Talk:Walking-tree
The picture for this tree shows the tree while it's moving. I've got a shot of it in the original location where you find it, with the quest ring. Should I include my picture as well, or is the current one sufficient? Adelas (talk) 01:46, 19 August 2011 (EDT)
- In my opinion the current one is sufficient; we always try to take pictures of creatures and NPCs without quest rings or selection rings. --Ravanel (talk) 05:05, 19 August 2011 (EDT)
- That prompts another question; two, actually. First, Is it possible to turn off non-trivial (non-gray) quest rings above NPCs? I know you can turn them off in the radar... and Second, just to clarify, I know the images help guide says to find action shots for better visual interest, but in this case my focus was that a player's primary concern with this particular mob is to find it, so I thought perhaps a photo of it in the place where it's found would be useful. (The quest ring was a side issue.) So the point is, I'm asking whether having action shots is always preferable. Never trying to be argumentative, just trying to learn the standards. Thanks! - Had to check this in game myself, but in your Options window, under UI Options, about a third of the way down, there's a checkbox for "floating quest icons." That should help with getting "clean" NPC shots. :) I'll defer to Rav about the issue of the image - action shot or starting location. I can definitely see the rationale for having the latter, but at least the location is in the infobox, right? Sethladan 11:55, 19 August 2011 (EDT)
- I remember I chose for the action picture myself (I also had one of the tree before it started walking); I found the tree better visible with this background than with the brown greenish one where it is found. Since the place where it is found is not very distinctive (there are no specific characteristics that make it look different from other spider infested woods), the location coordinates and description were helpful enough in my opinion. That said, if you really think the other picture is better, go for it, I'm not that fussed.
- It's always a subjective matter why you pick a or b for an individual image. I see the action picture thingy more like a general idea of preference (interesting picture vs boring picture). Of course sometimes another choice is better. On top of that, everyone of course has their own taste and there's not much to be done about that. (We luckily don't really have a "picture dictator" around here :P.) Because of this, I usually try to only overwrite existing pictures if mine are of much better quality, or the old pictures had selection rings, names, or were very dark or small sized. - It does help, both of you guys. I'm always so afraid of stepping on toes, and afraid there's something I'm not taking into account, and forgetting/not knowing a formatting thing that would have been crucial in making a change... I think that's why I focus on copy editing and things like pages with no image at all. As for this particular page - my photo has a ring on it, which specifically disqualifies it, so no question on that one. It's good to have your perspective for future photos I take though, so I can be sure to get the ideal shot the first time. Thanks! Adelas (talk) 21:30, 19 August 2011 (EDT)
