Patrolling

Patrolling works as follows: You go to Recent Changes and select one of the articles that have a red exclamation mark next to them. These are changes made by Users of the rank Ninja or lower. Now you look at the history page of the article you selected and compare the latest two versions. After making sure there were no errors made by the one who made the last change you can hit "Mark as patrolled" and move on to the next article. Hope this helps! If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask! :) --Tharondir (talk) 12:46, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

That's what I wanted to know, thank you very much! --Freepy (talk) 12:47, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
In "Tools for Editors" (above) near the bottom -- see the section "Patrollling" --> Help:Patrolling for all the details.

Re: Looking for a new project

Hi Freepy, it's good to see that you are enthusiastic to start a new contribution project. While it is basically up to you what you want to do next, my suggestion to you is as follows:

  • One of the most visited pages on the wiki are the quest pages. Our newest region, Eastern Gondor, still has a few missing quests. Adding quests is relatively simple, using the Create new quest tool makes it even easier. You can check Category:Eastern Gondor Quests for the quests that are still missing and fill them in, if you want to. :)

--Tharondir (talk) 09:37, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

Another idea: Do you PvMP? If you do, Update 16.2 has MASSIVE changes to both the Moors (Ettenmoors) and the new PvMP area: The Sundering of Osgiliath.
Right now we are primarily in a data gathering phase as Turbine is still making significant changes to things like base stats and buffs for Creeps and Freeps alike.
I expect (guess) that we are looking at at least 5 builds for 16.2 with a mid August release target. We just got build 2 over the 4th weekend.
Most of what currently exists for the Ettenmoors will need to be verified and updated as needed.
The easiest way to do this kind of thing is via lots of screenshots, and then finding the things that will need updating.

Thanks, both of you ^^. I'm currently focussing on adding the Eastern Gondor quests, because it seems like a better start. Also, I don't do PvMP very much, so I don't have enough experience for that kinda stuff I think... Thanks for the input though!

Icon 32x32

Hi, do you still have your screenshot to recapture the icon with the little black border, so its size would be 32x32? If yes, can you please upload it? Thanks in advance! :) -- Goingbald (talk) 15:23, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

Hey again. I do have it lying around somewhere, so I'll dig it up as soon as I'm able. Currently I cannot really do daily edits as I'm on vacation in France and the WiFi here is unstable. I'll notify you once it's up. --Freepy (talk) 22:14, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
Hey again, I've added the 32 x 32 version of the icon you mentioned. I just wanted to thank you for cleaning up after me. If you have any tips for me to do better with adding all those quests, please tell me :) -- Freepy (talk) 10:19, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the update! About quests, I must say that this is an area I've almost never worked on, only updating the rewards when needed, so you're already doing better on that! :) -- Goingbald (talk) 14:28, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Good Job!

Great work on your eastern gondor quest project as well as other continued edits and updates to the wiki's pages. I've bumped you to editor rights. Keep it up :) --Tharondir (talk) 12:07, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

Thank you so much! I won't let you down! -- Freepy (talk) 12:49, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

Sundering

Nah, it's fine. Thanks for laying the groundwork for the article, I was getting delayed from doing it for some time now. We need to add the correct map though - Osgiliath PvMP has its own map but the article currently displayes the PvE map.--Tharondir (talk) 19:16, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

The infamous steed of Nárië

I've cleaned out/up all of the various entries to Steed of Narie - I think - and gotten rid of all redirects.
Now we just need to wait until after all of the clean-up routines run on the Wiki tonight (?12-3am?) and see if the patrolling problem is gone or can be finally found.
However, this may be an item that is going to require someone with more knowledge than I to delve into the bowels of the database to find the entry that needs to be marked.
I've fixed up the entry in Mounts#Summer_Festival_Mounts so that all of the tooltips work correctly and the names, image references and items are correct -- and deleted the entries without the diacritical marks. Quite a list of items for each mount! (And not made any easier by the use of the terms Steed and Horse.)
Item:Steed of Nárië

Horse of Nárië
Item:Pony of Nárië

Keep your fingers crossed!

On the subject of bots

Hey again Magill,

As far as I know, you are the only active editor left with a bot that is capable of some tasks. I decided to try and set up my own bot yesterday since I have learned a great deal about python in university over the period I was away. I was wondering what language your bot is based on, and what sort of tasks you use it for, if you use it at all. If you want to give me suggestions for some bot tasks, please contact me asap and I will work on it!

--Freepy (talk) 15:27, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

See User: Magill-bot for most of what I know. The one thing I would say is that I have an old copy of Pywikibot -- they have switched repositories and it is now a GIT hub, as I recall.
And, more importantly, they have just recently done some significant updating. (I'm still on the mailing list, but don't pay much attention to it.)
From what I can tell, most everybody working with Pywikibot is based in Europe.
Other than that. Someone, User: Snarpel or User: Matthew.zellmer wrote a bot based on the API - One set of comments is in my Talk page - Archive 6 from last year.
Do either of them monitor their accounts or have email notifications set-up? I have no idea.
There is a fairly long dialog at User talk:Matthew.ZellmerBot (that I haven't taken time to read) that may help some.
One thing which I do not know now is the status of the test server. Does it even still exist? Need to post to User_talk:lotroadmin to find out.
I'm busy with other projects till next Monday (1/4/2016), so I'll just be checking in briefly till then.

Latest mailing list info. Haven't looked at my bot page to see if it is current.
