Thanks

.. or should I say Danke Viel ;)

I noticed your work on Virtues by Region and just wanted to "thanks" ... clarity and good looks combined, that is great :-)

Personally I like tables for this kind of information (they tend to be more compact and easier to scan) but we are all different and all needed info is there. Good job!!! Zimoon 05:53, 29 January 2012 (EST)

"Vielen Dank." :) --Ravanel (talk) 04:51, 5 November 2012 (EST)

Suggestions

Hi, I have noticed your edits on a few pages. I have a few suggestions that might help you out.

When you are editing a page, you can check what it will look like by pressing the "Show Preview" button, or going to the "Preview" tab (I'm not sure of the exact name of the tab as I use the old style editor view). This lets you see the results of incremental edits without saving to the wiki. When you have finished a series of edits, you can hit the "Save page" button to commit the changes. Since you are editing a shared resource, and without any page locking, it is usually a good idea to not keep the page open too long. When I have a page open for a long time, I take a clipboard copy from the this editing window before I hit save.

There are a couple of style for working on a new quest page: incremental and complete. I started out by taking a lot of screen shots, and after my game session (next day, or even next week), I would pull up the screen shots and transcribe the info into the quest page. Eventually, I found that this was a lot more work than it needed to be. Now, I tend to build the quest page as I am playing through the quest. I have the luxury of two monitors, so I have the game on one in windowed mode, and my browser open on the other. It's a bit more work if you only have one monitor. You can copy and paste from the active quest log and the quest history to the browser. You still have to transcribe the bolded quest objectives and the quest completion dialog.

For quest rewards, I hover over the item in the bestowal dialog or quest log, press "h" to get a detached tool tip, arrange the tool tips so they don't overlay and take one screen shot of up to 4 items. I use the Opaque skin, so the tooltip background is non-transparent black. I clip the tooltips out of the page, and then clip out the icons. I save the files with the name and type they will get on the wiki, <item>.jpg and <item>-icon.png. All this is very easy to do in Paint.NET - an open source paint program for Windows systems.

Enjoy the game, and have fun editing the wiki. RingTailCat (talk) 07:05, 3 February 2012 (EST)

I noticed you were editing the Imladris Kinship page. Unless you are a member of the edited Kinships I suggest you do not edit those. While I understand you wanted to do well, it is up to each Kinship how they want to present themselves, whether badly worded, poor grammar, or what. We do not polish their entries. However, would you notice any bad talk or discrediting one another, please contact any senior editor at his/her talk-page. If I have advised you in error, accept my apology and please explain your relationship with those guilds.

I am a member of 2 of the kinships of which listings I edited, and I contacted the leaders or officers of the others' listings which I either edited or added to the list and received their express permission to do so. So please be assured I have been editing the Imladris Kinship page on good faith. ;-)
