This doesn't seem to be the most graceful method of providing a link between the overlapping topics. Could we, perhaps, turn it into footer like those that link certain kinds of items, bosses within a raid, or locations in a region? Perhaps as Template:Mounted Combat? -- JnK (talk) 00:32, 6 December 2012 (EST)

I'd also suggest something like this or this. We tend to go with the footer template, so we don't have anything similar like them on this wiki, but it's another option if we want to keep the information on top of the article. -- Neum (talk) 04:11, 6 December 2012 (EST)
The basic feeling was that a drop down like in the Quest boxes was preferable to simply transcluding the information from another page. And similarly, the Footer concept does not lend itself to being obvious when there is a large amount of information (i.e. more than one-word pointers) -- and the footers tend to be included in mid-page in such cases.
A major problem being addressed was that of the introduction of a new technology into the game. There was a need to convey a significant amount of information which would (and did) generate a huge page. Breaking that out into multiple pages gave rise to indexing those pages on each page in such a way that people could discover what was relevant to the new situation. The other problem was conveying the unfamiliar information and terminology to "new readers" while not overpowering those who already knew about it. The Mac Client has the same set of issues.
I'll have to explore the Communist way:) -- that might work out better than the Acid/Base version which would tend to conflict with the TOC on each page. But in any case, that becomes the issue there -- the existence of the TOC.

  • And just to make matters more fun... two Mounted Combat technologies -- Open Tapping and Remote Looting -- will be going Middle Earth Wide with the release of Update 9, probably next week (13 December). Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk) 15:47, 6 December 2012 (EST)
OUCH!! It seems that the sidebar templates are not native to the Media WIKI and need LOTS of other templates. ... this is going to take more than a bit of effort to implement. i.e just to find out what the Media WIKI equivalent of a Sidebar happens to be... I've personally prefer a navbar at the top or right side that lists the related topics using just one or two words or the actual page name. Somewhat like the on the class or captain page, just something simple and doesn't take up much space and is to the point. The class info box is nice and simple but with some flare lol. --Lotroadmin (talk) 18:48, 7 December 2012 (EST)
