Hi there, just wanted to give you a warm welcome to the wiki! :) As you well know there is a lot to be done here, and if you plan on contributing regularly I recommend you check out our IRC Channel, #lotro-wiki on freenode. If you have any questions and the various help documentations can't answer them, one of the other editors definitely can. Oh, and I'll add you to the contributors, so you may want to create your own user page. --Fedaykin 18:14, 1 February 2008 (PST)

There and back again..

Sneaky Rogue

Hey peoples! Started playing after years of not looking back twice. I am having fun with it again so i might just have to stick around this time. We shall see. I miss this place. Rogue (talk) 23:37, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

And this place misses you! Hi Rogue! Trying to be sneaky again, eh? I'm only playing sort of part-time at the moment myself, but it's always nice to stay in touch with the wiki.
looks down at the other two topics on this page
I promise I'm not stalking your entrances and exits over the years, despite all evidence to the contrary. -- Elinnea (talk) 00:47, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

Well well, looks awesome around here, I figured I'd drop by and leave a note and see who notices. Rogue (talk) 13:01, 27 July 2013 (EDT)

Hi Rogue! Great to hear from you! Don't think you can slip in and out unnoticed. ;) -- Elinnea (talk) 15:20, 27 July 2013 (EDT)
Hi back Elinnea! I wouldn't dream of it. Started playing again, not sure I like how they handled housing, still messed up in my opinion. Rogue (talk) 16:39, 2 August 2013 (EDT)

NOTOCs on Item Pages

Hey, can I throw a question your way? I'm new here and I've been reading every Help-type page I can find, and I'm finding I still have several questions that aren't answered. But here's just one.
I see you took out the NOTOCs from those low-item-level Task Item pages I edited. I only put that in because I saw that in use in one of the pages, and I tend to assume that present code is preferrable to absent code. (On this website, I'm beginning to piece together that that might be a bad assumption?) When I search for 'NOTOC' in the bar in the upper right, nothing is returned, and I haven't found anything in any boilerplate/guideline page about when to and to not use it.
Stargazer said TOCs don't usually belong on Item Pages, so putting it in isn't a problem; but if you're taking them out, I'm guessing I guessed wrongly. If you're taking them out, then it's because you know they shouldn't be there. Is this info written down anywhere, about when to use and not use NOTOCs? Or should I assume that because the Item Boilerplate doesn't say to use it, and you took out the ones I put in because I copied somebody else's choice, that I should take it out when I see it? I'll do whatever the thing is that should be done, but I just can't find this answer on my own. And attempting to 'read the room' and also the boilerplates has, so far, failed me on every choice I've made except alphabetizing by zone. I'm really want to get this right, so, please let me know. Zero NOTOCs on Item Pages?

Table of Contents - when left to mediawiki's own devices generate on the left after so many headers are in place. I don't remember the exact number maybe 4? and once a page has that specific number it will add a TOC. We didn't like it being on the left so when the wiki was made we created {{Toc-right}} to move the TOC to the right side of the page, usually adding the code when we previewed and noticed there was a TOC added. If you preview and there is no TOC on the page = not needed as there are not enough headers to worry about it. __NOTOC__ was created when there were times that a TOC was created but we didn't want it on the page. Don't ask me why, I've been here forever and I can't remember the instances for which they did it. Generally if it's not there when you preview - you should always preview before saving - then don't worry about it. There's no "rule" anywhere about it as it's wiki code - so we could add a note in one of the beginning code help pages or new to wiki pages. But generally people don't bother with the TOC. Rogue (talk) 03:42, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
Also yah, there's a lot of things that are "broken" or wrong here, we try our best but there's SO much more than when this game started and it gets overwhelming at times. Plus we've had some people come through who didn't ask before changing rules; they are no longer here.. which makes it even more confusing when some things are one way and others are different. Rogue (talk) 03:42, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
(IM) so we could add a note in one of the beginning code help pages or new to wiki pages - yesss, because guessing the standards from looking at live code and guides that don't specify is clearly not working out for at least one new editor. (me. it's me. I'm not guessing right. And if I don't, who else won't?) So, should I start in the Talk for Boilerplate:Item? Or... I'm looking at so many of these. Maybe Help:Items? Because I'm generating more and more standardization questions that are not yet covered by stated documentation that I can find. Probs the BP:I page, tho, right? Maps

I've seen you create lot a of map pages lately, and you're wondering if certain maps are Lottery drop (or as they are nowadays: daily/weekly Hobbit Gifts). I've never ever seen a map drop from a hobbit gifts. But there are maps which drop from random mobs like Map to the Eavespires. There are also maps like Map to the East Wall - Dead Orc Glade which you can only get from map-makers while playing on Bullroarer. This is the info I've got, maybe someone else can confirm that. -- Tiberivs (talk) 20:40, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

I figured that might be old info for the "drop" items since a lot of the pages created had both drop/store information but are actually different items I was going through creating and sorting them for the store maps - I am originally working on the LOTRO Store but as you know - rabbit holes. Thanks for the info, yah I saw that some drop maps were from mobs and are listed as such and some are from the "old" lottery / loot boxes. I wasn't aware of the bullroarer map-maker as now you can get the maps from the Store... been updating Store items and those came up so I am wondering if they've recently moved over to live. Without knowing myself I am leaving it up to others to fill in the missing current info, hence the stubs.
Also, a lot of us are on our LOTRO-wiki Discord server quite a bit and use it to chat back and forth (text-based mostly, not voice) if you are interested in joining. It would be nice to see more Bureaucrat ranks there! Rogue (talk) 20:52, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
Nice, I just joined the discord server... About the maps, these drops are very rare... but not all (Store equivalent) of them drop. Next time bullroarer is up, I'll check the mapmaker, and make notes about which are available. -- Tiberivs (talk) 21:50, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
