Half-orc
Half-orcs are creatures bred from Orcs and Men by the Wizard Saruman in his stronghold at Isengard. How this was done is unclear, whether through some form of alchemy to imbue Orcs with Mannish traits or through actual interbreeding of the two races. If the latter, it is probable that the Dunlendings were used as breeding stock in this experiment. Like Sauron's Uruk-hai, Half-orcs could withstand sunlight. They were described as being "lynx-eyed" and evil in appearance. The more Man-like of Saruman's minions, of perhaps a slightly different breed, were known as Goblin-men.
