Experience points

Experience points, commonly known as XP, are the "currency" of advancement in LOTRO. There are three basic types of XP in the game.

• Character XP (gained through combat and quest completion) advances the combat level of the character. When the term XP is used without any qualifying adjective, the speaker is referring to this type of XP.

• Crafting XP (gained by creating with a crafting profession) advances the character's crafting level in that given profession.

• Legendary Item XP (gained through combat, quest completion, and sometimes through looted items) advances the level of a Legendary Item. This term is frequently abbreviated as LI XP or simply IXP ("Item XP").
