Walkthrough & Notes

The quest progresses identically no matter which road from the fork into Byre Tor you choose The left hand fork takes you directly to the stable-master at Byre Tor Gnawing Cold inflicts you as you investigate the Byre Tor area Objective 6 appears after completion of Does Anyone Yet Live The Frosty Air ends this quest. The Frosty Air will appear in several places looking like a small grim, with a ring. It doesn't appear if you travel to the area using a mithril coin, but pops up if you travel towards the location on foot. One can be found here: [33.6S, 65.8W]

Quest Text

Bestowal dialogue 'Our quest for more knowledge of the stone and of Núrzum must wait. 'You must go to Byre Tor in Cyneberg's stead, for I worry for the people there. Their city is a bit wild, and the folk there are not friendly to strangers. They are savage even compared to us here. 'Be careful out there, <name>. The High Knolls are dangerous even in the best of times, and I could not bear to lose you too!' Background Gárwig wants you to put aside your search for Saruman's vile stone, and look instead to the people of Byre Tor. Objective 1 Take the north road through the Whitshaws towards Byre Tor Byre Tor can be reached by following the road from Forlaw all the way north through the Whitshaws, up into the craggy High Knolls. You should ride north to Byre Tor by way of the road. You glimpse a Rohirric banner on the road ahead; the city of Byre Tor is near Objective 2 Continue up the road The banners of Byre Tor can be found along the road leading north into the High Knolls from the Whitshaws. You should approach the banners. The Byre Tor banners have been defiled by Orcs! This does not bode well for the city... Objective 3 Destroy defiled Byre Tor banners (0/8) Defiled banners lie along the road to Byre Tor in the south-western High Knolls. You should destroy the defiled banners set by the Orcs. Destroyed defiled banners (8/8) Objective 4 Enter the village of Byre Tor Byre Tor lies up the road in the southern High Knolls. You should go to Byre Tor and see what damage the enemy has done there. Objective 5 Complete your search of Byre Tor's homes You should complete a thorough search of Byre Tor. Objective 6 Examine a frosty gust of air Small gusts of frosty air have appeared in Byre Tor. You should examine the little bursts of cold. Frosty Air: Frosty gusts of air have appeared in Byre Tor. Perhaps it is nothing to worry about, but it is good to notice these things.
