just change it to "{{Trait"? --- (Pushing for consistency in naming/documentation, etc.)
It would go into [[Category: General Wiki Templates‎]] alongside Skill and Effect, etc.
  • Changing the "image" parameter to "icon" is easily enough done, both could even be allowed in the template -- although I would prefer we replace the use of image with icon. I believe in the Skill and Effect templates, the ".png" is automatically understood (i.e. appended) as the image files for all 3 are all "-icon.png"
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 02:23, 11 July 2013 (EDT)
I think you are looking at the old code and not the new Trait. I didn't have it in the General Wiki Templates‎ category (fixed) which is probably what confused you. -- Snarpel (talk) 07:35, 11 July 2013 (EDT)
On a totally separate note... I have the bot running... now I just have to figure out how to specify the changes.
Making progress: It says here in the fine print -- that the 3 templates and their related "parts" have all been "updated." i.e. matched to transclude the "/doc" file for documentation. Boilerplates still need a bit of work.

The only really weird thing I have noted: the "skills-earned" parameter displays in strange colors depending upon context. It "should" display in purple, but it displays in white in the ToolTip, and in Blue in my example...!

Prep work for Changes
  • Template: Skill has been modified to provide a pop-up tool-tip and other features. - Updated
  • All template components have been updated and matched.
  • Template: Effect has been modified to provide a pop-up tool-tip and other features. - Updated
  • All template components have been updated and matched.
  • Template: Trait not to be confused with Template:Traits has been modified to provide a pop-up tool-tip and other features. - Updated
  • Next step is to figure out useful syntax for botting.
  • Fixing the basic template usages seems to be working out ... just almost as tedious as doing it by hand ... have to babysit the run and to reject a lot of "false positives." All deal with .png entries in the File parameters...
  • In general, I have not figured out a rational way to combine the various [[File...]] || [[thing...]] into {{: xxx|mode=imlink}} entries. Far too many potential variables to automate the process. This is what generates the false positives.

Please look things over and let me know if you find any nasties. I'll probably do the bot run tonight.

Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 18:26, 15 July 2013 (EDT)
Well one nasty I noticed is you broke the Trait template in your last change. You moved the <includeonly> tag to include the trait description stuff that shouldn't be included. Not sure why you did this as it's immediately apparent on testing the template.
With regards the incorrect colour on the 'skills-earned' tag it seems to be working fine for me see User:Snarpel/Sandbox-Trait-Test and User:Snarpel/Sandbox-Trait1. Myabe you're thinking for the other templates.
I not sure what kind of false positives you're getting with the replacements. Probably simplest of you read page into one large string and try a regular expression replace with newline as an optional something like:
 search: \[\[File.*?\]\]\s*(\r\n)*\s*\|\s*(\r\n)*\s*\[\[(.*?)\]\]
 replace: {{:\3}}

-- Snarpel (talk) 21:52, 15 July 2013 (EDT)

Hmmm... I see the skills-earned (steady hands) and requires: (cleansing fires) in White on both of your test pages. Any text NOT in the "mode=link" section displays with the correct color. Note that the Skill template displays correctly Steady Hands, but not the Trait page: User:Snarpel/Sandbox-Trait1 - the page Mystifying Flame is the same. (look at the Page displays, as well as the pop-ups.)

Will have to play a bit more with the "Trait Information" section -- it is now suppressed completely. See: Testatrait it has values supplied for all parameters ... or are you saying that those parameters don't belong in the template at all and should be deleted?

| dp-cost = 99
| com-cost = 35
| sig-cost = 36
| sigb-cost = 37
| sigbg-cost = 38
| min-rank = 4

The logic has problems. That last section is probably completely out of place .. But I don't really know what the intent is here... so I just caused them to display as the template implied. I suspect that trait information lines at the bottom of the template belong further up the page where the "if virtue" statement is.

Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 22:58, 15 July 2013 (EDT)
ok, fixed the color problem with "skills-earned" -- use <li class="darkorchid" instead of trying to define color using style.
The problem with Mystifying Flame has to do with the fact that the "requires" parameter is a string with an embedded [[ ]].
You can get the pop-up (but not the correct color) for the embedded Distracting Flame by coding {{: |mode=link}}
To get the pop-up in Skill Steady Hands to work correctly requires that the "trait-required" line in the Skill be coded {{: |mode=link}}

With regard to skills-earned, I thought you were referencing to the label not the text. Sorry
The template logic was indeed flawed. After taking a few minutes to think about how <includeonly> was working during the transclusion of the trait into the parent page and the subsequent transclusion of the template into the trait I changed the trait so everything is includeonly except for the docs and category. The category and trait information will now generate if FULLPAGENAME = disambigpage i.e. on the trait page itself. I did find one anomaly though. The expansion of the '==' for the trait information is surpressed for some reason. I worked around it by using <h2> tags instead which seems to work.
The test page  Testattrait Testattrait now looks correct. -- Snarpel (talk) 12:19, 16 July 2013 (EDT)

Tiered items

Morning! Saw you created pages Item:Dwarf Steel Breastplate (Level 44) & Item:Dwarf Steel Breastplate (Level 41)‎ and the same level differences for Dwarf Steel Boots. Just wanted to draw your attention to Category:Item Level .... When items tier up its less confusing to have one page for the item itself with a chart/table depicting the slight level differences. Happy editing! :) --Savi (talk) 13:00, 30 September 2013 (EDT)

Sorry for the delayed answer, been pretty busy recently. You're right of course, this should be done in a manner similar to what you suggest. Will revisit this at some stage, but I think we'll all be busy with more important things for a while. Snarpel (talk) 18:25, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Renaming of Nadhin Shoulders

Thanks for getting this started --
In this particular situation, the entire naming issue is still fluid, with certain conflicts only emerging when the Update went live. It's still a rats nest.

Hashadir

I noticed you have created a number of quests in Hashadir, which I do not recall from the Beta.

Are these City Watch Quests? or simply added quests. If they are City Watch quests they need to be identified as such – somehow, possibly by faction? I'm still recording quests in Lamedon so I haven't gotten that far yet.

Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 22:38, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
Yes, these are the city watch quests, and you're right it's probably not the best naming convention. Using the faction names gleamed from the associated deeds as questgroup, e.g. 'Dol Amroth - City Watch - Library Quests' might be better with a overall category of 'Dol Amroth - City Watch - Quests' containing them all (replacing the existing 'Dol Amroth Faction Quests') Snarpel (talk) 21:21, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
No we have 3 different Versions of this kind of Quests (Quest:Tol Fennas - Corsair Craftsmen , Quest:Turtles in the Depths and Quest:Hashadir: Captains of the Crew). I would prefer the first one. Barny (talk) 08:44, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
You're referring to quest titles here which is different issue to grouping. Since we follow Turbine's naming conventions for quest titles, there are in reality only types here: right and wrong. The Hashadir quests are currently in the latter category, which I will fix and thanks for spotting this Snarpel (talk) 17:14, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Essences

Looking at the changes you made to Greater Essence of Tactical Mastery and Supreme Essence of Tactical Mastery we seem to be operating under different premises regarding Greater and Supreme essences availability from drops. My understanding based on reading Galuhad's guide on the forum and from other sources, is that Greater and Supreme essences can only be got, either from crafting with the recipes purchased from the Dol Amroth quartermaster, which give a tier 7 (100) result, or by purchasing from the essences quartermaster who only becomes active at player level 100 and presumably only gives items of that level i.e. tier 7. If you know this to be untrue and have seen them at lower tiers then let me know. Snarpel (talk) 01:52, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I've only applied the same layout from other essences, but maybe the table could be removed if the Supreme ones are only at level 100. All the data I've entered so far is solely from what was available at the auction house, not been to Western Gondor yet! :) -- Goingbald (talk) 16:44, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

On Deleting Spam

Hi there! Before you delete a spam page, be sure to delete whatever is in the content box to make sure that the spam doesn't get copied back into the site. With your recent delete, the content of the spam page is still displayed (i.e. "...deleted page User:Shalleelanru5 ‎(Spam: content was: Felony Rules blah blah blah")). Starbursty (talk) 16:10, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

You need to bear in mind that the spam bots that create these pages, create the user account and spam together in a completely automated process. They do this across thousands of wiki sites/blog sites/facebook pages etc, probably using hijacked PC's, and then move on to the next advert in their database and repeat the process. If a bot script did have the ability to detect that its content had been deleted it would simply recreate it using the mechanism above. Snarpel (talk) 13:48, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

