Bestowal dialogue

"After seventy-eight years in the dungeons of Barad-dûr, King Váskmun Greytooth of the Stout-axes has returned to lead his folk. However, if there is to remain any hope of forging a new Dwarf-kingdom within Mordor, the Stout-axes must break free of their servitude and challenge the Mistress of Lûghash, Zôreth."

Background

Overjoyed by the return of their King, Váskmun Greytooth, the Stout-axes of Lûghash have asked you and Gimli to share your tales of valour among the Free Peoples that they might learn more of the world beyond Mordor.

Objective 1

  • Talk to Gimli

Gimli is standing in Lûghash.

King Greytooth has asked you and Gimli to share your tales of valour with him and his folk that he might learn of the path that led you to Mordor.

Gimli:
'A tale of valour...
'We have won many battles and great victories together, my friend. It is hard to think of just one! Which among them speaks most of our trials and of the victories won by dwarves?
'King Greytooth awaits us, so I suppose I'll have to decide soon enough!'

Objective 2

  • Follow Gimli and join King Greytooth among the Stout-axes of Lûghash

King Greytooth is eager to hear tales of valour from you and Gimli. You should not keep him waiting.

King Váskmun Greytooth says, Hear my words!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Today I am honoured to welcome two wariors of renown to Lûghash
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Here is Gimli, son of Glóin, dwarf of Durin's Folk! He has journeyed from far-off lands to explore the realm of Mordor!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, And here is <name>, the brave <class> who aided my escape from the Dark Tower!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Valamar, I have heard you and Gimli have shared many adventures....
King Váskmun Greytooth says, I am curious, <name>. How did your adventures lead you to Mordor?

Objective 3

  • Tell king Greytooth the story of the Ring-bearer's quest

King Greytooth is standing in Lûghash. You should tell him of your many tales of valour, especially those you shared with Gimli.

You tell a story to King Váskmun Greytooth.
King Váskmun Greytooth says, I see. You keep strange company, my friend! Ah, but I mean you no offence!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Offer them my truest thanks! The evils done to my folk by the Dark Lord were many, and they are finally repaid!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, We know well of the final siege at the Black Gate, but what of the battles that came before?

Objective 4

  • Tell king Greytooth the story of the battles of the Hornburg and of the Pelennor Fields

King Greytooth is standing in Lûghash. You should tell him of your many tales of valour, especially those you shared with Gimli.

You tell a story to King Váskmun Greytooth.
King Váskmun Greytooth says, These Kingdoms of Men sound a sight to behold! And to stand against so many foes...a wonder!
Gimli says, Hah! We did a lot more than stand against them! I slew forty-two Orcs with my own axe at the Hornburg!
Gimli says, And by the time the day was ended, I slew twice as many on the fields of Gondor!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Hah! As any dwarf would hope!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Ah, but have you met any other dwarves beyond those of Durin's Folk in your adventures? Do any other Dwarf-kingdoms remain?

Objective 5

  • Tell king Greytooth the story of Skorgrim and of the lost Dwarf-kingdom of Khazad-Dum

King Greytooth is standing in Lûghash. You should tell him of your many tales of valour, especially those you shared with Gimli.

You tell a story to King Váskmun Greytooth.
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Skorgrím.... Did these Dourhands truly sense no danger in serving one who claimed to have returned from death?
King Váskmun Greytooth says, A dwarf in form, but no will of his own! No, no good comes from having spirits about!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, As for the lost halls of Khazad-dûm, I hope they do not remain darkened. Gimli, may your people and their expedition soon reclaim them!

Objective 6

  • Listen to Gimli tell the tale of Smaug and the Battle of Five Armies

Gimli is addressing King Greytooth in Lûghash. You should listen to his tale.

King Váskmun Greytooth says, If not Khazad-dûm, where now do your folk dwell, Gimli?
Gimli says, Some of those that once lived in exile now dwell in the Blue Mountains, but King Dáin and his folk again live within the Lonely Mountain!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Exile? I do not understand.
Gimli says, It is a tale of dwarves, dragons, and days long ago. Do you wish me to tell it, King Váskmun?
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Of course!
Gimli says, Very well! I shall tell it as best I can!
Gimli says, For many years, even before the fall of Khazad-dûm, the dwarves dwelt in the Lonely Mountain.
Gimli says, When Khazad-dûm was lost, my folk fled to the Lonely Mountain and rebuilt our kingdom within it.
Gimli says, There sat the first King under the Mountain, and for many years, my people prospered.
Gimli says, But it was not fated to remain so....
Gimli says, A great dragon, Smaug, brought ruin upon the Lonely Mountain and dwelt within the deserted halls of my people.
Gimli says, My folk were cursed with misfortune for many years, and even the Orcs mocked us!
Gimli says, But then came the day that Thorin Oakenshield set out to reclaim Erebor and slay Smaug!
Gimli says, With only thirteen dwarves, a hobbit, and an old grey wizard, they reclaimed Erebor and Smaug was slain!
Gimli says, Alas! With Erebor no longer guarded by a dragon, great armies gathered to lay claim to its treasures!
Gimli says, Although they did not begin the battle as our allies, Men and Elves alike aided my folk in repelling the Orcs of Dol Guldur!
Gimli says, The Necromancer's servant, Bolg, was defeated and Erebor became again a kingdom of the dwarves!
Gimli says, We learned in the years that followed that the Necromancer was Sauron himself, and in defeat, he fled back to this land!
Gimli says, That is the tale, King Váskmun!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, And what a tale it was! I am honoured to have heard it!

Objective 7

  • Witness Sversting present his tribute to King Greytooth

Sversting, the master-smith of Lûghash, has crafted a keen axe for King Greytooth and now wishes to present it to him.

