Legendary Items

Hi! I see you're making one page for each of the LIs - that's freaking awesome, we've needed that for a long while. But you haven't been adding them to the Category:Legendary Items subcategories - did you miss the category, or are you choosing not to add them there? I've been trying to clean up the LI page, and need to know if I should remove the link to the categories. Thanks! -- Kadi (talk) 05:25, 13 February 2013 (EST)

Hi, thanks for pointing to these categories, I forgot to check how these were grouped, I'll add another line for the correct class of LIs and clean up other iterations with a level in an easier way, after adding damage & DPS! :) -- Goingbald (talk) 23:53, 14 February 2013 (EST)

U11- Yellow Trait Tree changes for War-steeds

Please see discussion at: Talk:War-steed Traits. I have begun building a page of "stuff" User:Magill/Projects-Update 11-LM-mounted-companion trying to capture the information being presented. Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 10:22, 10 May 2013 (EDT)

Skill Template Edits

I'm glad you're working on implementing the tooltip and popup ability to the skill template, that's something I've wished for for a long time. But I notice you also removed the lines I just added to the skill cost/type section. Was that intentional? Now the blank cost lines are showing up on all the skill pages. -- Elinnea (talk) 19:15, 24 June 2013 (EDT)

Please see:User_talk:Elinnea#Fix_for_Template_Skill -- Do you do bots? With RTC now on "occasional" status I don't know who else does.
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 23:53, 28 June 2013 (EDT)
I wish I could, any good reference on how to do that? --Goingbald (talk) 12:46, 29 June 2013 (EDT)
We've been talking about it over at User_talk:Barny#Any_tips_on_tedious_wiki_edits.3F and the following section.
  • See the notes over at Elinnea's talk page -- there are several fields which are not being processed by the template -- The logic makes no sense to me.
I've basically been documenting the template and preparing for a bot run.

Trait template

Just in case you missed my question here I decided to ask a couple of people directly. Basically I'm having a problem with my new tooltip enabled Trait template which is keeping it in the sandbox. It keeps putting a spurious line break in the generated output and I can't figure out where it is coming from. User:Magill suggested that this problem has been seen before so I was wondering if maybe you can offer some insight?

Scroll of X Recipe Names

We seem to be in disagreement over what the correct recipe name for 'Scroll of X' consumables should be. I'm referring to the change you made of renaming Scroll of Eastemnet Battle Lore Recipe to Item: Eastemnet Battle Lore Recipe removing the Scroll of from the name. I argue that it should be included since crafter's use recipes to create tangible items and Item: Scroll of Eastemnet Battle Lore refers to a tangible object, whereas Eastemnet Battle Lore refers to something abstract. To take another example, would it make sense to rename Item: Supreme Dagor Infused Parchment Recipe to Supreme Dagor Infused Recipe?

Since both naming schemes are currently in use, I would be grateful if someone would make a decision on which scheme should be used. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Snarpel (Contribs • User Talk) at 11:30, 1 August 2013‎.

I believe that historically the Recipes had the "Scroll of" removed from their name. Thus leaving the output to have the "Scroll of" prefix.
Look at Category: Scholar Recipes -- there are over 200, looks like about 400 "name" recipes and about 100 "Scroll of" recipes. You will note also that the side effect of naming everything "Scroll of" recipe would put them all in one bucket under "S". Just looking quickly at the other Crafting Recipe categories Category: Crafting Recipes, neither Cook nor Tailor have any "Scroll of" recipes.
I just spotted a similar problem tonight with Category: Mount Appearance Traits - most of these are clearly "Items" not "Traits." While it might be argued that Bay War-steed is a trait, Bone Caparison is clearly an Item.
I suspect that "Trait" was used because the "type" keyword for trait gives "Mount Appearance" in Green while the Item keyword is in white. However, using Trait eliminates all cost references. Similarly, without looking, one assumes that part of the reason was because the in-game tool-tip uses the phrase "Baring Trait".
I haven't looked to see if this discussion took place somewhere, or if a random decision was made and then just propagated.

Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 20:26, 3 August 2013 (EDT)
Hmmm, I didn't think of how the recipe is named once in the Crafting Panel, those I've renamed were not reading "Scroll of" from the Eastemnet Miscellany Quartermaster, same for the Wildermore's reputation guy Hunman, so I'd be tempted to rename too those Item:Scroll of Riddermark Battle Lore Recipe & Item:Scroll of Riddermark Warding Lore Recipe... -- Goingbald (talk) 21:31, 4 August 2013 (EDT)

Hey

Hello Goingbald, I was hoping you can send me a private message with your email. --Lotroadmin (talk) 01:42, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Ettenmoors Titles

Thanks for the help with that haha! I recently started fixing this wiki, it's sad to see it not in prime condition! If it were, then maybe it would give some better help to newer people:) I noticed you have a lot of experiecne on this site, mind helping me out a bit and showing me the ropes? My email is daltonbeta1@gmail.com if you want to get in contact with me. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Goblinazz (Contribs • User Talk) at 10:03, 21 May 2014‎.

Full Powers

I just wanted to let you know you have a few more powers! You have been a stable to this website, for that I thank you. You already had all the needed powers but there were just a few more. --Lotroadmin (talk) 06:16, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Set Information section for item tooltip

Is this something you'd like to have? You might be able to do {{#ifeq: {{{disambigpage}}} | {{PAGENAME}} | === Set Information === etc...}} to prevent it from showing up on other pages (although part of me thinks it might not be good practice to have a lot of stuff outside the tooltip box).

If it was working before and I broke it, sorry! Sethladan 10:03, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

It's OK, it was attempted a long time ago, it should have been removed but was now showing when transcluded in Armour Sets. I'm wondering if Item Sets should be merge with Armour Sets (Level 1-84) Index... Would it be too icon-crowdy if pieces were all shown on the set page, like on User:Goingbald/Sandbox/Armour Sets, Burglar section? -- Goingbald (talk) 02:57, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
That might be a little too item-crowdy, indeed. Also, I worry that maybe we'd eventually run into a problem as those lists get longer and longer. What about just listing the items using plain wikilinks instead of {{Reward}} (since you still get a tooltip pop-up when you link to an item: Hood)?
I'm not sure about combining those item set pages - my first reaction is to suggest doing the opposite: Divide the armour set pages according to class. If you have an idea for how to combine them then definitely go ahead and try, though. I know you're good with organization, so I am curious to see how you'll do it. Essences

Looking at the changes you made to Greater Essence of Tactical Mastery and Supreme Essence of Tactical Mastery we seem to be operating under different premises regarding Greater and Supreme essences availability from drops. My understanding based on reading Galuhad's guide on the forum and from other sources, is that Greater and Supreme essences can only be got, either from crafting with the recipes purchased from the Dol Amroth quartermaster, which give a tier 7 (100) result, or by purchasing from the essences quartermaster who only becomes active at player level 100 and presumably only gives items of that level i.e. tier 7. If you know this to be untrue and have seen them at lower tiers then let me know. Snarpel (talk) 01:52, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I've only applied the same layout from other essences, but maybe the table could be removed if the Supreme ones are only at level 100. All the data I've entered so far is solely from what was available at the auction house, not been to Western Gondor yet! :) -- Goingbald (talk) 16:44, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
Yes it seems the supreme ones are craft only and therefore not tiered but like you say that's just guessing. We'll just have to keep our eye open as always.
p.s. You should definitely take a ride to Dol Amroth when you have a chance, it's quite beautiful :) Snarpel (talk) 00:27, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Fjori

When I added/changed those table headers, I was copying right from the guy's inventory in the game. It doesn't matter to me how they look if you prefer the more clear version; I just didn't want you to feel like I was tearing up your work on the page. Sethladan 07:19, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

TY :D

Thanks for updating the Champion section, I did the best I could but without access to a high-level character it was a little roughshod / quick & dirty. But I just wanted to clean up that poor page, which was a total mess and really off-putting to a new vistor.

