Where is the description of color

The documentation here is pretty thin...

Where is the description of what values produce what colors? Or for that matter, what values are appropriate to use in the template. Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk) 14:11, 18 April 2012 (EDT)

Also, I just noticed, the two examples given are identical in their results. Adding the parameter "title=1" apparently does nothing. Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk) 14:13, 18 April 2012 (EDT)

They're not identical: the title=1 adds some popup text, as explained in the template's Description section. I'm not sure what that would ever be used for, though...?
I agree about the need for documentation. It took me quite a while to figure out what "quality" parameters on the wiki were even asking me to fill in, and then I had to do trial and error to find which words matched which colors. Are the item qualities and colors explained anywhere on the wiki? It's useful information for readers too, not only editors. -- Elinnea (talk) 14:21, 18 April 2012 (EDT)

I have always had the same problem, except that at one time I had recalled seeing the "color table" -- it still too me a while to find it. I assume you noticed I added the transclude for quality to the /doc file so we won't have that problem in the future! (Or at least if you look at the template link at the bottom of a page.)

Most all of the parameters in all of the templates on LOTRO-Wiki suffer from this same problem -- even if the values appear to be "intuitive," guessing the correct spelling and nomenclature, i.e. that used on the wiki, can be a daunting task.
It is akin to the problem of the gross inconsistencies in "Categories" -- where, for example, "Creatures" belong to the region, but everything else belongs to the Area/location. Even if you have an idea what that means, you discover that same distinction doesn't apply to "images" -- sigh.
I guess I need to resurect my proposal to merge: Categorization Guideline with Lotro-Wiki Categorization and to get that information into : Help:Categorization, which presently does not refer to either page, and claims there is nothing to do! Done.

As for the "hover text" -- I believe it either does not work or has been eliminated from the template. It clearly does not work in either of the examples on the /doc page. I don't really understand what is supposed to be happening and know less about the mechanics of templates (although I'm working on learning), so I don't know which is the correct answer there.

Hover text works for me on Chrome/WinXP. It pops up, as advertised, on the second "Map to Ost Guruth" example with "Map to Ost Guruth is an epic quality item." This may be a browser-specific issue that could be looked into, but - as Elinnea said - there's not really much use for it either way. (For clarification, this hover text is the same style as if you moused over "Special Pages" immediately to your left: The text there is "A list of all special pages [alt-shift-q].")
