Overview

Damage Mitigation is a rating-based statistic that governs how much damage your character takes from different damage types.
There are 4 different types of mitigation: Physical Mitigation, Orc-craft Mitigation, Fell-wrought Mitigation & Tactical Mitigation.
Mitigation % is influenced by the mob's level versus your character's level. If your character's level is equal or higher to the mob's level then the mitigation % is as shown in the character window. If your character's level is lower then your effective mitigation % can be lower.
To determine the relationship between the rating value and the mitigation % see Rating to percentage formula.

Sources of Mitigation

Mitigation percentages are attained from a rating (by rating to percentage conversion) and from various mitigation percentage bonuses.
  • Physical Mitigation can be attained through:
    • increasing a character's Armour rating (100% conversion to Physical Mitigation Rating)
    • raw Physical Mitigation Rating bonuses (found on various equipment, essences, consumables, virtues, and relics)
    • Physical Mitigation percentage bonuses (found in various race traits, skill traits and on equipment)
  • Orc-craft Mitigation & Fell-wrought Mitigation (special forms of physical mitigation of respective damage types) attain contributions from:
    • Armour rating (20% conversion to Orc-craft/Fell-wrought Mitigation Rating)
    • raw Physical Mitigation Rating bonuses (100% conversion to Orc-craft/Fell-wrought Mitigation Rating)(found on various equipment, essences, consumables, virtues, and relics).
    • raw Orc-craft/Fell-wrought Mitigation Ratings (found in Epic Battles traits).
  • Tactical Mitigation attains contributions from:
    • your Armour rating (20% conversion to Tactical Mitigation Rating)
    • Will & Fate (100% conversion to Tactical Mitigation Rating)
    • raw Tactical Mitigation rating bonuses (found on various equipment, essences, consumables, virtues, and relics).
    • Tactical Mitigation percentage bonuses (found in various skill traits and on equipment)

Mitigation Calculation

The mob's/opponent level versus your own character's level is important:
  • If your character's level is equal or higher to the mob's level then your own level is used in the Rating to percentage formula.
  • If your character's level is lower then the mob's level then the mob's level is used in the Rating to percentage formula. Also, the number of levels in between will be deducted as a percentage from your effective mitigation % (not shown in character window) with a maximum of 5%. For example, a character level 105 against a boss level 108: 2 levels in between (106,107) gives -2% mitigation penalty.

Caps

The cap on how much damage can be reduced by mitigation ratings depends on the type of armour you are able to wear. See Stat caps for current values.
Mitigation percentage bonuses are in almost all cases not subjected to caps.
