Naerband (Sindarin for Direhold, literally Dreadful Prison) is a point of interest and dungeon within Talath Úrui on the Plateau of Gorgoroth [63.8S, 18.7E].

Lore

Naerband, also known as the Direhold[note 1], was the greatest of Sauron's prisons. Its warden was the Uruk Thraknûl.[1] When Orodruin erupted and the Ghâshghurm formed, Naerband was super-heated by its proximity to the lava. Many prisoners were burnt alive within. [2]
