Headers

Hi all - as a lot of people might have noticed recently, many pages were displaying == Description == at the top instead of the actual header. Made a quick change that should fix that for the moment, but it would be great if everyone could pitch in and make a small change on NPC pages they come across:

If you see the == Description == bit on the same line as the template closing tag, like this:

...
 | quest      = x
 | type1      =
 | type2      =
}}==Description==

Please take a moment and bump it down to the next line, like

}}
==Description==

There'll be some extra spacing at the top of the page that way, but it's a lot better than all the ==Description==s appearing everywhere when we tighten up the code for this template again. Thanks in advance! :) Sethladan 17:03, 25 February 2011 (EST)

default image name

Please change the template to use {{PAGENAME}} instead of {{{name|}}} for the default image name. In most cases, this will not make a difference, but when we have ambiguities, such as Dunlending Guard (Eregion), Dunlending Guard, Dunlending Guard the current method is a problem. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by RingTailCat (Contribs • User Talk) at 21 Nov 2011.

Fixed as of late. Also removed unused handling of "Shire" and "Trollshaws". For future, let improper stuff just fall out into "wanted categories" from where we can pick them up and correct them. -- Zimoon 06:35, 9 November 2012 (EST)

Why the Green Color for Links?

I am sorry if this is said elsewhere but I wonder why we have this green color for links at the Npcbox?

Perhaps it is just my monitor (and those I have at work) but the light green on middle-light grey is not very good for my eyes. For example, most often I need to select the coordinates just to be able to read the numbers. On screens a grey background for normal text is almost never a great choice, the reason is technical and somewhat lengthy, I'll spare you for once ;)

While at it ... compared to the info-boxes for quests and locations the Npcbox seems a bit old and .. grey. Would it not be time to refresh its look an at the same time ensure best possible readability? Whether more like the mentioned info-boxes or something else but fresher?

Aligning?

Lotroadmin, I wonder if we did not have it the other way around? The aligning towards the centre bar? Or rather, I am pretty sure we had. That asked, is this better? Or not? Open-ended qestion. -- Zimoon 01:53, 11 April 2012 (EDT)

Was this template broken recently or has it always been this way

I don't know if this is a new side-effect of recent edits (which to me don't seem to be related, but I don't really "do templates"), or if it has always been there, and I just never noticed it before.

This template does a large amount of auto-categorization. However, none of that is reflected in the PAGE which is generated by the template. Only "the effect" shows up in the Category listings at the bottom of the page based on the various parameters -- which all work correctly.

However, the net effect of this auto-categoirzation techinque is that those [[Category: xxx]] are hidden on the page preventing them from being excluded via <noinclude> statements when the entry is transcluded into another page, resulting in the transcluding page being erroneously categorized in an NPC category.

Problem example:

  • Dol Amroth -- has Havens of Belfals NPCs category -- which it should not have.

I think the issue was with Category:Dol Amroth NPCs, since it did have [[Category:Havens of Belfalas NPCs]] on it before it was deleted. That's probably the categorization that was "bleeding through." Sethladan 21:09, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