LoL- EU (UK) vs USA date format

LoL - I see you prefer the US date format -- month, day, year to the European version - day, month year.
I don't know if you are or were aware of the difference in the international date standards, however both formats are considered "standards" and "correct."
FWIW - If you have ever been to the UK -- NEVER make reservations in numeric form! Especially if the month and or day number is a single digit.
I got caught on that a couple of years ago when my wife made reservations for some location in London for the 9th of August, via a typed letter, as 8/9/xx and we received a similarly typed confirmation -- when we arrived for our stay we were told, "no room in the Inn," that our reservation was made for the next month, the 8th of September!
That is also why Web Sites and similar data collection points use drop-down menus or scroll-wheels rather than accept dates as free-form entries.
I don't really care which format is used and it doesn't make much difference when the month is spelled out. I simply continue that format as the WIKI uses "English Spelling" in tribute to Tolkien. Only underneath, in the Category, do we revert to the US standard sequence.
All in all, it is not a big deal, just "another one of those things."
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 15:28, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Nope, not really, I'd prefer it if nobody used either format but I'll come back to that in a minute :D
There was a bit of a comedy of errors here from both of us today. I'm sure you've noticed there are two versions of the patch document now, the one you had pre-cooked and ready for editing, and the one I created today by following the link on the patch page. I actually remembered something like this happening to us before, so I put an under-construction stub up for my page, which doesn't help a lot when you're editing a different page LoL.
When I looked in [[Category: Patches]] and seen the two versions, I thought that it was my document that wasn't named consistently so I renamed yours by mistake (doh). Anyway, I've updated Patches to point at your version and deleted mine
We should pick a standard naming scheme for future releases using either 'Update n.m - ' or 'Update n.m,' format and document it. The issue of US vs. UK date format doesn't really arise as we are spelling out the month name in the category as well Snarpel (talk) 19:36, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thank you for updating the Bugud1.jpg picture I uploaded earlier.

I'll use it as the template for the conditions you need for pictures on the Wiki - lightness etc.

I am quite impressed how you removed the Quest Ring and the name of Bugud above the image of him without it looking like it was ever there! Photoshop greatness! But I'd still like to know how you did it. :)

Thanks again!

I didn't adjust the brightness at all, it was fine. If I ever do need to adjust brightness I usually just increase the exposure and then increase blacks in Photoshop Camera Raw before I open the image.
I got rid of the ring with the spot healing brush and the text with a combination of the spot healing brush followed by the clone stamp tool to copy the lower part of the banner over the part that was missing and then clone stamp tool again to correct some of the blurring on the background from the healing brush.
As a general rule, if anyone has a hard-to-get image (that took a long time to set-up) with only minor problems like the ones above you can upload the image and flag it as needing some correction in the talk page. More major problems like taking the image in third person or failing to turn off the UI can not normally be corrected.
p.s. don't forget your sig with ~~~~ :) Snarpel (talk) 13:48, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Reused names

Thanks for the heads-up on the reused names and not linking to the wrong MOB. Was trying to make all the warbands have consistent information, so I'll try to doublecheck links from now on. Oy.

Duplicate pages

I've noticed that there are several pages on warbands. There are three choices that come up when you type "Warbands" in the search box: Warbands which contains information only on the West Gondor warbands, Warbands: West Gondor's Roaming Enemies (for the deed, but I'm assuming the title should contain "Deed") and Warbands II: Wildermore's Roaming Enemies which is also for a deed, but the title doesn't contain that. There is a fourth page that actually contains info on the Warbands in all of the areas called Category: Warband Quests which actually contains the information that I was looking for when I searched. Someone with better skills/access than mine needs to merge or link these pages--I'm willing to do it, but I don't know which way that it should be handled. At present it's confusing.--Gwilliwen (talk) 02:07, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

I'm guessing that you simply managed to be scrolled down to the bottom of the page when you looked at the page.
  • Warbands: West Gondor's Roaming Enemies and Warbands II: Wildermore's Roaming Enemies are both titles of individual deeds and named as found in-game.
  • "(deed)" is only appended when there are multiple pages with the same name, typically a quest. Most deeds do not have it appended.
  • The individual deeds are linked back to the Category pages by navigating to the Objectives and the category links at the bottom of those pages. Generally speaking, when people wind up on deed pages, they have come there as a "conclusion" to a search, not a starting point.