King Váskmun Greytooth says, Do not worry, I have not forgotten you, Sversting! What did you wish to show me?
Sversting says, It is not to merely be shown, King Greytooth, but it is a gift in honour of your return!'
Sversting says, Behold! Dolgráth the Battle-hungry!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, It is magnificent, Sversting! I shall wield it well!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Yes, Spakorth?

Objective 8

  • Follow King Greytooth and learn of his secret

Spakorth has noticed a peculiar key upon a necklace worn by King Greytooth. King Greytooth is willing to speak of it, but wishes to do so privately.

King Váskmun Greytooth says, You have a keen eye, old friend, but we shall not speak of this here.
King Váskmun Greytooth says, There are matters to be discussed in private. Gimli and Valamar, will you join Spakorth and me?
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Come! As for you all, be merry and celebrate the days ahead for our people!

Objective 9

  • Defeat the fell-spirit that rose from Spakorth

Spakorth attempted to steal the key from King Greytooth, and after being thwarted, a fell-spirit has risen from him. Spakorth lies wounded, but the fell-spirit appears unharmed.

King Váskmun Greytooth says, Spakorth, Gimli, Valamar....
King Váskmun Greytooth says, I bear a key wrought of mithril! A key that shall bring good fortune to our people!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, The key that shall once again allow our people to wield the Dwarf-ring, Manthríf!
Gimli says, A Dwarf-ring?! I do not think it wise to wield one of the Dark Lord's trinkets any longer!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Nonsense! It brought my people good fortune and wealth for many years!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Besides, Sauron is dead and gone! What designs would he have for it now?
King Váskmun Greytooth says, I shall hear no more on -- Spakorth, what troubles you? You look unwell!
Fell-spirit Possessor says, It was not meant for you, dwarf!
Fell-spirit Possessor says, What you seek will not be yours!
The fell-spirit flees into the higher reaches of Lûghash!

Objective 10

  • Talk to king Greytooth

King Greytooth is standing above the defeated Spakorth. You should speak to him and learn what is to be done.

King Greytooth:
'So Zôreth thinks she can steal Manthríf from my people?'
King Váskmun grasps the mithril-key tightly.
'No! It belongs to my family -- it belongs to me!
'Spakorth still lives, but I cannot know where his will ended and the will of the spirit began.'
'We have no time for such things now. Zôreth has betrayed my folk to serve herself! Our time in her service ends today!'

Objective 11

  • Talk to King Greytooth

You have come to Zôreth's chamber with King Greytooth and the Stout-axes. You should now speak to him and confront the Mistress of Lûghash.

King Greytooth:
'There she is, <name>... the Mistress of Lûghash! "Saviour" of the Stout-axes! Bah!'
King Váskmun spits in anger and grips Dolgráth the Battle-hungry tightly.
'I think it is time we learned where Manthrif was taken!
'Let us go!'

Objective 12

  • Confront Zôreth

Zôreth is standing in her chamber. You should join King Greytooth and the Stout-axes in confronting her and putting an end to her treachery.

King Váskmun Greytooth says, Zôreth has deceived you all! Spakorth was taken by one of her spirits!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Subdue Spakorth at once! He is no friend of mine any longer!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Eitur, Gimli, Valamar -- come with me! Zôreth shall pay for her treachery!
Zôreth, Mistress of Lûghash says, Your dwarf friend told an interesting tale, Váskmun, and one that I know well.
Zôreth, Mistress of Lûghash says, Don't you see? It was the victory of his people that condemned you to the dungeons of Barad-dûr!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, You speak only lies, Zôreth! In truth, you abhor my people -- you never wanted to help us!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, Surrender Manthríf and I will spare you!
Zôreth, Mistress of Lûghash says, Will you now?
Zôreth, Mistress of Lûghash says, Take it! You won't get far before the Order kills you, and then it'll still be mine in the end!
Zôreth, Mistress of Lûghash says, Come, take it!
Váskmun pulls the key from its chain and opens the mithril-wrought lockbox...
King Váskmun Greytooth says, It...is empty!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, What have you done with it, Zôreth?
Zôreth, Mistress of Lûghash says, What? No!
Zôreth, Mistress of Lûghash says, Enough of your lies! Manthríf is mine!
Zôreth, Mistress of Lûghash says, Fool of a dwarf! I do not have the Ring!
Zôreth, Mistress of Lûghash says, So this is what the years of wearing the Dwarf-ring in the dungeons did to you? Oh yes, I know about that!
Zôreth, Mistress of Lûghash says, You shall destroy your own people, Váskmun! Even I could not be so cruel....

Objective 13

  • Talk to King Greytooth

King Greytooth is standing in Zôreth's chamber in Lûghash.

Despite freeing his people from the Mistress of Lûghash, King Greytooth appears more troubled than ever. You should speak to him.

King Greytooth:
'Manthrif is gone...lost...stolen!
'Zôreth knew what Sauron did to me in the dungeons! How could sh know such things? How could she know how he tortured me until I felt the hunger and greed of my forebaers?
'For how long have you and Gimli consipred against me? Durin's Folk dammed my people! How do I know you did not find it in the Dark Tower when I asked you to search for it? Manthrift is mine!
'It is mine by right, and none shall stand in the way of its return! Not even you and Gimli!'

Her words still echoing in the heights of Lûghash, Zôreth falls defeated...

King Váskmun Greytooth says, Hearken to me, my brethren!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, This day we shed the name given to us by the Dark Lord in mockery of my forefathers!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, We are now evermore the Firehorns, and Manthríf will be ours once more! That is the oath I now swear!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, These traitors and thieves: Gimli, Spakorth, and <name> are banished from our spire -- the Oath-taker's Horn!
King Váskmun Greytooth says, This is the only mercy I can offer you now! Begone!
