Warden

I think either edits with the external links are a bit alarming. Perhaps best to leave external links on the bottom? I will let the other editors weigh in on the style though --Lotroadmin 02:58, 9 February 2011 (EST)

I found it a bit alarming too, Lotroadmin, but, of course, I'd rather keep something I shouldn't than delete something I shouldn't. I'm actually just not familiar with how many such links there are elsewhere in the wiki, or what their format is. - Cenryth 08:55, 9 February 2011 (EST)

Hio - I changed the external links to use <ref> and created a reference list at the bottom - you might notice this is how Wikipedia generally does this sort of thing. Take a look and see if this is any less jarring. Feel free to undo my changes if they don't look right. :) Sethladan 14:41, 9 February 2011 (EST)
Me again - skimmed through the rewrite and I agree with the spirit of Cenryth's changes - reframing it into a more neutral article instead of being written in the first person ("we"). The original write-up had a lot of good information in it, though, that perhaps would be best migrated to a "class guide" for the Warden (e.g., grouping strategies, what to know when working with a Warden, etc.). These class pages are already long enough, so we need to keep their scope limited somehow, I guess. Sethladan 14:57, 9 February 2011 (EST)

I'd love to include such tactical advice and analysis in the wiki in some manner, but at the same time, it seems inherently subjective and opinionated. We could have separate pages - for example, 'Warden Strategies and Tactics,' - and perhaps they would end up with lots of strategy that there is consensus on, but there would inevitably be edit wars over plenty of it. The best option, I think, is a separate page listing links to all known class and strategy guides, alphabetically. The only info that I think we can expect to stay unchallenged at the top of a class's page is summaries of abilities and roles that mirror Turbine's own descriptions. - Cenryth 14:16, 10 February 2011 (EST)

We have a pretty good List of Guides that go to external links, although I'm not sure how complete and up-to-date that is. You make a good point that there are bound to be conflicting opinions about the "better" or "best" way(s) to play a certain class, but I'm not sure if it would necessarily devolve into edit wars; multiple perspectives can be presented on a page, leaving it to the readers to decide which advice/strategy/tactic they favor. We do see some of this in-depth strategy popping up on some boss mob pages with editors providing, at times, very specific techniques for how an encounter should be run. Sometimes there'll be discussions on the talk pages about the validity of this group makeup versus that, or whether Hope tokens are really needed, etc.
To make a long rambling post short, if you want to create a strategy/tactics page for the Warder - or any other class - go for it! I like the title you suggested, and would definitely read it for some insight into a Warden's playstyle. Sethladan 17:53, 10 February 2011 (EST)
Hm, well alright then, that sounds great! I agree. I didn't even look for the 'list of guides' page, just kinda put the idea out there in ignorance. This is exactly what I was thinkin of. Thanks. - Cenryth 20:50, 10 February 2011 (EST)

Channeled Skill

Did you want a category for Channeled Skill? Starbursty 07:36, 9 February 2011 (EST)

Yes Starbursty, that's what I had in mind. I made the Category:Channeled Skills right after making Channeled Skill. I realized while I was editing Power of Knowledge that there should be some explanation of the channeled skills mechanic, and that it should be in a central page rather than in each channeled skill's page. - Cenryth 08:55, 9 February 2011 (EST)

I went ahead and deleted the Channeled Skill page as you requested, but then realized that it might be something useful to have - as you mentioned (Cenryth), it's good to have a description in a central place, and we do have definitions for a lot of other game terms (Morale, Dread, Evade, and so on) in different places - so I'm gonna bring it back and we'll see where to attach it. Thanks for writing that up! Sethladan 14:43, 9 February 2011 (EST)
I think Channeled Skill is a nice page indeed. I have deleted the category though, since it is not being used. It would also mean other skills should also be sorted as "Debuff Skills", "Damaging Skills" etc to keep consistent. This is unnecessary. Skills are only categorized by class and I think making an exception for channeled skills is a bit too much. Instead, the appropriate skill pages can now link to Channeled Skill and all is well. :) --Ravanel (talk) 04:34, 21 September 2011 (EDT)
