Quick Tutorial to Add Different Values

This info is currently hiding in different corners of the wiki, so here's a quick and dirty tutorial to add any missing costs.

  1. Add the cost to the table on this page. This should be a simple copy & paste of the last line in that table, increasing the code by one, and then copying your numbers in to the rest of the table row. Here is an example.
  2. You now have to add your values to this template: Template:Legacy/Cost Table
    1. Edit the page, then scroll down to Max Rank section for your addition - that is, if you have a Max Rank 9 cost to add, scroll down to the line that starts {{#ifeq:{{{Max Rank}}}|9|{{#switch: {{{Tier 1 Cost}}}<!-- enters tier 1 cost if there are 9 ranks -->
    2. Add your information to the bottom of this section. Again, copy and paste the last line and change the info to match your new info
    3. If the Max Rank is 9, you must also add your row to the table for the section labeled {{#switch: {{{Tier 1 Cost}}}<!-- assumes rank 9 if no values entered -->.
    4. Now scroll down further, to the section labeled Tier 2 Cost, and find the same spot for this Tier.
    5. Do the same, add your info to the bottom of this section. If you are doing this for a Max Rank 9 legacy cost, make sure to add a row on the last section, too.
    6. You have to do this for each Tier, for a total of 6 times in this template. This is very important, do not skip this step!
    7. Here is an example of a Max Rank 9 update - note there are 12 lines added. Here is an example of a Max Rank 5 update - note there are 6 lines added.
    8. Save the page.
  3. Go back to the legacy page and test it out to see if your information now shows up correctly, and you're done!

I hope this short little guide helps out! Feel free to leave me a comment on my talk page if you're confused or need more info.

Indeed very helpful, thanks for adding this here. I only need to add a legacy every so often. so I keep forgetting how this works. ^^ --Ravanel (talk) 12:59, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

Check Cost

Can someone check the cost progression for Max Rank = 4 Code = 2

I have a Champion's Rune of the Third Age with an Ardour/Glory Pip Interval currently at Rank 1 with a Major Legacy Tier 2 cost progression of

Rank 2 - 81
Rank 3 - 162
Rank 4 - 322

It is the Rank 2 value which differs from the current value on this page. I'd like to determine if we need to change the current cost progression, or if we need to add another code for the progression I am seeing here.

Thanks RingTailCat (talk) 14:11, 6 July 2011 (EDT)

Guardian bleed pulses

Tier 3 item progression for Guardian Bleed Pulses legacy is 23 / 34 / 49 / 68 / 90 / 117 / 147 / 180, though I'm not seeing a progression matching this, should a new one be added? --Goo (talk) 21:34, 20 February 2012 (EST)

If those are the costs, then a new line would be needed, which would be rather difficult since it's hard to go lower than 1. But it does seem odd that the cost is so high. I'm afraid to ask what the Tier 1 costs would be. -- Elinnea (talk) 10:01, 27 February 2012 (EST)

Updating Costs

Please add and missing costs to the table below. Once we think they are all there, the main table can be updated. (Ignore the code column, I just left it in as leaving it makes the copy/pasting easier.) Amphoras (talkTalk to me!) 15:26, 12 March 2012 (EDT)

More values

I'm not sure what the formatting is all about, but here's the full table of values I use in the Legendary Item Plugin. That covers absolutely all legacies that have 9 ranks, and some that have fewer ranks (only lower values used in that case, obviously):

32,48,69,95,126,163,205,252
27,41,59,81,108,140,176,216
23,34,49,68,90,117,147,180
18,27,39,54,72,93,117,144
16,24,35,48,63,82,103,126
14,21,30,41,54,70,88,108
12,17,25,34,45,59,74,90
9,14,20,27,36,47,59,72
8,12,18,24,32,41,52,63
8,11,16,22,30,38,48,59
7,11,15,21,27,35,44,54
7,10,14,19,25,32,41,50
6,9,13,17,23,30,37,45
6,8,11,16,21,27,33,41
5,7,10,14,18,24,30,36
4,6,9,12,16,21,26,32
4,6,8,11,14,18,22,27
3,5,7,9,12,15,19,23
3,4,5,7,9,12,15,18
2,3,5,6,8,10,13,16

There are also just 10 possible patterns used for those legacies, that is to say 10 different combinations of those values above for T1 to T6.