Some helpful person must have changed this, as this was not the page that I referenced before. The page listed under Warbands as it is now is precisely the page I wanted to get to when I typed "Warbands" into the search box. What was showing up before was an entirely different page, with a commentary on warbands and listing just the warbands of West Gondor. It was a very short page. Just glad things got sorted.

Oh, and thanks for the info. More information means more intelligence available when editing.

Odd... I remember looking at the Warbands page over the last few days and like Gwilliwen only seeing the West Gondor warbands listed. After looking at the version logs for the Category:Warband Quests and Warbands pages, I'm not sure how this was possible since the first has (unsurprisingly) had the Rohan warbands long before the Gondor ones, and the second has been transcluding from the category page since 3 May 2013‎ Snarpel (talk) 21:27, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Automatic category link appearing where I don't want it

I've been putting in map refs to the warbands and creating links for "Small Fellowship," "Fellowship," and "Raid," on the Warband Quest pages in the infobox. (I figure "Solo" is self-explanatory, so no link there.) Trouble is that something is automatically adding a category link at the top of the page when I put in the links to the definitions. Don't know how to fix it and I really don't want to take out the links if I can help it. Any idea how to get rid of this auto inclusion or how to move it to the bottom of the page where the others are? Or if you don't, do you know someone who might?

If no one knows, I'll change everything back.--Gwilliwen (talk) 05:46, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

The issue here was the 'Quest Infobox' template was using the -fellowshiptype parameter to construct a category entry but since the parameter was already a link it ended up being rendered as text i.e. [[[[Category: Raid Quest]]]].
And the morale of the story is use templates the way they are documented until you are very familiar with how they work Snarpel (talk) 15:44, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Template:Verified

Not sure if you've been busy over the past two days or so or just not keeping an eye on your watchlist, but I don't want you missing out on any chances to keep up with your baby - a few ideas and changes getting tossed around on the talk page. Sethladan 00:09, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Strange rendering problem

I did a search for 'captain emblem' using Firefox and the rendering is all messed up. It renders just fine on Chrome and Internet Explorer and it only seems to be happening for this one search result. It seems the "mw-panel" div (containing the side menu is having a 200px increment added to its "left" attribute and 135px to its "top". Setting left to "-200px" and top to "-135px" using web developer/inspector puts it back where it should be. Same with the header and namespace. It seems on initial analysis to be a Firefox bug and not a problem with the CSS Snarpel (talk) 14:05, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

We've seen this on occasion in the past; I think there's some discussion on one of Lotroadmin's archives somewhere. I don't remember if we were ever able to isolate it, but it seemed to come only on certain searches for certain people on certain browsers. Thanks for doing the research on it and definitely keep tabs on if you notice it getting better or worse/continuing. Sethladan 18:36, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Outfit Preview

Hi, I'm curious about your 3 latest uploads for the 'Robe of the Autumn Sun', how can you get a big preview like that, with black background and room around the image? The "Character" has some background color & the "Dressing Room" window is so small... Is it some kind of "plugin"? -- Goingbald (talk) 04:22, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

I use this skin collection, and one of the nice features of the skins is a larger costume preview pane. The particular skin I used here is "B.G.M *Opaque*", I'm not sure if the other skins give a black background or not. Snarpel (talk) 12:37, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

Look who's back

Mae govannen! Since I sold my PC a while back, I haven't really been able to play the game or contribute anything to these hallowed halls, hence my prolonged absence. I tried playing on my old laptop but it just overheated, that is until I got myself a new laptop cooler last week which works a treat. Might not be able to contribute much for a while , as I learn the ropes again and see what has changed, but should be back contributing again pretty soon. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Snarpel (Contribs • User Talk) at 23 June 2016.

Decoration/Item images

Heya. Following our discussion on User talk:Whirr#Images I've added something about images on the item boilerplate. It was missing altogether, so no wonder there is much confusion over this! Feel free to check Talk:Boilerplate:Item and provide feedback. :) --Ravanel (talk) 14:36, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