But yeah, I'm really glad someone's making the info more accurate. TY ^^ Lovestar (talk) 05:22, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

I was curious how the skills were now acquired when seeing these 'Default Skills', so I started that champion earlier this week that just reached 10 and was surprised that the class trainer now becomes useless, previously skills were bought from them, but now they are really 'free' or acquired from the skills tree. I don't think I'll restart more toons to see more default skills, but could contribute on skills trees, if modified with the latest update. Glad to see new helpers around, have fun updating the wiki! :) -- Goingbald (talk) 05:35, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
The one good thing about class trainers is that they show you what "default skills" you'll get as you level, even if you do eventually get them for free. (Or at least they did - did Turbine change this?) I took advantage of this by creating one of every class and just parking it in front of a trainer in case I need to check something. Sethladan 16:44, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
Ah good, I didn't think to uncheck "Show Only Trainable Skills", yes they are still showing, thanks for the tip! :) I'm wondering now to show again where to find the skills in the "Active" tab, like the Champion's branches "Building the Fervour", "Engage the Tide", "Never Falter" or "Toe to Toe", a new parameter on the skill page? -- Goingbald (talk) 00:34, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Moria Geode

Lol... I just noticed from the Thread in the forum that there were TWO different versions!
I had visited the Guards first and noted that it was a Yard item, but then went over to the Miners and bought it there -- imagine my surprise when I got home and discovered that it would only fit in the Living room, not the yard!
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 15:34, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
I also had to return to the 21st Hall, because I only bought the Yard one, was not sure anymore of what I did pick the 1st time when I saw the page already existed! :) -- Goingbald (talk) 16:57, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Problem with Template: Settip

While creating a summary page for the Beorning, I encountered an interesting problem with the "Set" summaries.

See: Beorning Armour and Jewellery
  • There is apparently a closing brace missing somewhere when the template is transcluded.
All of the "original" set pages appear to be working normally.
The problem effect can be noticed by the fact that the === Armour Sets === line FOLLOWS the displays rather than being interpreted and starting a new line.
Similarly, the html break code is ignored.
  • I note also that there is a reference to "| amount= -Leave as is" in the doc -- I assume that is simply a "cut and past typo" - i.e. I do not see how it applies, so it can therefore simply be deleted.
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 02:18, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
The template's infos being mainly to be part of the tooltip of an item, it doesn't seem to have any special way of being display but "floating" wherever it's being used, so to transclude many pages of this type in a single page, it seems they just float one after the other. I've modified the page by adding a {{clr}} after the last but before the next piece of text, being the section title, and it now looks OK. :) -- Goingbald (talk) 03:32, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Mode Parameter documentation

On a different but related subject, I (still) don't understand exactly how this "|mode =" stuff works. I.e. when it does/should work.

The Mode parameters are defined at: Template: Tooltip - they apply to many different templates but are not referenced/defined on their Doc pages. And, confusingly, they are not used consistently.
(I suspect the Settip template may be one where the mode parameters do not apply, even though they mostly work.)
  • The question becomes - should we change the "Leave as is" statement to read something like:
Leave as is - See Template: Tooltip for mode details
Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC - talk 02:18, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
Yes, this could be mentioned in all templates referring in the end to the Tooltip template, they are needed just to "forward" the parameter to the Tooltip, where it really is used on the way to display the link. -- Goingbald (talk) 03:32, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Template:Skill

Hi there! Sorry I appeared out of nowhere and rolled back your changes without any explanation. I think I know what you were trying to do (from the discussion at Template talk:Tooltip), but changing the mode part turns all the skill boxes into links, even on the skill's own page. Looking at the history, it seems like you tried the same thing back in September, heh.

Doh, forgot that previous attempt... Thanks for reverting! :) What was displayed after has been moved back in the Template talk:Tooltip#Can we have an "mode=iconlink" parameter section -- Goingbald (talk) 02:21, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