Legacies with fewer ranks are a bit more complex, and series of values have come and gone in the recent past but those 9 ranks series have been reliable for a long time now. Equendil (talk) 22:56, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Oh wow, I'm a big fan of your plugin! Thanks for posting these here!
When we made these tables we didn't know all the values, so that's why they're so messy / illogical. The problem is that if we would implement your table, all the existing legacy pages would be affected as well, so they would have to be done all over again, which is a huge undertaking if you want to take the information from the game (we would have to start from the beginning again). However, if you have the legacy cost information per legacy stored in some readible format and you'd be willing to share, we could go over them all (the R9 ones, that is). Then they would even be much more complete than they are now - that'd be huge!
I have to admit that I haven't used your plugin in ages since I'm playing LotRO in a more casual manner nowadays (due to the lack of endgame). How up to date is your information?
No doubt there is some easier technical solution to this all, but I'm not very good with coding, I fear. Amphoras originally made the legacy template on this wiki and would probably know what to do, but I don't think he's active at the moment. I'll leave him a message nevertheless.
Thanks again for posting here! --Ravanel (talk) 13:33, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
Cheers. I've just recently updated my plugin for Helm's Deep, the vast majority (~95%) of legacies should be up to date, I might have overlooked a small number of recent changes though, it's hard to track when not documented by Turbine. The data I compiled is in semi-readable format in my plugin (LegacyCosts.lua & LegacyData.lua for reference), that is to say a technical minded person should be able to extract it.
I've done that for the 9 ranks legacies below. First I list possible patterns, the second table refers to the first one and lists scalings for that pattern for tier 1 to 6. The number before the legacies refers to one of those 10 possible patterns. Note that pattern #7 is apparently not in use anymore for any legacy as of Helm's Deep (although it could make a come back someday, you never know ...). With a clever bunch of new wiki-templates it should be possible to just put that pattern number on a legacy's page and let the templates display the correct values.
I can also provide numbers for the remaining legacies that don't fall into those patterns, but one thing at a time!
Equendil (talk) 21:23, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
Edit: There might be some legacies I listed with fewer than 9 ranks, if they follow the same patterns. Equendil (talk) 21:26, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

On a related note, values of legacies that scale (eg: rating legacies) are a mess on the wiki, but that might be a little too much to handle. Turbine has been 'adjusting' these legacies a lot over major updates, whether the series of values themselves, or which bit of those series are applied at a given level, age or number of crystals of a LI, or the real level of LIs players can use (up to level 170+ now since Helm's Deep IIRC). As a result, I think it would be fairly difficult to display those values properly. One way would be to simple display all values for each combination of level, age and crystal That would be a daunting task to enter manually, and I imagine extremely difficult to compute automatically with templates. A formatting

  • Thanks Equendil! -- I'm just a retired Unix SysAdmin, so I'm not going to pretend to understand what your Lua does. Following the discussion is one thing, actually understanding it is another!
I have simply used the headings from the table above. I have no idea what they mean, so they might not be correct. :)
I also used the {{!!}} formatting instead of || as that is what the previous tables on this page used. I have do not know why or what the implication is here.
However, I suppose if these tables are tanscluded into the template, that is the reason.
  • Should this table replace (or be added to) the tables on the main page? Someone who knows what this is all about or who uses these tables will have to decide. Ravanel ? Elinnea?

Hey Magill, thanks for putting those values into such a nice table. In the ideal world we would want this to replace the R9 table on the Legacy Cost Progression page, yes. However, we can't do that just yet because it would affect all the existing R9 legacy pages - and they would all display incorrect numbers without us being able to tell what the correct ones were. It'd be a huge paperwork undertaking. We'll have to find a solution to that problem, first. --Ravanel (talk) 13:37, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
I don't use Equendil's LIP Plugin, but I assume that his table IS the point costs for each legacy/rank. That being the case, then his table WOULD represent the correct and most current information and should therefore replace anything else on the Wiki.
Amongst other things, any existing, OLD values are probably wrong, as Turbine has "tweaked" the Legacy business multiple times in the recent past.
I don't know enough about either Legacies in General or what is attempting to be displayed here (let alone how) to verify. (I.e. I don't know where the data is coming from.)
Equendil's "other" new release (Item Links Decoding) and (Here Be Dragons) may provide those answers. I don't know.

I've been busy with legacies the past weeks, and the values (or 'old values' as you call them) are not wrong. In many cases, they actually even still count for legacies that have been renamed and slightly changed. We should indeed work on the legacies that have been changed (which you so kindly labeled :) ), and I've made a small start on the Captain and Lore-master legacies, but that is another story. Please believe me when I say that if you blatantly replace the old table with the new one, a great amount of pages will be screwed over and their information lost. This page is not just a page displaying information, it actually affects what is displayed on all the legacy pages (together with some other pages that work together). --Ravanel (talk) 17:36, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

What is your personal opinion of the LI system?
Doesn’t have any particular problem with it as it is, but he knows that the team is looking into some stuff. He just got back the preliminary outline of the 20 questions that players submitted, and that question did get answered and it’s something the team is taking a look at.
LoL... the more we change the more Turbine changes things :)

Indeed! It's been a huge pain in the arse— pardon my French— to maintain the Legendary Item Plugin. Every expansion cycle, Turbine alters a huge bunch of legacies, how they're named, how they scale up, how much they cost, or all of that plus some bugs, or they just erase them with new ones. A lot of that is never documented in update notes too *grmpf*. I've had to make massive updates 4 times now, over 100 legacies for Helm's Deep (ok, some are just slight name alterations, but even that is difficult to track). Whee, data! *computer science nerd squeals with glee* Thanks for sharing the info, Equendil. I've used both your LIP and HereBeDragons plugins, as well, so it's exciting to see your name pop up here. I may have to break my own rule and start working on templates again just so we can work your numbers into the correct places... Sethladan 13:51, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
