More fields

Hey EoD, I need more fields, 50 is not enough. Rogue 11:24, 27 April 2011 (EDT)

Oh, there was a limit I didn't know about. The depth limit should be 40, but it doesn't work with that. So I group them in blocks of 20, as this works for sure. You (and Amphoras) tried to expand it the right way, but you have to add after 20 new items the closing brackets for it to work properly. Feel free to expand it to your needs with those 20-blocks :). --EoD 12:30, 27 April 2011 (EDT)
Ah that makes sense. I noticed at first Rogue had only added extra lines up to 69 but had added }}s up to 70 and thought maybe that was the problem, but then when I tried it didn't work either. I noticed later it only seemed to be adding 40 lines, but wasn't sure if it was something to do with the template or tables or something else entirely. Amphoras 12:46, 27 April 2011 (EDT)

Out of curiosity, why do you close the #if tags at the end of the blocks instead of on each line? Just wondering what the difference/purpose is there. Sethladan 13:06, 27 April 2011 (EDT)

I want to server not to check for {{{21|}}} if even {{{20|}}} doesn't exist (there should be no parameter #21 if there is no parameter #20, although it's possible). --EoD 21:35, 27 April 2011 (EDT)

Lettering

Is there any way to get the capital letters in line with the rest of the word? Also, how would it work with prices? Jumping in a bit late, sorry. Rubyctook 16:59, 27 April 2011 (EDT)

The cost at the vendors should be inside the item tooltip. Rogue 18:16, 27 April 2011 (EDT)
Yes, it should, but I was thinking of people who have javascript turned off/just want to see all the prices at once, quickly, for reference. The tooltip pop-up works all the time for me now, thankfully, so I personally don't mind (although it does make me notice which items don't have a vendor price and think "now, do I have a character who's only Acquaintance with X faction?"). Hmmm, do we have any sort of reference for converting discounted prices? They aren't actually precisely 20% off, as far as I can calculate. Which I could be doing wrong, ha. Pricing problems

I have a couple of issues with the Vendor list -- first, the ugly black box... how about lightening it up to a grey of some sort. Black is just too stark. Or maybe with Gold lettering as in-game it would not seem so start.
But, the main issue I have is the need for prices.
There are two situations where I would use the recently discovered Vendorlist template (or the {{:Provisioner}}) insert but can't.

1- In the Ettenmoors, the Coldfells Provisioner, in fact, sells a very different list of items than the "normal" provisioner making him an ideal candidsate for the Vendorlist BUT he charges HIGHER prices than appear in the Tooltip.

2- In the Housing developments, the "supplier and provisioner" also sells a mix of items.... at LOWER prices. There are two different price sets -- one for Homeowners and one for Kin members (and a third for "outsiders.")

(A separate issue is, similar to this "discount" structure in the housing area is the discount afforded for gaining "rep" with various factions. I knew it applied to travel, but have just discovered that "Ally status grants a 5% vendor discount as well.

Alternately, for use in the Vendor List... would be if the ToolTip for the Item had a way to add/identify "special location" prices. ... but that sounds like far more work than it is worth.

If the Vendor list had a prices option, they would display, and only if one moused over the item would they see the standard price. Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk) 00:39, 20 July 2011 (EDT)

Suggestion: Make This Obsolete

No, I am not kidding, at least not completely. And if it should not be made obsolete this template needs serious changes. Why?

I agree with Magill just above saying "the ugly black box" ... I am one of those readers who have problems with black or very dark background and that was one of the reasons I was attracted to this wiki, it was light and bright, not dark and scary as so many other game-sites usually are. Then there was/is a bunch of col and nice editors around :-)

The information the box conveys is quite useless, only the name is useful, and the visitor must hover the mouse over the name to get any useful information whatsoever. Hence almost useless as it does not invite for comparing any items.

Wanted

The following info is the bare minimum while visiting a useful vendor page, in order of importance:

  • Name of item
  • Level
  • Main characteristics
  • Price

If these four elements may be extracted from each item's page (or if that requires something that automagically creates a hidden shadow page??) it would be great if the Vendorlist displayed this in almost the same format as we use today:

Sells

If the NPC sells items, list them here.

Item Cost
 Shortsword
== Sells ==
''If the NPC sells items, list them here.''
{| class="altRowsMed" width="400px"
! width="300px" | Item
! width="100px" | Cost
|-
| {{Reward|Shortsword}} || align="right" | {{worth|g=|s=|c=|dp=}}
|}

Add a column for level and possibly for main characteristics, create a helper-template (that replaces the Reward in the above example) which creates on "table row" for the item, and the Vendorlist handles the rest of the table. And let it use the same colours as the above example, then if we decide to change the colour-scheme per season or any other reason we do not have to run over all different "features" we have added all over the place.

If the above is not doable, not in any fashion or form, then I suggest we make this obsolete and continue using the above example code. BUT ... I would love to see the four items being able to extract from items, that would make updating vendor pages sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much easier than it is today.

Good Grief. Please do not use this ugly abomination. It places an disgusting black botch on the page that is out-of-character with the rest of this wiki. Right now there are only three or four pages using it. STOP. Don't use it any more. If you want something as simple to use, please create a new template that will look nice beside our existing vendor lists. RingTailCat (talk) 14:50, 28 January 2012 (EST)
I completely agree. The suggestion is only if it is possible to extract the 4 data-pieces from each item, and that the result looks like the layout we are using. We all agree on the looks, keep it simple and uniform. If that happened it would be great to be able to JUST tell a list of items, such as Vendorlist seems to aim at today. Otherwise, make it obsolete. Zimoon (talk) 20:02, 28 January 2012 (EST)
This sounds like an application for a MediaWiki extension, such as WikiDB. There are other database extensions available, but this one looked very promising from a security and ease-of-use POV. RingTailCat (talk) 04:10, 29 January 2012 (EST)
Indeed it does, editing the usual Wiki-style but with a DB behind. Can it be better? However, I will stick to geography (and touch quests and NPCs that pertains to locations I pass by) and small stuff. It's easy to say "no" or to suggest, but harder to find time outside the current project ;)
