Experience Distribution for XP Relics Used

Despite the assumption that XP is evenly distributed among all legacies (after imbuement), regardless of whether some legacies are at current max.. I noticed that a replaced legacy gains XP faster than you'd expect. I had about 44/53 on most legacies, and replaced one. The replaced one was 10/56. I used one (or two?) XP relics and all my legacies except the replaced one were at current-max. The replaced legacy was at 14. Used another XP Relic, and the new level of the replaced legacy was 50. So it appears that extra/unused XP is indeed applied to help catch-up replaced legacies. If someone works out the math of that, it would be useful to know it.
