Bestowal dialogue

"Infuriated by the attacks orchestrated by the Dragon Clan and seemingly the armies of Isengard as well, Guto plans to take matters into his own hands...."

Background

You and Guto have discovered that the White Hand is behind the recent aggression by the Dragon-clan.

Objective 1

Guto is at his encampment.

You should speak with Guto.

Guto: 'If I am not mistaken, it appears that these White Hand half-orcs are behind all of the Dragon-clan's attacks on Trum Dreng, and the villainous plan to uproot the Stags once and for all.
'My grandfather might stand in the way of an open attack on these fiends, but it must be done. Will you stand with me, <name>?'

Objective 2

  • Follow Guto

Guto is at his encampment.

Guto says, "This is no time for caution, <name>. We must weaken them, and then attack with our full strength!"
Guto says, "We can pick them off from the hilltop. Come, follow me."
Guto says, "I heard something...."
Guto says, "Be on your guard, <name>! Someone approaches."
Someone approaches....
White Hand Envoy says, "Peace, Guto of Lhan Tarren! And you, <name> of a distant land."
White Hand Envoy says, "We have come only to speak with you."
Guto says, "Speak quickly, before my fists decide not to listen!"
Murig says, "You dare to threaten the Dragon-clan?"
White Hand Envoy says, "Quiet, Dragon! You have already broken our trust. Do not make things worse for yourself."
White Hand Envoy says, "Guto of Lhan Tarren, please ignore my companion. We did not come here to fight."
Guto says, "You collaborate with our bitter enemy. They invade our lands, and kill our folk!"
White Hand Envoy says, "This is why we have come to treat with you. This invasion had nothing to do with the White Hand."
Murig says, "Humph! The Stag-clan is grown too weak to fight with us, Half-orc. You waste your breath."
White Hand Envoy says, "The Dragons ignored our peaceful plan and devised their own violent invasion...."
Guto says, "Wh-- what is the meaning of this?"
White Hand Envoy says, "Consider it an act of good will towards the Stag-clan. An apology for a...misunderstanding."
White Hand Envoy says, "The Dragon-clan violated our trust. We never intended an attack upon Trum Dreng."
White Hand Envoy says, "But the old enmity between that clan and yours was evidently too strong for this one's narrow mind."
White Hand Envoy says, "Our true purpose here was a mission of friendship! Isengard offers its White Hand to you."
White Hand Envoy says, "Saruman seeks war with the Horse-lords who stole your lands!"
White Hand Envoy says, "If you join us, the clans of Dunland shall unite, with the strength of Isengard at their backs!"
Guto says, "...Revenge. Revenge against the Horse-men."
Guto says, "...And the clans of Dunland united as one?"
Guto says, "My people have longed for this for many generations...."
Guto says, "You must bring this message to Lhan Tarren."
Guto says, "My grandfather is chief, and he must hear this offer."
White Hand Envoy says, "I accept your generous invitation, Guto. I look forward to speaking with your elder."

Objective 3

You should speak with Guto.

The Elder is in Lhan Tarren.

You should notify Elder Riagán that Guto is arriving soon with the half-orc guest from Isengard.

Elder Riagán: 'Ah, you have returned! Elain was just telling me of your many victories in our lands.'
The Elder listens with concern as you tell him quickly of what transpired between Guto and the half-orc emissary of Isengard.
'You do not trust this man, <name>. You have had dealings with this White Hand before now, have you? And this emissary comes here to treat with me...how interesting.'
Elain says, "What do you make of this, Elder?"
Elder Riagán says, "Nothing yet, my dear. I would like to hear why Guto brings this White Hand fellow to Lhan Tarren."
The Elder notes your mistrust of the soldiers of Isengard

Objective 4

  • Make sure that the servant of Isengard keeps to his peaceful intentions

Guto and the servant of Isengard are just behind you.

You should observe the meeting with the Elder and make sure that nothing goes awry.

Guto says, "This way, honoured guest."
Guto says, "Grandfather, this man of Isengard brings us great news!"
Elder Riagán says, "I do not see a man -- only an Orc. But you have my ear, duvodiad."
White Hand Envoy says, "I come with a message of peace from Saruman of Isengard, the good neighbour of Dunland."
White Hand Envoy says, "As I told Guto, the attacks on Trum Dreng by the Dragon-clan were a terrible misunderstanding...."
White Hand Envoy says, "...But I have seen to it that the Dragon-clan will trouble you no more."
Guto says, "He speaks true, grandfather!"
Guto says, "He slew the Dragon-clan chieftain for his crime of disobedience, right before my eyes!"
Elder Riagán says, "I see."
Elder Riagán says, "What then is your offer, just duvodiad?"
White Hand Envoy says, "That the Stag-clan should join forces with the White Hand..."
White Hand Envoy says, "...And under Saruman's banner, the peoples of Dunland will be united."
White Hand Envoy says, "And together, we shall march against your foes of old: the Horse-lords!"
Elain says, "But...why would Isengard wish to wage war against Rohan?"
Elder Riagán says, "Yes, Elain. Why indeed?"
White Hand Envoy says, "To help you win back your lands, of course. Do you not long to reclaim your rightful home?"
Elder Riagán says, "Ha! Yes, I am sure Saruman wants war to help his dear neighbours, the poor, misplaced Men of Dunland."
Elder Riagán says, "Saruman is so kind and good...why did we never see it before?"
White Hand Envoy says, "...If mockery is all I can expect from the Stag-clan, I will trouble you no more."
Elder Riagán says, "Good luck with your generous war, well-spoken stranger."
Guto says, "You are a fool, grandfather!"
Elain says, "Hush, Guto! The Elder was wise to turn that wicked man away!"
Guto says, "Our clan will never be great again! You have squandered this opportunity!"
Elain says, "Guto! Wait!"
Guto has stormed off, and he and the Elder are at odds...but the Elder has seen the threat behind the words of Saruman
Elder Riagán says, "Oh, Guto. When will you learn?"

Objective 5

  • Talk to Elder Riagán

The Elder looks like he wishes to speak with you.

You should talk to Elder Riagán.

Elder Riagán: '<name>, I am troubled. I understand Guto's vision...to see the Stag-clan glorious and strong once again, living in our lands of old, but I will not compromise the integrity of my people for a dream that cannot be.
'That meeting with the servant of Isengard was disconcerting; I did not like the look of that man. I may have been lulled by his words, had you not expressed your immediate distrust of Isengard.
'I thank you for keeping me alert during that strange discourse.'
  • Talk to Elder Riagán
Elder Riagán: 'These are troubling times indeed...'
