Strategy

I would like to call for a strategy revision. When the fight begins, the Drakes will instantly run from the door they were guarding up to Zogtark's platform, from where they will take off if they have > 10k morale. What we do is have everyone lay on all the dps they can on the right drake, and pop a conjunction on him as well. This will end up keeping him on the ground and defeat him before he takes off. The melee dps will then switch to take out all the fire-worms (of which I believe there is one wave, not two), while the ranged dps focuses on the other drake to get him to land and the MT is on Zogtark. Once the drake and worms are done, everyone focuses on Zogtark and the challenge to the fight is over already. --Fedaykin 11:06, 3 December 2007 (PST)

This is something pushed in at the last server downtime then. Prior friday we took down Zogtark the normal way. Tank the 2 drakes, kill fireworms, focus DPS on first drake, range tank the other (to avoid minstrels getting nuked by the other drake) once the first is at 10k or less it will land and can be meleed, when dead switch to the other.
As soon as the drakes take flight the MT should switch to tank Zogtark. Once teh drakes are dead the raid switches to Zogtark. We have killed him countless times this way and the drakes have yet to take flight instantly after starting the encounter. I did not raid last friday though so if this is the case now it was pushed live last thursday. --Anarchie 00:54, 4 December 2007 (PST)
Right, I guess I didn't explain it well enough - what I was talking about is still mostly what you wrote - that the two drakes run towards Zogtark and THEN take flight. However, every time in the past that we have done this encounter, the Drakes started running towards Zogtark within seconds of the encounter beginning, which altogether is certainly not enough time to take down all the Worms that spawn, and then keep one drake from taking off *before* they both reach Zogtark.
The way we usually do it is:
  • Initially, run towards the Drakes to start the encounter. Focus all DPS on the right Drake and take it down before it can take flight.
  • As it goes down and Zogtark activates, all *melee* dps takes down the Worms, and all ranged dps focuses on the Drake that took flight.
  • By the time the melee dps has taken down the Worms, the second Drake be around 10k and landing, so the melee dps goes to finish it off.
  • Now that all the adds are down, burn down Zogtark.
The key difference here that I was emphasizing is having the melee dps take down the Worms while ranged dps takes down Drake 2. I believe this is more efficient than - as you said above - having all dps take down Worms, then Drake 1, then Drake 2. I might add... how is your MT tanking Drake 2? I don't think you could build much aggro as a Guard when your target is airborne.

They arent airborn. When we do them they dont take off until one of them is down to about 20k or so. Plenty of time for 2 tanks to tank them while we do the worms. THen all switch to the first drake and i guess you know it from there :) --Anarchie 12:02, 7 December 2007 (PST)
Ah... I see what you mean now! I will definitely have to get us to try that tonight, that would make it even easier :) --Fedaykin 13:59, 7 December 2007 (PST)
